What are we?
Nandi’s POV
The house is full again, my parents came back from Bali and so did my little sister. Mom and dad brought back so many gifts for everyone, I got a new phone and so many new clothes too, dresses to be specific. My mom at some point thought I was a tomboy because I always preferred to hangout more with my male cousins as compared to my female cousins. She made it her personal goal to dress me up like a girl as much as possible. She and Aunt Miriam always emphasize I wear dresses whenever we go anywhere together.
Wiza and I have been spending more time together. He comes by Mart speedy every afternoon when he is not playing rugby. He waits for me to leave work then he would escort me home. Brian would sometimes join us and other times he would come up with an excuse to why he cannot join us. Brian has been acting weird the past few days since Wiza and I started hanging out.
I promised I would help Audrey prepare for her departure to Malaysia which is in a week’s time. My boss finally allowed me to get some time off, I am off work until Wednesday which is five days from now. As crazy as my best friend is, I will surely miss her.
We are currently in Game stores at Manda hill looking for a suitcase and other things she needs before she leaves.
“I think that one is big enough.” I point at a black suitcase up on a shelf.
“Yes, but I think I will need two of those.” comes Audrey’s response.
“Girl, what do you wanna carry? These cases are so huge.” Knowing my best friend well she wants to carry all her belongings.
“Well, I want to carry all my clothes.” she says just like I had guessed. I roll my eyes skywards, there is no way on earth I am going to manage to convince her she does not need to carry all the things she owns.
“How is Wiza?” Audrey asks changing the topic.
“I think his okay.” I respond.
“You think? Are you guys not talking to each other?” she asks.
“Well, I have not spoken to him since Wednesday when he left for Ndola.” Audrey stops on her tracks and I turn around to look at her.
“Wednesday was two days ago babe.” she says with a concerned face.
“His busy with rugby and I do not want to be a bother.” I say as much as I hate not hearing from him because I have missed him so much.
Wiza and I have not spoken since he left on Wednesday. When he arrived in Ndola, he sent me a text saying they had arrived safely, and I have not heard from him since then. I have sent him messages and called him a couple of times, but he has not returned any of my calls or messages, so I figured he has been busy.
“If he breaks your heart while am away let me know.” Audrey says.
“What will you do all the way in Malaysia?” I ask.
“I will organize goons to jump him……….” Before she can finish her sentence, I stare at the person altering these words.
I am not surprised is she saying she will organize people to hurt him, she can do that. “I am joking.” she says.
“I would never put it past you babe.” I tell her, and she bursts out laughing.
“I am kidding, I will not have your boyfriend beaten.” she chuckles. “Are you guys official now?” she asks.
“Excuse me!” she calls out to a gentle man in the store uniform.
“Yes Miss.” the man responds politely.
“Could you please assist me with two of those cases.” Audrey points at the suitcases we saw earlier.
“Sure, thing let me get the ones in the back stores and bring them to you.” he says then excuses himself.
“So, are you?” she turns to me.
“He has not asked me. Perhaps that is why he has gone MIA on me. Maybe he is bored of me already.” I say doubting myself, I know nothing about being a girlfriend.
“That is not a reason for him to be quiet. Besides you guys have been hanging out and spending too much time together, is that not being in a relationship?” Audrey asks.
“No, he is supposed to ask me out and make things official. Perhaps he is not interested in me.” I shrug.
“Oh, please it’s clear to everyone how you are both into each other. You two are always shoving your tongues down each other’s throat all the time you are together.” We both laugh and get the attention of the old couple next to us.
The gentleman that had gone to fetch the suitcases returns with two huge suitcases in a trolley.
“I am sorry miss, we only have black left in store.” He explains.
“That is okay, I will take these. Thank you.” Audrey says to him.
“You are welcome.” he says then excuses himself.
We proceed to the check-out counter and pay for the suitcases after we have called Audrey’s mum’s driver to pick us up. We head back to her place and start packing a few of the many things she wants to carry.

Wiza’s POV
I pick up my phone from next too me and stare at the messages Nandi had sent to me a few days ago. I have been so busy with training and the games that I have not had time to respond to her messages. I last spoke to her on Wednesday before coming to Ndola for the games.
