Chapter 5

It's been a week already, but there's no sign of Mr. Montavo visitng the club. Since it's our off today. I'm planning to visit my mom, later afternoon. Honestly, I try to forget about what Hugo had told me. But Anj keeps on bugging me about him. “Ugh, Anj! Ask me later.” “Just this one, Cassie. What if Alexander Montavo will be in the club by Saturday?” “Hahaha! You’re imagining a lot, Miss Protius. Stop reading a lot of books.” Ever since I told her what Hugo had told me, she became an instant fan. “Oh, come on, Cassie. Just answer me. What if he--“ “He won’t do that. He’s a billionaire, Anj. He has a lot of women from his league and women like us are way out of his league, so I doubt if he would still remember a woman like me. I’m just a nobody. So whatever questions you have, just omit them!” Anj wanted to say something again, but was interrupted when the doorbell buzzed. “Are you expecting someone?” She asks. “No?? My brothers are in the hospital too. Maybe that’s yours. Just check it and I’ll take my nap now." “Okay.” I lay back on the bed and put my earpods on. But a few moments later, Anj disturbs me again. She also removes my earbuds. “What the heck, Anj! Can’t you let me take a nap??” Groaning out my frustration “I’m sorry, Cassie. But, I need you to get up right now.” “Why?” I stare at her perplexed look. “Uhm, you have a visitor. And you need to get up now. Hurry.” I do as she says. “Visitor? Who? My brother?” Not waiting for her response as I walk out of the room. I tend to become an i***t sometimes. Not even thinking what I am wearing when I decide to go out. “Oh, my god!” I blurted out loud. Then Anj runs to my side. “Cassie, wait! Change your clothes first.” “It’s too late for that now.” I whisper back at her. We both are staring at the man in front of us, who’s also staring at us or, more likely, staring at me from head to toe, a bit of his mouth shapes in O. Oh, s**t! I quickly run back to the room and get changed into another clothes. I hear Anj talking to Alexander Montavo. What is he doing here??? How did he know my address??? Why is he here??? Only three questions have kept repeating in my mind as I rush myself from changing clothes. After making sure I look more presentable, I apprehensively walk out of the room. Anj gives him a glass of juice. But when she sees me, she immediately excuses herself. “I leave the two of you alone so you can talk. I’ll be just in the room, Cassie.” “Okay.” Still waiting for Anj to get inside before I turn around and face him. “What brought you here, Mr. Montavo?” “Have a sit first.” “This is my house, and it’s up to me if I sit or not.” The corner of his lips twitches, but he stands up so I step back. “Stay there.” “Fine.” But his intense look is piercing inside me. He is towering over me. He is tall compared to my 5’4” height. “Why are you here, Mr. Montavo?” “You didn’t come back, moya milaya. I was told you’d gone home.” “The answer was already coming from you. Then why do you come here?” “I want to know you more, moya milaya.” “What?” My heart can't stop from beating faster. Why does a billionaire want to know more about me? “There something in you I find interesting. I want to find that out.” He just simply says. That is so easy for him to say, but I don’t find it sensible. “Well, there’s nothing interesting about me, sir. And maybe you have gotten to a wrong address. I am not the one you’re looking for as I am not an interesting person.” In just quick steps, his face is now two inches away from mine. Oh, crap! His sudden movement, stuns me. All my nerves and muscles are acting so weird. My heart is pounding so hard, too. “How about I kiss these seductive lips again? Hmmm?” His eyes explore at my entire face and ends at my lips. “How about I kick your ass again? Hmmn?” I retort back. That’s right, Cassidy. Good job, girl! I’m so proud of myself. His smirk grows wider and turns into laugh. “Feisty! I like that.” Without further ado, he leans in and connects our lips. Omygaad! Noooo! Still my mouth left ajar as disbelief and blush are all over in my face. “I won’t get tired of kissing these sweet lips of yours until you beg me to stop, moya milaya. But as much as I want to do that right now, I need to talk to you about something else. But I can only start telling you if we sit. Unless you still want me to kiss you-“ “Oh, God!” I say as I beetle off to the sofa. My knees are soon to betray me as they have gotten weak by his kiss, his damn addicting kiss. Crap! What was I thinking again?! Hearing him chuckle adds my annoyance to myself and to him. Perv! Soon he sits back to where he sat earlier, in front of me. “Moya Milaya-“ “It’s Cassidy Lopez to you, Mr. Montavo. My legally registered name, so call me on my legal name, not on any other name.” “Alright, Cassidy Lopez, I want to make a deal with you---“ But Anj dashes out of the room and worriedly calls my attention. “Excuse, guys. Uhm, Cassie, it’s about your mom!” “My mom? Why? What happened?” “Charles just called on your phone, so I answered. And they need you there. Asap!” Oh, God! Mom! Worries are all over my face. “Uhm, Mr. Montavo, you need to leave now.” I then instantly left them as I went back to the room and took my bag. “I gotta go. Anj” “Sure. But do you want me to go with you?” “No. It’s okay, Anj. I can manage. Just say hi for me to uncle and aunt.” Anj plans to visit her family as well and I don’t want to stop her from going. “I’ll drive you to the hospital.” Says Alexander. He hasn’t gone out of the house yet. Probably Anj told him where I am going to. “No. Thanks.” Dashing out of the house and Alexander is still following me. Maybe