Chapter 7

The operation took eight hours.. Although, my mom is still unconscious. But we’re so thrilled that the operation was successful. The feeling of having thorn stuck in your heart as you're anxiously waiting for the result has finally taken out. Currently, my brothers are moving my mother’s stuffs into a private room. It’s per Alexander’s instruction. Everything has changed so quick. From the room, to the staffs who will take care of my mother while recovering from the operation. He changes them all, and I have heard from the nurse who walked in a while ago that Alexander is indeed an influential man, and that I was so lucky to have a boyfriend like him. It surprised me how she got that information. Anyway, I haven’t seen him since this afternoon. That billionaire must be really so busy adding more to his wealth. While sitting on the chair beside my mom, I hear my phone dings inside my bag and, as I check, it’s a text from Anj. “Hey, how’s aunt Millie’s operation? Just got out of StarVIP, but I am on my way there.” Not responding to her text, instead I dial her number and she quickly answers. “Hey!” “Hey, Anj. Sorry, I forgot to call you earlier.” “No, it’s okay. So how’s the operation?” “She’s out of danger now, Anj. The operation was successful.” “Oh, thank God!” says Anj. Though I didn’t see her but I know she’s smiling right now. “Yeah. I don’t know what to do if something happens to her during the operation.” “Yeah. Anyway, how did you get the money for the operation?” Oh, crap! I haven’t told her about Alexander and the deal yet. “It’s a long story. We’ll just talk about it later. Okay?” “Alright. I’ll be there soon. See you.” “Okay.” It’s already past two in the morning and I hear the door opens again. Not bothering to check who comes in since it could be my brothers or some nurses. Leaning on the bed while holding my mom’s hand as I feel sleepy. But the steps coming closer intrigues me. “Cassidy.” Abruptly, I look back, and it’s him! Suddenly, I feel conscious about what I look. Slowly, I stand up and approach him. “Mr. Montavo.” “It’s Alexander. Call me Alexander from now on, Cassidy.” He says as he loosens his tie. “Yeah. Right. Alexander. Uhm, what brings you here?” He looks at me suspiciously. “You don’t forget the deal. Do you?” “No. Of course not. It’s just that I am not expecting you to come here at this time. You could have just called or-“ “I want to see you.” His words stop me from blabbering. “Oh! Well! Yeah! Sure! Seeing me seems making you energize..” His laugh makes me want to dig my grave deeper that I don’t want to come out from there. And I swear my face gets hotter. 'Gosh! Why do I look so foolish in front of him.' “You bet.” He says afterwards. “Wait, what?” But then he laughs again. “Don’t laugh.” I manage to say. Following him to the sofa but he stops and turns back so I bump into his chest. 'Crap! Don’t you have eyes, Cassidy?' “Oops, Sorry.” Apologizing to him while keeping my distance. “Come here, moya milaya.” Laying his hands in front of me to reach it. ‘No, don’t take his hand.’ But my rebel half willingly reaches his and lets myself pulls by him. His perfume is so enticing. So is he! ‘God! Why am I like this?' Sitting on the semi-long couch beside him doesn’t do good with my senses. All go in revolt. “Relax...” says Alexander. “Huh?” “You look so tense. I will not eat you. Well, unless you would be giving me the privilege to do so.” He smirks. “What?” Dub Dub Dub! Well, that’s the sound of my heart right now. So loud! “Relax, moya milaya.” He says as he moves his head closer to my face with his gaze pierces through my being. “Do you think I can relax with you being so close like this?” He chuckles and I even find it cute. ‘Damn it!’ ‘I need a shower! Besides, I think I’m stinky right now. Am I not?’ It was only when he moves a little farther. Well, not really far that I feel relief. “How are you holding up?” he asks a few moments later. ‘Are you asking me about what just happened or about the operation?’ I mentally ask. ‘Of course the operation!’ ‘Why are you becoming an i***t these days, Cassidy? “Now that I got to see my mom again, I feel relieved. The operation was so scary. I have thought of worst. But she is far from danger now and the operation was successful. So- Uhm, thank you. If it wasn’t your help, my mother would have been in great pain.” “Well, I am not the doctor who operated her.” “But you were the one who assigned those best doctors to operate her. Thank you so much, Alexander. I know there’s a deal, but if you haven’t offered that to me. I don’t know where I can find that large amount to proceed with the operation. Her cancer could have gotten worse.” Our conversation has interrupted when my two brothers walk in. Charles immediately approaches Alexander as he sits beside him on his right as I am sitting on his left side. Letting them talk while I go back to mom’ side. “What did you buy?” I ask Brix. He went out to buy food for us. “Some Chinese food.” “Okay.” “Hey, Alexander. Eat.” Brix hands him the food. But I’m not sure if he would eat it. Brix and Charles don’t know about Alexander’s wealth. They have thought him as a businessman but they do not know that he is a billionaire.” And offering him this kind of food could be a bad