I was awakened in the middle of the night by the vibration of the phone. I forgot to log out of the game chat and received several messages. I only read one of these, the one I had been waiting for days.
" I'm sorry you missed me, I've had a lot to do in recent weeks. I hope the event went well yesterday. Ah, it's impossible for the i***t to overtake me, I'm too far ahead in the rankings " wrote Samael.
I laughed, then read what he had written well. He had understood well that he had been missed by me. Puffing, I closed the chat and went back to sleep. This time he would be waiting for me.
The next morning, I took some papers and tried to write down drafts of the various plans that I needed to escape from my parents again.
After a couple of hours of listening to music and making a few simple quests on Empire of Gods, the papers were still sadly blank. Not only had I failed to come up with a number of different plans, but I hadn't sketched out a single one. After getting tired of even playing online and listening to music, I picked up my cell phone and called Janny.
" Hey " she replied after a couple of rings.
" I'm desperate " I said sadly.
" Are you still thinking about an escape route? "
" Yes, and I didn't find anything "
" What if You told your parents that you do not want to do what they told you? "
" Does it seem feasible? " I asked, cynical.
" No, but at least you've deleted an option from the list that you haven't done yet " she replied, laughing.
" Spend other years at university? " she added.
" I can’t continue my studies " I replied.
" Why? "
" Because I already knew they would say no "
" We have to find you a job then…. Or a handsome husband that you like " she said the last sentence with such emphasis that it made me laugh.
" Do you think that I would gladly stop playing just because I have found a husband that I like? " I asked laughing.
" I was joking, but the hypothesis of finding a job seems the most sensible. You could also find a part-time job. You will have the time to play "
" What if it won't please my parents? "
" You can find another one or lie about what you did ".
The hypothesis of lying did not seem very feasible, my father always remained a lawyer, it would not take long to find out where I would work.
Demoralized, I left Janny for her day and went back to playing Empire of Gods.
We were in the quiet period of the game, the euphoria was low and there were few players on the streets of the capital. The perfect time to accumulate exp without getting noticed. I only had that as a plan in mind, no one else. Probably in about 3 months I should have finished with that life and before then I wanted to savor at least the shadow of Samael from second place in the standings. He was truly unreachable, but at least I would have been the girl who had come close to him and then disappeared into thin air. More than that, I didn't know what to do. Even the Sidereal Shadow propaganda videos didn't help me dispel my bad thoughts and they were really well done. The publicity that the company had for its various games was wonderful.
I liked how they featured all of their games in one spot.
" I should send the resume to Sidereal Shadow, I have so much experience on their Empire of Gods that they will take me for sure " I exclaimed, laughing, to myself.
I would have gladly accepted a job from them, the only problem would have been to justify it to my parents.
I sighed and laughed as I watched Starlen's victory dance once I beat yet another simple guest boss. A sound drew attention to the chat. I received a personal audio from someone. I listened to him without even caring who he was.
" You did not answer me. Did you miss me so much to annoy you? ".
Fuck! Samael had caught me on and was talkative again.
I turned on the microphone of the headphones and answered in tone.
" I did not miss you. You were missed by all those idiots hiding in your shadow "
There was no call mode and it was real luck since, from the speed with which he answered me, he would not have given me time to think.
" Lol! Found husband? " Samael had a very direct way of getting to the point.
" Probably, but I was thinking of running away somewhere "
" Why? "
" Because I do not want to get married " I replied, snorting.
" Don't do it then ".
He said it with such naturalness that he baffled me for a while.
" Moreover, I'm getting married or I find a job " I replied.
" You can always find a job " another obvious answer from Samael.
" It must be of a certain type, otherwise my parents would not approve it and I would have to fall back on the option of marriage. It's absurd, but it's true "
" I think that with the next updates they could put the work and marriage mode. You can choose which one you prefer " he said seriously.
I laughed like crazy and let him hear it.
" I can tell Dad that I found a job as a slayer of gods or I could tell him that I married a troll " I answered, ironically.
" Why a troll? " he asked.
