Glowing Hands

942 Words
As Nia caught her breath, she couldn't shake off the feeling of unease left by the dream. She had never had a dream that felt so real and so vivid. And the destruction she had witnessed still lingered in her mind, like a shadow. She tried to push the thoughts aside, focusing on her surroundings. The cold stone walls, the darkness, the silence. She was still trapped, still a prisoner. But something felt different. A strange sensation was building inside her, like a fluttering in her chest. She stood up, her heart pounding in her chest. She felt a sudden jolt of electricity run through her body, and her fingers tingled with an otherworldly energy. She looked down at her hands in confusion, wondering what was happening to her. They seemed to be glowing with a soft blue light, but she had no idea why. The light grew brighter, and Nia felt herself being lifted off the ground. She panicked, unsure of what was happening or how to control it. And then, just as suddenly as it had started, everything stopped. The light faded, and Nia fell back to the ground, gasping for breath. She looked around, bewildered, wondering what had just happened. She had no idea what was going on or what was happening to her. All she knew was that she felt changed somehow. Something inside her had shifted. Nia stumbled backwards, her heart still racing from the strange sensation. She looked around her cell, wondering if anyone had seen what had just happened. But she was alone, and the darkness seemed to swallow her whole. She tried to shake off the feeling of unease, telling herself she was hallucinating, it was just a side effect of her captivity. But deep down, she knew that something was changing within her. She walked over to the wall, running her hand over the cold stone. It was solid and unyielding. But as she touched it, she felt a strange tingling sensation, like the stone was vibrating beneath her fingers. Nia snatched her hand back, startled. What was going on? She looked down at her fingers, half-expecting to see them glowing again. But they were normal, pale, and slender in the dim light. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. She had to focus on escape, not on these strange and frightening occurrences. She began to pace her cell, searching for any weakness or opportunity to break free. Nia paced her cell, her mind racing with thoughts of escape. She had to get out of here, and she had to find a way to freedom. But how? The walls were solid, the door was thick, and the window was barred. She was trapped, with no clear way out. As she walked, she noticed something strange. The floor was made of large stone tiles, and they seemed to be slightly uneven. She stopped pacing and looked down, her eyes scanning the floor. Yes, some of the tiles were raised slightly higher than others. It was a small difference, but it might be enough. Nia's heart began to race as she realized what she might be able to do. She had always been agile, and flexible. If she could use that to her advantage, maybe she could squeeze through the tiny gap between the tiles. Without hesitation, Nia dropped to her hands and knees and began to explore the floor. She searched for the largest gap, her fingers probing the darkness for any sign of weakness. And then she found it—a small opening, just large enough for her to squeeze through. Her heart racing, Nia began to work on the tile. She used her fingers to pry it loose, her nails scraping against the stone. It was slow going, but she didn't stop. She knew she had to keep trying, no matter how difficult it seemed. Finally, after what felt like hours, the tile came loose. Nia pulled it out, revealing a small hole in the floor. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she was really going to do this. But then she took a deep breath and began to crawl through the hole. The tunnel was narrow and dark, and Nia had to push herself through it with her hands. She scraped her knees and elbows on the rough stone, but she didn't stop. She kept crawling, her heart pounding in her chest. And then, suddenly, she saw light. Nia's heart leapt with excitement as she realized she had made it. She was free. With a final push, Nia emerged from the tunnel and found herself in a long, dark corridor. She looked around, trying to get her bearings. She was in some kind of castle or fortress, and she had no idea where she was or where she was going. But she didn't care. She was free, and that was all that mattered. Nia began to run, her feet pounding against the stone floor. She didn't know where she was going, but she knew she had to keep moving. She had to find a way out of this place, and she had to do it before they caught her. As she ran, she heard the sound of footsteps behind her. They were heavy and loud, and they were getting closer. Nia's heart raced with fear as she realized she was being chased. She didn't dare look back; she just kept running. The corridor twisted and turned, leading her deeper into the fortress. Nia's breath was getting shorter, and her legs were aching, but she didn't stop. She couldn't stop. She had to keep going, no matter what.
