Chapter 6

1011 Words
Felicity felt her mate's eyes on her as she moved on the dance floor. With Kevin's help, she was making a show of her dancing technics. Kevin's hand on her thigh, as he held her while she leaned back, was making her hot and bothered. Her dance partner was not only skilled but sexy as hell too. How could her body not react to such a fine specimen? She hoped that despite the crowd that had gathered around them, awed by the performance, nobody would smell her arousal. Over the music and the crowd's cheering, she managed to hear a glass break. She turned her face around just in time to see Lynn fret over Eric's wound. From the looks of it, he couldn't contain his anger and had broken the glass. 'Serves you well,' Felicity giggled inwardly. As she spun around one last time and dropped to the ground, her hand holding Kevin's leg, everyone clapped their hands. She was glad she had asked the improvised DJ to put a Latino song that would be fitting to a tango. "Girl, you are good," was Samantha's comment as Felicity rose to her feet with Kevin's help. "Thank you," was her confident smile-accompanied reply. "I was trained well." She finished while looking sideways at Kevin. Kevin had been the one to teach her how to tango. She was thankful he had taken an interest in her and had initiated her to the sexy Latino dance. She had never expected she would use it to impress and make her mate jealous at the same time, but damn was it useful in the end. "I'll grab you a drink," Kevin told her before he made a beeline to the kitchen where there were boxes of beer waiting to be drunk. "He's so sweet," Samantha let out on a dreamy sigh, "If my mate is anything like him, he'll be the death of me." "He's not my mate," Felicity informed her matter-of-factly. "My true mate has rejected me." To say Samantha was stunned would be the understatement of the year. "What is he, crazy?" She all but shrieked. "You tell me," Felicity shrugged nonchalantly, making sure not to make eye contact with her mate. She didn't want to give him her attention when he didn't deserve it. Felicity and Kevin enjoyed themselves at the party and soon enough it was 2 am. "Time to head home," Felicity whispered in Kevin's ear, knowing he'd hear her despite the loud music. "Your wish is my command," he flashed her a bright smile and she felt herself melt a little inside. Just because she didn't get the mate she had hoped for, that didn't mean she couldn't be happy with an arranged mating. The only downside of the deal would be her inability to make babies since vampires could only procreate with their true mates, contrarily to werewolves. "Hey wait," someone called out from behind them as they stepped out of the house. Felicity wasn't surprised to see Eric standing there, looking every bit the confident alpha he was. "What is it?" She asked in a bored tone while narrowing her eyes on him. "Something the matter?" Kevin asked in what could only be described as a sarcastic tone. "Can we talk alone?" Eric blatantly ignored his rival in favor of looking at his mate. Felicity thought about it for a moment and then nodded in Kevin's way in silent consent. The hundred year old vampire left in the direction of the car, whistling absentmindedly. "What do you want?" Felicity demanded in a haughty tone, crossing her arms on her chest. "What did you think you were doing bringing him to a werewolves' party?" Was it just her or did he just sound annoyed? Good, that meant she got to him. "He was my plus one," she shrugged uncaringly as she dropped her arms to her sides. "What is it to you?" "I don't like the idea of you being with him," the alpha admitted in a meek voice. "Last time I checked you rejected me to be with Lynn," Felicity countered right back, not missing a beat. "Having second thoughts?" "No, Lynn is the one for me... I think," he let out the last word in a whisper. 'Speak of the devil and he shall show up,' Felicity mused as she saw Lynn exit the house, seemingly looking for her boyfriend. "Whatever," Felicity let out in a cold voice before turning on her heels, just in time to hear her rival ask her mate what he was doing, and have him answer nothing. ******************** On the ride back home, as the brisk wind hit Felicity's face, she told Kevin how much she had enjoyed the evening in his company. "I, too, enjoyed it," was his simple reply as he drove through the empty roads. They then fell into a comfortable silence until they reached Felicity's building. Kevin got out of the car and flashed to the passenger's side in order to open the door for Felicity before she could open it herself. "Thank you," she told him with a smile. "You're welcome," was his immediate reply. "No, seriously, thank you, for everything." She told him as tears started to gather in her eyes. It wasn't like her to show emotion in public but her only witness was Kevin so she could allow herself that moment of weakness. "Seriously, you're welcome," her friend retorted, a smile breaking through his features. "Don't cry over him. He's not worth it." "You're right. I know you are, but it hurts," she let out before she choked on a sob, "it hurts so freaking much." Kevin raised his hands to softly wipe his date's tears. "You don't have to explain. I know." He then threw his arms around her and hugged her until her sobs subsided. "Thank you. I needed that hug," she told him when she disentangled herself from him. "Stop thanking me," he told her gallantly. "Good night." "Good night," she replied as she opened the door of her building.