The discussion seemed to amuse him, his tone of voice had become playful.
" What else should I marry? "
" A demon " he answered dryly.
" No, I don't think Destructor is my type " I replied cynically.
" I don’t believe it either. You could marry me. Together we will dominate the world " he said it with such seriousness to make me blush.
" I don’t even see your face "
" Would it change something? "
" No, but if there is a child mode, I would at least like to know how they could be born " I replied, laughing.
" Well, they would be like our avatars " replied Samael.
" My avatar looks a bit like me " I joked.
" Mine not really, I'm not cerulean and with white hair " he answered laughing.
Unlike my avatar, his was of the ice type and therefore his predominant colors were white, gray and blue.
" Do you know I was joking? "
" I know, you look more beautiful than your avatar " he said it with a voice so hot that I instantly got wet.
I stood staring at our avatars on the screen and didn't answer.
" You say nothing? Did I make you blush? " he asked.
'Also, but you mostly made me wet' that's what I thought but didn't answer.
" No, I got distracted for a moment " I lied.
" What is your real problem? "
" I'm about to graduate and I chose a faculty that I could easily overcome just to be able to stay away from my life in San Francisco and then spend the days locked at home playing and watching TV series " I confessed.
" Did you run away from your family? " his voice had become serious.
" Not really, I just took time before spending the rest of my life closed in tight schemes "
" Why? "
" We don’t know each other, I don’t think it is the case to deepen the discussion " I replied seriously.
" Okay, let's go back to the main point. Are you looking for a way not to be forced to return to San Francisco? What do you really need? "
" A job far from California, maybe even prominent and that allows me to continue my life as a gamer. A stable place that is not in the spotlight "
" Is there a particular reason why you are looking for something extremely private? "
" Mine are quite important people. I don't want to stay in their shadow and not even be conditioned by their choices "
" I understand "
" I will not succeed " I replied, sadly.
" If you can't, what happens? "
" I close my account, I will go back to San Francisco and, if it suits me, I will take a couple of years to help dad at work and then I will have to marry some stupid rich guy " I replied cynically.
Paradoxically, the thing I didn't want to tell him in the end I spat out all too easily.
" Why? "
" Because I am a useless daughter ".
A couple of minutes passed before he answered and, in the meantime, I was getting more and more depressed.
" What if I have a way to help you? Could I do it? " he asked.
" Attempting does not harm. If the plan goes down, will you remember me? "
" Sure. You're the girl who beat hundreds of guys into video games " he replied, laughing.
" True! What do you propose? " I asked, laughing.
" I have to think about it. Maybe I have something for you "
" No illegal things, I hope "
" Of course not. Candy trafficking isn't illegal yet. How much time do you have? " he joked.
" 3 or 4 months at the most " I replied, laughing.
" I'll let you know "
" Why do you want to help me? "
" I like the way you do " he answered quickly.
I blushed again.
" Thanks " I replied, timidly.
" You will thank me if I can help you "
" Will you want something in return, in case? " I asked, with a worried voice.
" Only your soul " he replied, with an amused voice.
" I thought worse, it can be done. But I don't know if it will be useful to you. Dante has described a group especially for me. I do not think they would make you keep it " I replied, seriously.
" I could be the boss over there ... " he replied.
" Ah well! Then no problem! " I laughed.
" Answer a question first "
" Tell me "
" Your name, tell me "
" Why? "
" I'm curious "
" Will you tell me yours? " I asked, hopefully.
" Yes " he replied dryly.
" Ashe ".
His answer was not long in coming.
" Ozy "
" Lol. We both have strange names " I laughed.
" Sure " he laughed too.
" Well Ozy, thanks for the chat. I hope to have the opportunity to give my soul in exchange for a satisfactory proposal " I said, with an excellent salesman's tone.
" I enjoyed chatting and I hope to soon be able to keep your soul in the lowest of my circles of hell " he replied.
His voice could tell that he was laughing. I, although it really looked like I was selling my soul to the devil, I couldn't help but grin. Mister Ozy looked really interesting.
