The first guy was tall and muscular with blonde wavy hair that was messily styled into a bun. He was busy joking and laughing with the group, looking as though he didn’t have a care in the world. The second was taller, maybe the tallest man I had ever seen, again muscular but with darker tones. His short jet black hair was also messily styled, exposing his chiseled jaw line and perfect cheek bones. As I looked up from his cheeks, it was then I noticed his emerald green eyes staring directly at me. His glare was intense, matching the serious look that had taken over him. If anyone else had looked at me like that, I would have begun running, but a little voice in my head told me everything was okay and to trust him. Trust him? How could I trust him? I don’t even know him.
A small but steady pull on my hand unknowingly brought me closer to the group. As we approached, the intoxicating scent grew stronger. Izzy was obviously ready to greet our host and hopefully gain his attention. I, however, was still unsure of what his friend's intense gaze meant and tried to pull away. Izzy quickly looked at me and mouthed “what’s wrong?”, I quickly shook my head, knowing she needed me and decided to simply avoid looking back into those emerald eyes.
Once we had reached the group, it suddenly went silent. I peaked up from the ground only to see they were all staring, looking at him wide-eyed. Before I could figure out what was happening, Sebastian broke the silence. “Hello Izzy, Aubrey, Serena, how are you all this evening? Welcome, you are all looking lovely. I believe you know all the guys here except this is Will” he said, pointing to the blonde guy with a big grin, who was now giving a friendly wave. “And this is Seth” he added, motioning to the guy with the emerald eyes that were still burning holes through me. I stood frozen to the spot and although the shock of a polite Sebastian was almost enough to silence me, it was the gaze of Seth that had truly overwhelmed me. The only thing keeping me still was the sweet, calming scent that seemed to be surrounding me. Before I could get myself together, Serena snaked her way in front of me, now blocking me from view. I heard a low growl behind her.... a growl. I shook my head, trying to bring myself back to reality. She stood tense as she quickly remarked “thanks, but we just wanted to say hey and now if you could just point us to the drinks?”. Sebastian hesitated before pointing confused to a nearby doorway “just in the kitchen”. Serena grabbed my hand and led both me and Izzy towards the kitchen.
Once in the kitchen, I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding in. Again, a small voice in my head was comforting me, telling me everything was okay and to trust him. I must have held that breath for too long. Serena looked at me with concern in her eyes “you okay? You look flushed”, I quickly replied, nodding, “I’m fine, just a little hot in here with all the people you know?”. What was I supposed to say, that absolutely gorgeous guy was staring at me and it took my breath away? Cliche to say the least.
Izzy was looking between us both ready for us to notice her when she puffed out her chest and excitedly whispered, almost squealing “ He said I look lovely!”. “Come on quick, let’s go dance, while I’m fresh on his mind”, she quickly added with a wink now dragging both me and Serena onto the dance floor in the next room. Once there, I tentatively watched as Serena and Izzy started getting in rhythm with the music. I then leaned in and spoke just loud enough for them to hear over the music “I’m just going to get some air”. They both stopped and leaned in, knowing what they were about to say I interrupted, “I’ll be fine, back in two minutes, you guys stay and enjoy”. After another are you sure look, I nodded, walking towards what I presumed was the door to the backyard.
Once I walked out, the fresh air hit my blood-filled cheeks and I felt as though I could truly breathe again. I closed my eyes, taking in big breaths and it took me a moment to take in my surroundings. It wasn’t the backyard but instead a small garden area where beautiful vines crept up the walls and small white pebbles laid a path leading to a stunning fountain. The fountain was unusual. It had wolves inlaid in the concrete along with small and large moon shapes. I went over to further examine the beautiful artwork when I heard footsteps on the pebbles behind me, and again I smelled the beautiful mix of roses and vanilla.
I quickly turned, realising I was no longer alone in this dimly lit place, only to bump into what felt like a wall, the momentum knocking me off balance. I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the fall that never came. Instead, I slowly opened my eyes to see those intense emerald eyes staring into mine. It took a moment for me to notice I was now being held by Seth. Automatically, I went to pull away from such an intimate position with a complete stranger, but his arms around me tightened, pulling me closer. I wanted to scream but a little voice again offered me reassurance in such a soothing way I fell into the moment. He then nuzzled his head into my neck, inhaling deeply, “Mate” he breathed.
