The Talent of the Berserk

Dan wasn't worried before he began to test his new abilities. He had a double advantage in strength and speed over his clone. The swordsman also fought with a more valuable sword. They bought the Punisher sword at an auction. It was one of the cities of Grossroads' best offers. The sword was valuable for its ability to deliver a blow that ignored the opponent's defenses.

Even a normal strike without using swordsman skills dealt 163 damage. Dan was determined to finish the fight in four strikes. He wasn't really worried about his weakening. The young man realized that in this world he would have to linger to fully develop his basic techniques.

An unclear large shadow moved against the wall and the young man immediately applied the Slowing to gain a full advantage over his opponent. He wanted to show the princess the full power of a swordsman armed with a great sword.

The spider thought nothing of the threat and immediately prepared to meet his foe. Its two front paws stretched out toward the man. Its paws had sharpened strong claws that could pierce even the metal of heavy armor. In doing so, the spider could cause poisoning and complicate the fight for an inexperienced warrior.

Dan struck the spider's right paw and applied the Cut of Kornelius.  All three of the vampire master's techniques required imperative development to perfection. The dark scarlet sword knocked away the thick paw and did good damage to the spider.

The swordsman parried the second paw's blow with a defensive move. He hadn't taken any damage yet, but the combination of the two blows was too convenient and Dan applied the vampirism skill. He doesn't need to regenerate his health, but he needs to apply important techniques in combat. The mechanism of skill development was still unclear. But by any logic to develop the skill should be applied in battle with monsters.

At that moment the big muzzle of the spider opened its mouth and spit a clump of cobwebs in the warrior's face. Dan crouched very quickly and the web flew over the warrior's head. The swordsman struck a new strike quickly and into the belly of the animal. He began to apply three of his skills that ignored the enemy's defenses. The young man hoped that three of these attacks would be enough to finish off the enemy. His field of vision took on a familiar appearance that he jokingly called the Berserk Vision. A red fog on all sides limited his field of vision. And now Dan watched everything as if in a new frame. The enemy's body also took on some shades of red. Dan checked carefully and was disappointed to learn that the enemy's body did not mark various vulnerable points. But all enemies were the same. All enemies had familiar vulnerabilities. Unfortunately, the spider's belly had no vulnerabilities and was covered by the usual defense. The spider ignored 70 points of damage. And that was very little for a level nineteen monster.

Dan quickly struck three times and didn't even pay attention to the two paws striking him from above. One claw pierced his shoulder and the young man felt a sharp pain. The venom began its work. The second claw struck the warrior's helmet, and for a moment the boy staggered and his blow was incomplete. The blade pierced through the spider's body, but the monster was still alive.

The spider lifted its huge body slightly and was now ready to attack with four paws. Dan threw his body up sharply and struck again, using the Rabies skill. He no longer cared about losing his defense. He was in a hurry to finish off his opponent.

The blade glowed brightly and the tip of the blade struck the spider's head. The animal even slammed its mouth shut and was flung away from the man. Dan quickly struck again and realized there was no need. He killed the monster. The spider fell in front of him and nearly crushed the warrior with its corpse.

"Ugh! Rude and harsh. There is no beauty or grace in it. But the power of your fighting style I do not deny. What? I saw a spider strike you. Does the venom burn? Will you also endure the pain and develop a resistance to the poison?" Elina teased the baron. He didn't make much of an impression. She knew this warrior had excellent fighting skills. She didn't like the swordsman's techniques.

Dan did not answer the girl because he was busy with an unusual sight. There was a message with strange information in front of his eyes.

[Talent received. Profession: Swordsman. Talent: Berserk.

During combat, warrior increases damage by 10% with every second. Attention! At a certain time, the warrior can no longer tell his allies and enemies apart! The start of the loss of clearness time depends on the warrior's Intelligence score: 1-second self-consciousness*1 point Intelligence.]

The young man immediately realized an important point. He was offered no choice! This talent was imposed on him forever! He didn't quite understand the second part of his new skill. Increased damage is great. But Dan didn't want to turn into a monster who starts attacking his friends.

"Tom, I need your help. I'll renew you. There's some new information. Something I don't like. But we got a special surprise from this place," the young man quickly applied the Phantom skill.

Parts of the clone's equipment fell to the cave floor with a crash and clang. It always looked a little funny. The new clone muttered a curse at his too-weird friend. They were once again embroiled in incomprehensible complications.

Tom quickly made his way to his belongings and began to equip his armor.

"What surprises? Tell me! Why are you hiding this from me? I didn't get any new special surprises. That's not fair," Elina immediately noted that the young man's face was very serious and worried. She was curious to know the new features of her ally.

"Very interesting. It's a good thing you're not an orc. With a talent like that, you don't need enemies if your ally is a stupid orc," the clone grinned. "The damage increase is clear. The other things are just as clear. I have an Intelligence of 63 points and that means that I have only a minute of combat time in an adequate status. In a minute I can pounce on my allies. It's an interesting and insidious thing to do. It's like the flames of a forest fire. If you burst into this berserk frenzy you won't stop until you've wiped out everyone around you."

"The question is how close the allies have to be. How long does the rabid berserk status last? How do we test that? I'm not afraid to kill you. We're used to dueling with each other.  But here she is risking getting into a bad situation next to us," Dan nodded toward the princess.

Tom frowned. These were the moments even he didn't like! Now there was an important discussion to be had. But no one wanted to share new facts with the princess. It was none of her business! The clone could see that Elina was beginning to get angry with them.

The clone was mistaken about the reason for the girl's bad mood. The princess jabbed her finger at him and hissed her displeasure.

"Don't take me for a fool. Our stupid baron has once again shown his inexperience and stupidity. You are as stupid as your master. But you have a slight advantage. Algrin told me that while your master was asleep you spent many hours in the library educating yourself. Dan immediately gave away the secret in a couple of sentences. Now he can amplify his damage. But becomes dangerous to allies. You two are disgusting conspirators. It's funny to watch," snorted the princess. Then Elina shook her head and noted the obvious facts. "Even a weakling like you is capable of destroying a monster in a few seconds of combat. You are not as abnormal as Dhroll. You are busy developing your magical arts and always taking care to develop your Intelligence. I'm a little envious that the Baron meets such interesting gifts from the gods."

The two young men were embarrassed. They had blabbed! This girl grew up in a palace and knew how to recognize all sorts of secrets. Dan frowned and picked up a piece of ore from the floor. He didn't want to talk to the insolent girl who called him a stupid man who didn't care about education. He cares about protecting his life! Fighting monsters is very important at this stage of existence. What's the point of sticking around the Grossroads library if you're going to leave it very soon? They're in a new place now. So? Hang around the library to get unnecessary knowledge about an unnecessary place? They can leave this world very soon. All they have to do is improve their martial arts skills.
