*Esmé’s POV* I wanted to slam the door so bad as I left, but he would know that he got under my skin if I did. ‘Focus Esmé.’ I chastised myself. A man has never been able to get under my skin as this asšhole has. Once I get back to the apartment, I will tell Thomas to deal with him. I don’t want to deal with him anymore. The only reason that I needed him was because he was good at his job and I needed all the information about my old home. I have driven a couple of times and seen men guarding the place. Therefore, someone killed my family for the throne. Little did they know that I was coming for what was rightfully mine. I got into my SUV and headed back home fuming. I parked in the lower garage level and ran upstairs, opening the door to my apartment, then slamming it shut. Thomas came out of the kitchen, gun drawn. “What the fūck happened to you?” He asked, lowering his weapon. “He is a fūcking pendejo! He asked personal questions then proceeded to tell me ‘this was just business’!” I yelled, making air quotation marks. (Stupid) He sighed, turning around and getting back to his chicken wings. “You are letting him get to you, Esmé.” He told me as he took a bite of the chicken wing. No, dip Sherlock! I know that! I rolled my eyes at him. “I don’t know why he gets so under my skin. You have to deal with him. I don’t want anything to do with him. Unless I have to kill him, of course.” I told Thomas, shrugging my shoulders and walking to the plate of chicken wings, grabbing one. My phone buzzed from my back pocket. Taking my phone out, I saw a text message from Raul. Raul: When can we meet? Me: 30 minutes? Usual place? Raul: Deal. “I’ll be back in a bit! Don’t wait up for me!” I yelled over my shoulder to Thomas as I walked out of the apartment. I quickly got into my SUV and headed down to Raul’s usual motel, where we would meet. We both knew this was not anything serious. We would meet, have okay sēx, and then go our separate ways. I parked the SUV in the space nearest to the exit, just in case I had to run out, and headed upstairs to our standard room. Room 313. “There you are. I missed you.” Raul said, pulling me by the waist as he kissed my neck. “I don’t have much time.” I said. For some odd reason, his touches were repulsive. All I could think about were piercing green eyes. I shut my eyes, trying to shake the thought from my brain without Raul noticing. I was usually already on top of him, fūcking him. Tonight I was dry as fūck. I wasn’t trying to even kiss him. Ugh, what the fūck. I need to get out of here. “I’m sorry, I can’t do this.” I told Raul, trying to push him off of me, but he would not budge. “Oh, come on, baby. You know you want me.” He said, gripping me tighter. I was trying to push the bile down from my throat. ”I do not. Let me go, Raul.” I told him again, trying to push him off by his shoulders. Again he wouldn’t budge. “You can’t fight me. You will never win. Once I have my dīck in you, you will moan my name like you always do.” He said as he licked my earlobe. What the fūck is this? How did he become so psycho, and I didn’t even notice. I scoffed internally. He thought I couldn’t fight him off? PFT. I pulled him by the hair, where he groaned, letting me take this as an advantage. I pulled my small knife from the inner waistband of my jeans and slit his throat. He loosed his grip on my hips and placed them on his throat as he tried to breathe, but he was too far gone due to the blood loss. “I guess I won, right?” I whispered into his ear, pushing him onto the bed. I turned around, leaving the motel room. I ran towards my SUV and sped to my apartment. Once I parked, I quickly made my way up the stairs, opening the door. I stood by the door catching my breath when Thomas came out of the room. “I thought—“ He was saying when he suddenly stopped when he saw what used to be a white t-shirt now red. He walked towards me. “Are you hurt? What happened?” He asked with brows furrowed. I could see in his eyes and facial expression that he was worried. “I need a shower.” I told him, walking past him and into my room. I closed the door and walked into my ensuite bathroom. I took off all my clothes then stepped into the shower. The water first turned pink due to the blood on my body, then flowed clear. I grabbed my body wash and scrubbed harder than ever. Once out of the shower, I walked back out to the living room, where Thomas was sitting, waiting for me. “I need you to go to the motel that I used to frequent. Go to room 313. I need you to dispose of Raul’s body properly.” I told him as I walked to the kitchen to grab a water bottle. “I am going to go to bed. I will be contacting the Capo of Italy tomorrow. You also need to deal with Walker.” I told Thomas as I walked back into my bedroom. I usually get like this when I kill someone. No emotions. I lay in my bed, my eyes closing as soon as my head touched the soft pillows. Instead of the reoccurring nightmare of my family’s death, I dreamt of piercing green eyes that night. You can only imagine how I woke up the following morning.