he’s just leaving as well. Not minding him while he’s going to his car, as I am waiting for a taxi. Ugh, there’s no taxi here at this hour. Immediately, I take my phone in my bag and book a grab. Alexander’s car stops in front of me while I am typing. “Hop in, Miss Lopez. I’ll take you to the hospital.” “No, thank you.” “I insist. Time is running and I know it’s important for you to be there asap.” He’s right... Without giving him a response, I walk to the passenger side at the back. “Sit beside me, Miss Lopez.” “Oh, Okay.” Then I scuttle to the front door and hop in. “Thank you.” “You’re welcome. Now, buckle up.” Feeling ashame of what I did back in the house. I was rude with him. But he made me to do it. My conscience justifies my action. In the hospital... “If we keep prolonging the surgery, a higher chance that your mother’s condition will get worse, Ms. Lopez. And it will be too late for her to survive.” says doctor Alvin. His words were not helping my perturbed state of mind. And the cold temperature of his office adds the uneasiness I am feeling. While I am sitting in front of him, my hands are getting colder. My first time here in his office, my whole body shivered because of the high cold temperature his AC had set on. I even got cold because of that. I wonder if he is a vampire. But vampires don’t exist. Yet until now, I’m not sure if he knows how cold his office is. He wasn’t bothered about it though. “We need to reschedule the operation the soonest possible, Ms. Lopez. We can’t wait another week or two.” Doctor Alvin explained everything, including the procedure and the costs of the surgery but of course he just gave me a ballpark figure. He also told me the survival rate and the survival time of a patient with a Pancreatic Cancer. How will I get that huge amount in a matter of 24 hours?? My savings, my brothers funds, and even I borrow Anj’s money, I still need more. I know the operation and the whole treatment is costly, but I’m willing to work my whole life just to add another life to my mom. Not realizing, my tears are already running down my face. “Cassie...” Brix sits beside me. Immediately, I wipe my tears, concealing the remaining tears that are trying to come out again. “Hi. How do you find me here? I thought you’re with mom.” Earlier, I excused myself and went out of my mom’s hospital room. I can’t stand stronger in front of them after what the doctor told us. And I have to find huge amount of money to start the operation. Putting an act in front of him as I smile. I don’t want him to worry. Let it be me to carry the burden. “It’s okay to cry, Cass. You don’t need to hide. We’re your family.” “I’m okay. I’m not crying, Brix. There’s just something in my eyes. But I’m okay.” I pat his shoulder to console him as well. His face shows sadness. “Uhm, can you go back to mom and Charles? I have to ask my friend to lend us some money so we can start the operation for mom.” “Okay. I will have to talk to the billing department as well. In case they’ll give us discount.” “Okay. I’ll call you later.” Mom has her health insurance but she already consumed most of her benefits. I leave him with a smile plasters on my face. But as soon as I get out of the hospital, the heavy feeling is at my back again. Taking heavy steps while thinking of the people I can borrow. Where can I borrow? My mind is in a daze while I am walking away, but I don’t know where to go. My mind has been clouded by all my worries for my mom. Oh, God. Help me. Suddenly, someone pulls me to the side. “Are you going to kill yourself??!” A very scary Alexander appears in front of me. What? I gasp when I realize I am on the highway. I almost get hit by cars. Oh my god! “Are you okay?” His voice is different. Was he worried about me? “Yeah. Thanks.” Then I walk away from him. He stops me again. His hand is holding my arm. “Get in the car.” He must have pulled over. Seeing his car parks at the side of the road. But why he is still here? “I’m busy, Mr. Montavo. If there’s anything you need to say, not now. I don’t have much time.” “Get inside the car.” I can feel the hair on my nape stand by his voice. Goosebumps. He gave me that kind of voice before. When I got lost in his eyes. Oh, crap! Stop thinking about it, Cassidy. Strange, but I don't resist when he leads me to his car. A few moments later, the way he's going to is far from where I was going. “Wait! Where are you taking me?” “Somewhere we can talk properly.” “No! I told you, I have no time for this right now. Just stop the car.” Unbeknownst to Cassidy, Alexander didn’t leave when he drove her to the hospital. He followed her. Until he overheard the conversation between her and the doctor. Flashback... “If we keep prolonging the surgery, a higher chance that your mother’s condition will get worse, Ms. Lopez.” “Doc, can you give me twenty four hours? The money we have isn’t enough, yet. But just give me twenty four hours.” “We can perform the surgery in six hours. Don’t worry about the costs, yet.” Alexander immediately leaves when he hears it and as he walks aways, he calls his secretary. “Almira, contact the owner of this hospital.” He gives his secretary the hospital name and tells her to ask the best surgeons to operate for Cassidy’s mom. “Yes sir.” He heads straight to the reception area and asks for the owner. But he’s not available so he goes back but he notices Cassidy hurriedly goes to another corner and cries. His jaw clenches while watching her cry. He sees Brix walking closer to Cassidy. He has seen everything. But he doesn’t hear them. He still follows her even when she walks to the exit door and when she almost gets hit by a car.