idea. “Uhm, Brix. I think he isn’t hungry yet. You just go ahead and eat.” “No. I’m hungry. I haven’t eaten since this afternoon. And I think this is good.” says Alexander. His words surprise me. I am pretty sure he has a lot of money to buy the food he wants. Charles and Brix are eating their food, as Alexander does too. After an hour, Alexander pulls me outside the room to talk. “I have already arranged everything for your mom. She will be staying here for a week to monitor her. But I already have nurses to take care of her in shifting schedule. Then, once everything is okay, she will be transferred to my townhouse. So she can recuperate faster. She needs fresh air to breathe. The place there can help her gain more strength. Don’t worry about the expense and she will be taken cared of by the private nurses I hired, so don-“ “Ho- hold up! What are you saying? Are you going to transfer her to where?” “I have a townhouse that I didn’t use. The place is good for your mother to recuperate, Cassidy.” “But that’s too much! You have done so much for my mom already. We can just stay in our house-“ “That’s part of the deal, Cassidy. I told you I will help your mom with anything she needs. But don’t worry. The townhouse is not part of the deal. I am letting your family to use it. It’s my decision. I want her to recover, too. I meant it.” “But this is--“ “No buts. I will talk to your brothers about this. It’s up to them if they will stay there as well or not, but they are all welcome to use the place. I will transfer some money to your brothers-“ “No!” I strongly disagreed. “Why?” He’s asking me with his brows furrow. “Look. They know you as my boyfriend. They don’t know who you really are. They know nothing about you. And if you do that, they will be suspicious.” “Fine.” “Uhm, can we talk more about this somewhere private? My brothers would hear us here.” “Alright. Let me talk to your brothers first, then we’ll leave.” “Okay.” We walk inside the room. Then let him talk to my brothers as I check my phone. They all go out. My mom won’t wake anytime sooner. The doctor told us she will be waking up either afternoon or night. And it’s just four o’clock. Then the door opens. “Hey...” “Anj!” “How’s aunt?” We both look at mom who’s still unconscious. “The operation was successful, and the doctor said she will wake up either later afternoon or evening.” “And as long as the cancer has gone, we should consider this as the best gift.” “Yeah.” “Oh, mom actually called me about aunt. I told her she has nothing to worry since aunt Millie is a fighter.” We continue talking about mom’s cancer and the operation. “By the way, where did you get the money for the operation?” “Oh! Uhm, it’s just so sudden. Actually, someone you know helped me.” “Someone I know?? Who??” Gosh! ‘How do I explain this to her that she won’t freak out?’ “Uhm, it’s not really someone you know, but it somehow you know. Ugh! How should I explain this.” “Now I’m more curious. So, Cassidy? Who?” “It’s Alexander Montavo-“ The confusion on her face turns into surprise as my words sync in. “Oh, my! Alexander Montavo?! The one in the club? The billio---“ “Shush, Anj. Shhhh!” Immediately, I stop her from getting hysterical. She has the tendency to overreact. “Yes, Anj. The one and only. But the problem is my brothers don’t know he is a billionaire. So please... keep it a secret from them, too. Please??” “Okay! Okay! Fine. But how? Did you sell your body?? Oh no no no! That’s not the Cassidy I know.” “Anjeline Noelle Protius! In the name of mercy, can you stop overthinking? Of course, I didn’t!” I can’t help but to smile when seeing the relief on her face when I told her that. “Then how did you get the money from him? Did you sell drugs??” Oh, Christ! “Anjeline Noelle Protius. I swear! If you keep saying nonsense, I will stuff this tissue inside your mouth!” “Alright! I’m sorry. Just tell me already!” “He offered the money I needed---“ “See? I knew it? He probably offered you to—-“ She stops when I give her a death glare while about to stuff the tissue into her mouth. “Nothing... He just offered to help ” “What? No. That's impossible..” Then the door sprang open. My brothers and Alexander come inside. “He’s here??” Anj whispers. “Oh, yeah. I am about to tell you that.” “Let’s go?.” says Alexander. “Oh, okay. Just a sec!” I turn to Anj. “We’ll talk once I get home. I have to go now.” “Wait! Where are you going?” “I don’t know. I’ll text or call you.” “Okay.” After talking with my brothers, reminding them to call me once mom wakes up, I follow Alexander out of the room. “Where are we going?” “Somewhere private. Like you said. Besides, we also need to discuss the contract to complete everything.” “Oh, okay.” A car is pulled over at the exit door, where we stand and a valet hand the key to Alexander. Oh, goodness! This is so comfortable. Alexander is using a different car. This is not the car he used before. “Do you like music?” he asks as he drives off. “Sure.” “Do you have preferred music to listen to?” “No, I don’t.” “Okay.” As music plays on, I lean into my seat. Then, a few moments later... “Uhm, is it okay if we’ll discuss this in the--“ I’m not sure if I literally talk to him or I am just dreaming that I am talking. I’m so sleepy... Until everything goes black.
