Regrets

DYLAN'S POV Saying that the mating ball was a disaster was an understatement. Not only was I made to feel out of place, but I also didn’t find my mate. Not finding my mate wasn’t really a surprise to me because I kind of already knew that I wouldn’t find her. I hated the way their mating balls just raised my hopes, only for me to be disappointed at the end of the day. I often got excited to attend the mating ball, and I often ignored the possibility of not finding my mate there despite my heart knowing that I wouldn't find her. It was the same thing each year and I was getting tired of it. I was getting tired of trying and being persistent when everything in me wanted to give up. I had come to a point where I felt that I had to accept the fact that my mate wasn’t in this wolf territory and maybe start looking elsewhere. Maybe I would have to even look at the rogues, of course, no wouldn’t want a mate that was a rogue but if that was the fate that was set for me by the moon goddess then I would have to accept it and live with it. “Well…that went well,” Theo said as we headed back home “That was just a waste of my time, I can’t believe I allowed you to talk me into going there,” I said. “Why are you suddenly acting like you didn’t want to go? We both know that you wanted to go” he said and he wasn't wrong, that was the reason why I was upset. I was upset because I wanted to go despite knowing deep down that going there was futile. “I hate the fact that I always raise my hopes before this only to be disappointed” I sighed “You can’t give up just yet,” he said “What if she hasn’t come of age yet? You know that female wolves don’t attend the mating ball until they come of age” he reminded me, but that didn’t matter. “That doesn’t make much of a difference. Do you think I want a Luna who just came of age at my age? I am twenty five years old and I can’t b running around with teenagers, if my mate was that young I would have no choice but to reject her” I said and he scoffed “Many alphas would kill for a young Luna, but you are saying you would rather be alone than have a young one?” he asked me, and I nodded “I can’t have waited for so many years for a teenager. If my mate was meant to be a teenager, then maybe it would have been best if I met her when I was also a teenager don’t you agree?” I asked him, and he shrugged. “You never know how fate works…maybe this is how the goddess meant it for you,” he said as we pulled up into the driveway. “Or maybe she sent me that little human up there,” I said with a smirk, and he shook his head “Don’t even think about it, Dylan, this will only end badly for you” he said. “How?” I asked him “What if she is my mate?” I asked, and he shook his head. “No way, that is impossible. And if it is possible, then you would have to reject her, rather stay with a teenage wolf than a human one” he said, and I laughed “Whatever, all I know is that I need to f**k something tonight and if you and Evan didn’t move her she will be the one under me tonight,” I said with a wink. I had no plans of visiting the human girl but after what Theo put me through at the mating ball I wanted to also make him panic. He had introduced me to every single unmated wolf at the ball probably with the hopes of me picking one as my mate. I had to constantly remind him that a mate wasn’t something that I could pick for myself. The fact that we had to meet every female should have made it clear to him that my mate wasn’t here. After I got out of the car I headed to my room and tried to decide which one of my concubines deserved a visit from me. I was hesitant to go out there and meet with any of them, but at the same time, I knew that it would be a disaster if I sent Theo or Evans to get one of them for me. If Grace picked their scents, she was going to try to force her way through to my room because she always wanted to be the first choice, and I really didn’t get to be dealing with her tonight. “Where are you going?” I heard Theo ask me from behind as I was just about to enter the west wing of the mansion. “I am going to see Evelyn,” I said, and he shook his head “Go back, and I will get her for you,” he said, pushing me back to where I came from “I will make sure that you don’t meet this human girl if it’s the last thing that I will do. There is no way that I will allow you to bring this pack to doom. We are not trying to be outlasted completely from the wolf territory, and if you entangle yourself with that girl, we will lose everything” he said, and he was right. I couldn’t risk everything that I had been working so hard to get back. I headed back to my room and waited for Evelyn, hoping that she would be able to help me forget about what a disaster tonight had been.
