Chapter 6

Kate POV We arrive at the Alpha’s house extra early for hell day, as Angie and Cassie call it. I am nervous about today and want it to be over quickly. Cassie goes to the kitchen to begin cooking, and Angie goes for the laundry to get it started. Cassie sends me into the central area of the house to start scrubbing and cleaning everything. The place is a disaster. I cannot believe they have housekeepers in the house. There is no way they do anything in this house. I gather all the trash first. I have never seen so much garbage in such a small area. I take it out to dispose of it in the bin. As I make my way back into the house, I hear someone screaming at me. It is Alpha screaming at me. I stop and turn. “Come here, I said to you. Can you not hear?” Alpha screams at me. I walk quickly to him to see what he wants. I have to wonder what I have done to be screamed at this early in the morning. I do not want any trouble. As I approach, I realize he is standing with a woman. This woman must be the infamous Luna. What did I do to make her mad, I wonder? “I am sorry, sir,” I say to him, looking at the ground. I do not want to make eye contact. “See, look at her; doesn’t she look like her,” Alpha says, grabbing my face and forcing me to look Luna in the eyes. “Who is your mother, slave?” Luna asks me. “My mother’s name was Rainwater, but I do not know my mother. She died when I was young,” I say. Luna slaps me. “Liar, there is no way you belong to Rainwater! Rainwater is dead, and so is her daughter!” She screams at me. I fall to the ground. My ear is ringing, and my face is stinging. She begins kicking me while I lay on the ground. She kicks me in the chest and head. I curl up in a ball, covering my head with my hands to keep her from hurting me worse. The kicking suddenly stops. I can feel blood coming out of my mouth. I am choking. “Are you crazy, mother? What did she do?” I hear Erick ask her. “She is a liar and a tramp. She said her mother is Rainwater. There is no way this slave belonged to Rainwater. Rainwater and her child both died long ago,” Luna says to Erick. Erick helps me off of the ground. I collapse into his arms. “I don’t feel so good. I am hurting,” I say. “You hurt her bad, mother,” Erick says to his mother. “She shouldn’t be telling lies about who her mother is, and she would not be getting beat. I am going to kill her. Let her go,” Luna says to Erick as she tries to strike me again. “My chest hurts badly. I cannot breathe so good,” I say softly. “Let me look at you,” Erick says as he helps me stand upright next to him. “I think you broke her ribs, mother,” Erick says. “To hell with that stupid tramp; that is what she gets for telling fibs!” Luna screams at me. She begins spitting at me. She tries to hit me again, but Erick steps in between us. “Stop it! Can you not control her, dad?” Erick says to Alpha. “Get her back to work. This pack is not a charity,” Luna says as she walks away. Erick picks me up and carries me to his truck. “Where the hell are you going with her?” Alpha screams at him. “I am taking her to see the pack doctor,” Erick says. “She doesn’t deserve to see the pack doctor. Get her back to work,” Luna screams at Erick. Erick lays me in the back seat of his truck. “Try not to move, and I will get you to the pack doctor. Just be as still as possible,” He says. He gets in the truck and cranks it. He starts to back out of the driveway. Alpha runs up to the truck. “Get her seen about and find her another job to do. I don’t want her back at this house. You know how your mother is when she thinks she is right about something. We need to find out why that old man had her,” Alpha says. “Fine, I will take care of her. Dad, she is not lying. I saw her in wolf form. She is definitely an imperial wolf,” Erick says. “I know. I knew it as soon as I saw her. I was hoping I was wrong. I should not have told your mother,” Alpha says. “One day, maybe you will man up and handle your mate,” Erick says. He backs the truck up and starts driving. The ride is rough. Every time he hits a bump in the road, I scream. My chest feels broken, and I am having trouble breathing. “Just hang on; we are almost there,” Erick says, trying to calm me down. I take slow, shallow breaths as he tries to drive carefully to the pack doctor. He finally pulls into the pack doctor's house and parks the truck. “Hold on, I will go in and get someone to help me with you,” Erick says. Erick goes into the pack doctor's house and returns quickly with several wolves to help him with me. “I am afraid to move her,” Erick says to the other wolves. The wolves get into the truck and begin to move me out slowly. I scream out as they move me. “Please stop; I cannot take the pain,” I beg them. “Stay calm, Kate; we have to get you in the house so the doctor can look at you,” Erick says. The wolves grab me and move me quickly out of the truck. I scream and begin to sob. The wolves carry me carefully into the pack doctor's house. They take me straight back to an exam room where an older wolf is waiting to see me. “What happened to you, little one?” the old wolf asks me. “Luna happened to her,” Erick answers for me. He lifts my shirt to have a look at my injuries. “I will wait outside while he exams you,” Erick says. I grab his hand. “Please do not leave me,” I beg him. “I will stay if that is what you want,” Erick says. The pack doctor looks at my ribs. “She did a number on you, didn’t she,” the pack doctor says. As the pack doctor examines me, my ribs begin to hurt worse. “Ouch! Something is happening. What is happening?” I scream. Erick and the pack doctor watch as my ribs reform themselves and heal right before their eyes. “What the hell!” Erick shouts! The old pack doctor scratches his head and looks at Erick. “Where did she come from?” he asks Erick.
