Prologue
Giggles of twin girls, no older than five, could be heard throughout the little suburban house. They were complete opposites, but they got along better than most.
Bursting through the backdoor to go outside into their treehouse, the spunky one with curly hair started going up first, while the straight hair one followed soon after.
“Oh no!” The second girl gasped as she started to slip. With cat-like reflexes, her sister seized her arm and pulled her onto the platform of their little ‘secret hideout’. Full of diaries and childhood dreams. They made their way to the far back corner, away from prying eyes and ears.
Grabbing their treasure chest, they took out their little notebooks that they drew and wrote in.
“Okay, El. I’m ready. Tell me everything that happened in your dream this time.” The girl with straight hair spoke, pencil at the ready to jot down every detail possible that a little girl could manage.
“Wait, Al, I need the rock. It’s important this time around.” El replied.
Al quickly sifted through the treasure box, finding the stone, and handing it to her sister.
Once El had a hold of it, she pretended the tiny, brown rock was a necklace and started spinning her tails of Zarda. “So this time, the Sidon’s came over, and they wanted my soulmate necklace to see if it would match up with their prince’s necklace. They didn’t match. So they declared war on all of us. Only I got sent me away to this place with you to be reborn. Not my brother. I don’t know why. All I remember was that the king of the universe backed us up, and it should have ended the war. I was supposed to marry his son since our necklaces matched. But can I tell you a secret?” El whispered, hand covering one side of her mouth from view, like someone could overhear them.
Al scooched in close, eagerly to hear her sister’s secret. “I know the Prince of the Universe and I are supposed to be soulmates, but I thought the Sidon Prince was cuter.” They giggled together.
“I wish I had a soulmate. We could ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after.” Al sigh dreamily, imagining herself with the Prince of the Universe. He sounded perfect for a girl so young, remembering all of the times El mentioned him.
“Here, I want to give you this. It can be your soulmate necklace, so you can find your soulmate one day. We can ask dad and mom to help us put a string on it.” El put the precious stone in her sisters hand.
An audible gasp of happiness could be heard from the new owner, “Thank you, I promise I will keep it forever.” She told her older sister.
They gave each other a hug, the stone glinted with blue magical hues, going unnoticed by the girls, but not by the man traveling through the shadows.
He made his way back to his home undetected that had been ravished by the war. Making his way through the rubble, he approached the woman wearing a pink and blue renaissance dress that matched the colours of her wings, radiating nobility and power. Bowing low to the ground, he waited patiently, no matter how long it would take for his existence to be acknowledged. Luckily for him, she was a kind queen and didn’t leave her subjects waiting on their knees days on end. “Rise. How is the child fairing?”
He rose, looking her straight in her calm and relaxed blue eyes that could change any minute with her mood. Her crown sat across her pink curly hair and antenna, showing her royal status as Queen of the Fairies.
“Your majesty, the pri-“ He corrected his wording with just a slight, barely noticeable fleck of power flashing in her irises. ”The girl is doing fine. Her parents are taking good care of her, and she is in good company with her sister. They get along extremely well.”
She nodded in acknowledgement while walking away, dismissing him for the time being with just a slight wave of her hand. Only he caught the colour of her eyes changed from blue to green, indicating her mood was now happier. They both knew he was keeping things from her, but being her brother, he was the only one she trusted to keep secrets from her for her own daughters safety.
