"What are you talking about? My parents never say anything that has anything to do with what you're saying right now." I dropped my utensil, giving all of my attention to him. We're here in the restaurant early in the morning to discuss the urgent matter he wants to talk about.
He looks dead serious, and I am so confused. We're talking about the ostensibly fixed marriage he mentioned six months ago.
I'm starting to wonder if he's merely making up some story to get away from me because I never heard my parents talk about me and Wyatt getting married. Zenos and Crescent are the centers of attention because they've been engaged for four years and my parents have been asking why they haven't married yet.
But if he's fabricating this... What is it for? We haven't spoken in a long time since we've been trying to avoid it, so what's up with our parents' unexpected setup?
"So you're suggesting that we should commit ourselves to some kind of relationship? Like I'll have a boyfriend and you'll have a girlfriend as well?" he's being so ridiculous.
His expression didn't change as he looks at me. "Yes,"
I chortled sarcastically, "And do you think they'll believe that?"
"Every Homer has the power to manipulate things; it would be humiliating if you weren't able to do it," he said solemnly as if he was demeaning my profundity.
So he wants to play a game, huh? I stare back at him without emotion.
Why did he have to call me last night, watch me fall asleep, and then act this way the next morning? Is he messing around with me?
I woke up a while ago with my dead battery so I assumed the phone ended because of that or maybe... he ended it after I fell asleep. I licked my lips to brush off my hurt ego.
I despise being played; I am a Homer, so why did I allow this to actually happen?
What a stupid woman you are, Oceanna.
"So they're planning to inform us about the engagement after this event, so I had to tell them I'm dating someone well-known?" I summarized everything he said a while ago. It makes me laugh uncontrollably just thinking about it, but why not? If that's what it takes, I'll play in a fire.
We don't want to marry each other. I'm still working on standing on my own and gaining independence so that I can pursue my ambition. All of this is such a source of distraction for me, it will be a hurdle.
"Do you know somebody who could be useful but also trustworthy in this act you're putting on?" I raised my eyebrow while waiting for him to respond. I fiddled with my glass and stared at him.
He tightened his jaws and sipped his wine, despite the fact that it was early in the morning. Weird.
"I spoke with Vlisse about it; she'll be my event partner later," he puts down his glass and wiped his lips with the cloth as he stare directly at me.
So he had this planned, huh. "I'm looking for a guy who you could recommend," I firmly gaze at him, flipping my hair in the back. If he thinks about it well enough, he'll come up with a guy who could act as my boyfriend.
"It seems that you prepared everything, so who do you recommend?" his gaze never left mine, as if he was trying to figure out what I was up to.
I'm aware that I'm an open book, but right now I'm showcasing my depravity. Perhaps he forgets that, despite my fragility, I was bred to be vicious and shrewd.
He licks his bottom lips, and my gaze was drawn to him; perhaps I am too attractive to him, and I have forgotten who I am. It just implies one thing: he isn't good to me and I should stay the hell away from him.
