Unwanted mate

Zak POV

Mara slid her arms around my neck, she sat on my desk as I stood between her open legs, giving me a good view of her lacy red knickers.

“You know he’s been following me around like a little lost pup again?”

Mara spoke of her mate, we had been dating for six years now and were very much in love. When her mate turned sixteen, four years ago the bond revealed itself, and she all but rejected him. A warrior’s wife would be so far beneath her, considering she had so much potential to be my Luna.

I planned to make her my Luna on the full moon that occurred the week after she turned twenty one, in two months’ time and seeing as I hadn’t found my mate it made it that much easier. The bond between an alpha and his true Luna is always stronger than those of regular wolves, everything you feel is magnified and when and if I find my mate, I know my wolf will do anything within his power to make her, his.

How bad is her condition?

You would have to see it to believe it. She has been beaten recently and has been, without a doubt starved and neglected for years, I am amazed she is still alive. The stench alone. Alpha you need to see them for yourself.

She unhooked her hands from around my neck and I begrudgingly pulled myself away from the raven haired beauty.

“I am sorry my love. A rogue with a neglected child have just made their way onto our territory. I need to check it out.”

She let out a disappointed groan and slid from the desk.

“Go do your job my love, but be quick. I have something to show you.” She said seductively as she ran her finger from her neck, down her chest and between her shirtless cleavage.

I turned away from her, took three strides to the door and placed my hand on the metal door handle, before taking three long breaths to try to calm my frustrated erection.

I was only a couple of feet from the pack house when my wolf began to stir, he had always been quite a proud, quiet wolf, but suddenly he was jumping around inside my head and I had a feeling what this meant. My suspicions were confirmed when the scent in the air caught my attention, the faint smell of coffee and vanilla invaded my nostrils as I walked towards the small group that included my beta, Si and third, Nick.

I immediately saw what Si was talking about when I saw the child. A young girl with greasy dark blonde hair limped with her head hung down, I could even see the large cut running from the side of her head down to her jaw from this distance. As I got close to them, they stopped. She looked confused, her head was whipping around as if she were possessed. I stood next to her, looking down at her and by the look in her eyes, I realised she must have been talking to her wolf.

“What’s wrong with her?”

As my question caught her attention she looked up at me, I had to turn away from her dull blue eyes, just looking at them made me feel dizzy. Once again her head began to whip around and I could smell an unwashed odour wafting from her, but there was something else. I could smell the irresistible scent of coffee and vanilla again, faint due to the strong repulsive smell emanating from her and that’s when I realised then and there, this young girl is my mate. Why would the moon Goddess give me a waif of a child as a mate?

That’s our mate? Even my wolf, Bane was shocked.

It seems so, but it seems like she’s been treated so badly, she’s not in her right mind.

I’ve tried to speak to her wolf, but she’s not even speaking. Are they mute or something?

“Really, what is wrong with her?”

“Her wolf is just appearing to her, Alpha.” Nick said beginning to stroke her back.

How dare he touch our mate, before we even get the chance to speak to her! My wolf started to get agitated by the way she seemed comfortable around my third.

Alright calm down, Nick doesn’t know she’s our mate yet. I pushed his hand away from her before my wolf got any more riled up.

“Hands to yourself Nicholas.”

“Yes Alpha. I apologise Alpha. Freya.” He hung his head and obeyed as I used my alpha tone.

I noticed she had gone back to talking to her wolf as she began to ignore the world around her, she must have been in her own head for ten minutes before she returned to the rest of us.

“Um…Hi?” She looked at us confused as we all looked back at her.

Her wolf is new to her. They have only just united.

What does that mean? We unite with our wolves at thirteen, how has she only just united with hers. This cannot be happening!

“Her wolf’s only just appearing to her? A thirteen year old? The moon goddess has paired me with a f*****g thirteen year old? What am I supposed to do with a child as a mate?”

My shock was mixed with anger, I was the alpha of the largest pack in the world. My pack territory covered the whole of the North of Britain, I needed a strong, beautiful Luna, not a weak child like this one.

“Mate?”

The unwashed brown haired man looked like he’d won the lottery, his slimy yellow teeth showing as he grinned at me.

“Freya?” Si questioned her. “What is your wolf telling you?”

So her name’s Freya? I kinda like it.

But she’s not Mara. This girl’s not good enough to be a Luna.

“That I look like I’ve lost my mind and that I’m a moron.”

Well at least we know her wolf does talk. I pointed out to my wolf.

Sounds like she’s got some sass too! Bane spoke with excitement.

“About the Alpha, what’s she telling you about the Alpha?” Si asked her, more specifically.

“She hasn’t said a lot, I think she’s too busy drooling.”

Her wolf likes us. Bane was getting more excited by the minute.

You are seeing what I’m seeing right? She’s a complete mess, she’d never be good enough for us! For our pack. She’s not even pretty.

I know she’s not the strongest or as sexy as Mara, but Freya is our true mate, we need to give her a chance. My wolf tried to reason with me.

I looked down at her while she spoke to her wolf, after a few minutes she began to look upset, devastated even. Bane whimpered as he saw the look on her face and the tears that were in her eyes as she looked up to meet my eyes.

