Smells like a human

LAILA’S POV

After that beautiful lady left my new room I was left to ponder on what she had said to me. My father had never told me that I was coming here to be a wife, if he had told me that I would have done my best to get away and make sure that it didn’t happen. If he had told me I would have even jumped out of the car because I wasn’t about to live my life as a fifth wife. Was this the kind of life that my father thought was good for me?

I hadn't met the other three wives and I wished I wouldn’t have to meet them. However, I knew that they would soon also come to introduce themselves and mark their territory in no time and I was right.

I heard whispering by the door and soon after that, the door knob turned as someone tried to come in. Luckily I had locked the door. After what I had experienced with the first wife I knew that I would have to be very careful and make sure that I didn’t find myself facing another one of his wives unwillingly.

“Please open the door” a small voice shouted from the other side of the door, I was already annoyed and I hated the fact that she wasn’t even knocking. She was acting as if she had a right to come into my room. Yes, this was my room now because I was going to be staying here. I didn’t want to stay here but if I was going to stay here I had to make sure that I demanded the respect that I was willing to give back.

“Why?” I asked and I heard a scoff.

“She has only been here a few hours and she is acting like the new golden toy” I heard another voice with was thicker and rough. What kind of a lady had a rough voice, she was probably a heavy drinker.

“If you think about it, she kind of is the shiny new toy. You know how he gets with them when they are new, you remember how things went when Evelyn first got here. As a matter of fact, he still treats her like she is his queen” the one with a smaller voice complained

“You better open this door now,” the other one said

“Or what?” I challenged as I walked to the door and unlocked it. I wasn’t about to be bullied. When they saw me they both seemed a little speechless but they pushed their way through soon after the shock wore off their faces.

“This is a very nice room,” the one with a rough voice said. To be honest, the only did not match the voice at all, she was very skinny and shorter than me. However, I could see that they were both older than me.

“It’s not as nice as I expected it to be so I guess that is something that we can be thankful for,” the one with a sweeter voice and blonde hair said

“My name is Lucy,” the rough one said and I nodded slowly, I couldn’t understand why they were here and why they thought I was interested in knowing anything about them.

“And my name is Chloe,” the other one said looking at me up and down

”Why do you smell like that?” she asked me

“Like what?” I asked her and she looked at Lucy and they laughed

“Well you stink” Lucy said and that made me uncomfortable. Maybe it was because I hadn't bathed.

“I can see what Grace was talking about but I don’t understand why she would feel threatened by someone who smells like that,” Lucy said

“I am very comfortable and confident in my position in this pack and I know that one day I will be the one that gives him an heir. That is what he told me last night” Chloe said with dreamy eyes

Lucy Scoffed “Do you really think that that is something that he only tells you?”

“He is desperate for an heir and he tells all of us that so that we work hard in producing one”

“Can you guys leave please?” I asked and they both turned and looked at me as if they had forgotten that I was even in the room.

”This sounds like a private conversation and I am not interested in hearing it,” I said

“Sure we will leave,” Lucy said looking around my room one more time and laughed

“This place really does smell bad and I doubt that the alpha will be visiting you anytime soon,” she added

“He probably made a mistake by bringing her here,” Chloe said

”He will realize his mistake and take her back to her home” she added as if she was trying to convince herself and comfort herself.

“You are right, this is no place for humans. If he doesn’t realize this soon she will” Lucy said as if that was supposed to be some kind of a threat.

I had grown up on the streets and I had learned that I had to take care of myself because no one else would. I had learned that I had to watch out for myself and that was the reason why they didn’t scare me. I was going to defend myself if I had to and I wasn’t going to be bullied by anyone while I was here.

I couldn’t help wondering why they said that this was not a place for humans, they had spoken as if they were some kind of alien and I had been abducted by mistake. One thing that I agreed on with them was the fact that Mr Jackson had made a mistake by bringing me here and I also agreed that he would realize his mistake the minute he saw me. I hadn't seen him ever since I got here but I had hoped that I would see him soon so that he would take me back home and tell him that he couldn’t accept a weak and smelly human like me.
