Emory I try to stay calm during the check-up with Dr. Martin. He hasn’t said a word as we started with the ultrasound. He is intently looking over the monitor to see the baby. We’ve had an ultrasound before, and everything had been normal. Our pack healer’s concern is what’s driving my anxiety for my baby’s health. “There’s the head,” Dr. Martin says. “And oh–did you want to know the s*x?” I look at Kane, and we both nod. “Yes,” I tell the doctor. “We’d like to know.” Dr. Martin smiles. “It’s definitely a boy.” I turn to Kane, and he smiles. “I told you we’d have a boy.” He grins back at me, and I can tell he’s proud. “Maybe the next one might be a girl.” The next one.
