Defiance

...........Vera Red pov.......... I have hated the idea of mates since I saw my Dad raising his hand on my mom. And my mom is doing nothing in return. The way he placed his claim on her, not caring if she was ready or not. She thought she was his to do whatever he wished without anyone questioning him. And in so many years, my belief has only strengthened. Alphas are worse, if not better. And this reason is enough to despise him. At least get to know mate first. My wolf spoke, and I looked up at the man who was my supposed mate. The very Alpha of the pack wolves I slaughtered yesterday. His gray eyes were cold and emotionless. Face sculpted beautifully by the moon goddess. His black hair was jelled to perfection, and a casual shirt adored his muscular front. I feel a sudden warmness surge inside me and clench my fist. The s**t has started. The s**t is what everyone calls the 'mate bond.' "Hello, mate" His voice made shivers run down my spine. The heaviness in it settled directly on my heart. He stepped closer, and his cologne made me hold my breath. It will mess with my senses more; I can't afford it. Rosie's grip on my shirt tightens, and I realise our situation. He was here to get this land; I will not let him have it. Mate or not. "Leave us, Rosie." I say, moving my head to the side and ordering her. She was reluctant, her eyes shifting between the Alpha and me. "But-" "Leave" I said in my cold voice, leaving no end to negotiations. She gulps, and her grip on my jacket loosens. Nodding, she leaves us alone. Assured that we were alone, I kicked the door to close it and placed my hands in the pockets of my leather jacket. Leaning my back against the wall, I stare back at him. To only find them already staring at me. His eyes took me in from top to bottom. I dress like this only; the colour black is my favourite. Black jeans, a black shirt and a black leather jacket on top of it. My combat boots are an addition to it. His stare stays a little longer on my deep neck, and his eyes darken. Was it lust or anger? I don't know. The latter was better, anyway. Before I could speak, he was already coming towards me. His jaw hardens as he holds my stare. "Name and pack?" He asks, and I scoff. Does he think he will ask and I will answer? He wants this territory, I don't. He has nothing to offer me. And I in no way owe him any answers. Proceeding towards the seat of the Alpha in the office. I place my feet on the table and look at him in boredom. "My name is not of your concern. My pack is the one you stand on right now, and as for the deal, you are here to offer?" I say, straightening my back and staring at him. "I am afraid I don't agree with that." His jaw clenches further, if possible. His aura turned deadlier. He doesn't say anything, not even argue with me. His silence made an uneasiness settle in me. Was he not offended? Alpha's don't take disrespect lightly, so why was he so silent? "There is the door. You should leave Alpha Logan. I have some important work to do." With this, I pull out some papers and start reading them. I tried to ignore him when my wolf screamed at me to look at him and admire her mate. He stays. A few minutes pass in silence. But nothing. However, that burning stare remained. He keeps staring at me keenly while I ignore him. Making that burning rise in me again. His stare was bothering me. It even infuriates me. Can this man f**k*** stop staring! It's been 10 minutes now! "Staring is rude, Alpha Logan. And I think our business is done here." I said, raising an eyebrow at him. My pen stops signing as I converse with him. "It's not when I stare at what belongs to me." His words made something churn in my stomach, and I felt a sudden warmness between my legs. Fuc*! What is this feeling? "And as far as my business is concerned with you?" He steps closer, approaching me. I didn't lower my legs, not letting him think I was bothered by his closeness. His eyes shifted towards my feet on the table to return to my face. A smirk morphs on his lips as he steps closer to stop beside my seat. Before I could ask him to stop, he suddenly held my ankles in his firm grip and pinned them down. Restricting my movement. I move my hands to pray them off when the revolving seat loses its balance, and I fall back on the headrest. He took this as an opportunity, and next, I knew, he pinned my hands above my head with his other hand. Shit man! He is damm strong. I wriggle only to make the seat move. He looks at me coldly, the smirk no longer lingering on his lips. "My business would not be done with you anytime soon, mate, if not forever." My anger was surging as I stared at him with fury. But he didn't look much bothered. "What do you mean, you bastard?" I ask, and he leans closer to whisper in my ear. That tingling sensation returns as his breath hits my neck. "We both know what I mean, mate. The butterflies in your stomach and the uneasiness between your legs are just the beginning." I freeze as the tingles explode inside me again this time. I close my eyes and breathe heavily. This is bad! What the hell is happening? And then, as I was struggling to cope with these new feelings, I felt something soft touch my cheek, and I opened my eyes in shock. Did he...did he kiss me? His smiling face enters my view as he leaves my wrists and legs. Stepping back from me, making it feel like a bucket of water is thrown on my burning body. I stare at his broad back in shock, unable to believe what happened when he pulled a seat and got seated. "Coming to business, mate. It's fine if you disagree. But-" He sighs before continuing. "I'd like to let you know beforehand. You will be challenged. Not just once or twice but a hundred times at least, and no way in hell will the Alphas be light on you just because you are a woman.' "They will do whatever it takes to get this land." I straightened up, coming out of the earlier faze. Gulping the saliva caught in my throat, I stare at him. "I am aware of them, Alpha. I knew what I was getting into before I took this title." He nodded, getting up. "As it seems, you know everything already. I will not explain any further. Congratulations on being the new Alpha, and my apologies for the earlier attack." Was he leaving? So easily? I thought he would try to convince me or even force me into agreeing to this. Before he turned around to leave, he looked back at me one last time. "And if you need help, You know where to find me. The doors to my territory are not open to outsiders, but for you?" "They are always wide open. Remember it." Was he concerned? Help? I will die before I ask him for help. I am fully capable of taking care of everything, I don't need him. "And Vera. Keep your bedroom doors open from now on. I will be visiting." How does he know my name? My eyes drifted to the sheet of paper in his hands that had my signature, and I cursed in my mind. He smirks in victory. What the hell! Is this man crazy? And what does he mean by keeping my doors open? Before I could open my mouth to retort, he was already gone. Leaving me in a state of shock. Who the hell is this man? And more importantly What is he doing to me?