“You already have a chosen mate?” There was no fight in her expression, she just seemed to be resigned to the fact that I would choose another over her.

“I do.” The sadness in her eyes hit my wolf like a ten ton truck. “But the moon Goddess has given you to me for some unknown reason, so you will stay here with me from now on.”

She looked away from me, turning her head to the side slightly and for the first time, I noticed the bruises on her jaw and around her neck, her baggy shirt let me get a glance down at her bruised chest and ribs and the question rang in my head, how far down her body did these marks and bruises go?

Getting a good look there Zak? I could almost hear Si’s smirk through the mind link.

She’s my mate. I was only looking at her injuries anyway, nothing like that. I defended myself.

Yeah, well don’t forget about my sister.

She is the love of my life Si, there is no possibility of forgetting her. You have no need to worry there. Have you found out any information about what has happened to her? How is she in such an appalling state?

Nick it will be better coming from you, you’ve been speaking to her more than any of us.

From what I can gather Alpha, she has been starved for years. Within the last week all she has eaten is a biscuit and had a couple of cups of tea. It’s a wonder how she’s still alive. Nick said with a sombre tone to his voice.

And the beatings? How did she get so badly injured when her father is here to protect her?

Well, that I believe would be the problem, her father is quite obviously the one who has been beating the girl. He told us a story earlier about walking in and finding another man beating her. You’ll never guess the name he gave us…

Of course I don’t, we all know Alex would never be capable of such a thing, if anything I would imagine he was trying to protect her. Over everything this pack put him through he probably felt for her.

The coward got nothing that he didn’t deserve.

So you believe her father has been beating her? I felt the rage begin to boil at the realisation.

“You.” I looked at the disgusting human being in front of me. “You have brought pain and mistreatment upon my mate!”

“And? The girl needed punishment if she disobeyed me. She was under my care, I did what I saw fit at the time.” He looked at me, no fear in his eyes and it was then that I felt a powerful aura emitting from him.

“There is no excuse for such mistreatment on a defenceless young girl.” The sickening man scoffed.

“A child? The girl is twenty years of age. She should know her place by now. Worthless little runt.”

“You lie. She can’t be any older than a teen, a young one at that.”

I scanned over her body, she had no shape to indicate that she was older than the thirteen year old I suspected her to be.

She has to be at least sixteen. We have recognised her as our mate, that wouldn’t happen until she was sixteen. I had forgotten that small detail until my wolf reminded me.

I scanned her again and noticed her head nodding.

“I turned twenty, three months ago alpha.”

I looked at her in a new light, twenty? The years of neglect and mistreatment she must have gone through to be so stunted in her development.

She is strong. She may well surprise you. She survived hell and still stands here in front of us, she would make a good mate. My wolf tried to talk me around.

We’ll see about that. She has got to be an extreme case of special for me to brush Mara aside. I have already chosen Mara to be the pack’s Luna and she will be.

Who said about brushing Mara to the side, we could keep Mara as our mistress, while this one has our pups. The moon Goddess gave her to us and there must be a reason, she is strong, she will give us strong pups.

We’ll see about that, she has the two months to prove herself worthy of even warming my bed. If I still find her as repulsive as I find her now after that she can join the omegas in the kitchens.

But she is still our mate and it is this man, whoever he is that caused her to be so unworthy of the position of Luna.

I knew what my wolf meant, she wasn’t worthy of being the Luna to such a successful pack, but it was through no fault of her own, we had to give her the benefit of the doubt. It was this disgusting, poor excuse of a father that caused all of her problems.

“Tell me man, why I shouldn’t just rip your throat out here and now?”

“Because killing me would cause a war. The free moon pack would certainly take revenge on the person who killed their alpha.”

The free moon pack? No it couldn’t be, could it? I had only heard the stories of the most vicious alpha the world had ever seen. They say he had attacked the Lycaon Kingdom, trying to dethrone the royals. It is said that he killed the young prince, the heir to the throne, leaving the king and queen childless and has been on the run ever since.

Such a strong alpha and we are mated to his daughter? Imagine how strong she will be when she will be at her full strength. My wolf was still trying to talk me round to the idea of having Freya as a mate.

We can keep her around for a while. But you have to wonder why he treats her the way he does, maybe she really is the runt he says she is.

“The alpha? Of the largest rogue pack in the world?” I needed him to clarify it for me.

“Don’t forget the deadliest pack also. Your pack would be obliterated in a matter of minutes” The way he said the words sent shivers throughout my body.

By the way Freya looked at her father, she had no idea what he was even talking about. If her wolf had only just shown herself, did she even know about wolves?

“The girl will stay here.” I told him.

“I wouldn’t have it any other way. Goddess knows, if I had any money I would pay you to take the useless b***h off my hands.” Her father laughed at her, which angered Bane, and I felt him snarl through me.

“Careful what you say alpha Jeffrey, the moon Goddess paired us together. Insulting my mate is insulting me. Maybe I should get in touch with the royal family, they have wanted you for years for your crimes.”

“That my dear alpha, would still cause you a war.” His comment, paired with a sly smirk angered both me and my wolf.

“Go. Get off my land.”

And with that he walked away with a spring in his step. I watched his back until he was just a dot in the distance.
