The welcome party in the clubhouse is fun, or at least it has been so far. And it’s not really a full-blown party when there are only a couple of dozen guests. Bailey booked this place a little earlier in the season than usual, and there’s still a week or so before the main bulk of winter holidaymakers arrive. Everyone’s been pretty restrained, really.
Well, apart from Bailey! He’s entering into the holiday spirit in style. He’s been here several times before and he knows the ski staff. He also knows the barman, the chambermaids, the restaurant manager, and he’s had the full guided tour of the kitchens. He’s everyone’s friend and they look after him well with extra champagne and attention. I watch him laughing, flushed with drink, his arm around Cass’s shoulders. Their love is very relaxe