I am into her and like her so much but at the same time I am clueless about what to do. I enjoy every moment I spend with her, she makes me forget the pain that exists in this world. Her hugs and kisses make me feel special, she is magnificent and so is her personality. She is an amazing girl and deserves so much but I am not sure I am the guy that can give her that. This world is ugly, and I do not want to mess things up for her.
“What are you doing man?” Martin asks me.
“Nothing just thinking about someone.” I say hoping he leaves me alone.
“Oh, I see, you are missing that girl that is always with Brian.” he says.
Why does Martin always have to butt into other people’s business?
“Always with Brian?” I ask.
“Yeah, did those two not date or something?” just then the bus comes to a stop in Kabwe for us to stretch our legs and use the bathroom.
We are on our way back to Lusaka from Ndola. The games ended yesterday, and we had a celebratory night until early this morning. The coach allowed us to rest before we checked out of the hotel and started off.
Martin gets off his seat and leaves the bus. Just then my phone vibrates in my hand, a message from Nandi.
Hey, how did the games go? I bet you won despite not having your lucky charm there. I have really missed, you have not spoken to me since you left on Wednesday. I guess you have been busy. Anyway, later xoxo.
I want to respond to her text, I want to call her and hear her sweet voice, but I cannot, forget what Martin just said and his words keep playing in my head.
“that girl that is always with Brian, did those two not date or something?”
I just plug my headphones in and listen to music for the rest of the way until we arrive in Lusaka after 3pm. I am so exhausted to go home and deal with my father who hates me playing rugby and saying it shall not take me anywhere.
I call my cousin and ask him if I can go to his apartment in mass media. Nandi has been on my mind the whole afternoon. I cannot ignore the thoughts of her anymore, so I decide to pay her a surprise visit.
If I do not find her that is cool, least I know I would have tried to see her. Josh said I could use his VW Golf to go to Nandi’s. I take a quick shower and change into a pair of black jeans, a white t-shirt and black vans then leave to see Nandi.
I knock on the door once and it swings open before I knock the second time. A woman that looks like she is in her mid-40s is standing in front of me. She is wearing a simple red dress that falls below her knees, sandals on her feet and she has a bit of makeup on her face. Her long hair is neatly pulled back.
She is beautiful I must admit. In the very moment I see the resemblance to Nandi she must be her mother, she is too old to be her sister.
“Good afternoon young man, how may I help you?” she asks cheerfully.
I clear my throat and straighten up. “Good afternoon ma’am. I am here to see Nandi, is she home?” I ask hoping she will not turn me away or inform me that Nandi is not home.
To my surprise she smiles then ushers me into the house.
“Come in. Take a seat I will get her shortly.” she leads me to the living room and excuses herself to get Nandi I hope.
This is the first time I have entered their house, every other time I come around I end at the doorstep when saying my goodbyes to Nandi.
I look around the living room which is nicely decorated with many beautiful family photos. As I am admiring the photos, Nandi walks in.
“Hi, what are you doing here?” she sounds more shocked to see me than I had expected.
“I came to see you. I could leave if you do not want me to be here.” I say a little sad. I have to leave before I have even looked at her beautiful face properly.
“No, you do not have too, I was just not expecting you.” she shrugs her shoulders.
She sits down on the couch next to me. She is wearing grey shorts, a black plain t-shirt and her hair tied up all messy. I have never seen Nandi dressed like this all cozy in her own space. Her face looks like she has just woken up.
I smile.
“Did you just get back?” she asks, and I nod my head.
“How did it go? Are you not exhausted?” Before I could answer her questions, her mom walks in,
“Can I get you kids anything to eat or drink?” she politely asks.
“Do you want anything?” Nandi asks me.
“No thanks I am okay.” I respond.
“Are you sure?” Nandi asks.
“Yes, I am okay.” I reassure her.
“Okay, let me change then we can head out.” Nandi get off the couch and leaves heading in the same direction she came leaving me alone with her mom.
“So, are you my daughter’s boyfriend?” she asks with a smile.
Oh my goodness, did she just ask me that?
“Mom!!!!!!!!!” We both hear Nandi shout from her room.
“So, are you?” this time she whispers so that Nandi does not hear her.
“Ahhh…well….” Before I can come up with a response Nandi walks in glares at her mother. If looks can kill people, Nandi would have just killed her own mother.
She grabs my wrist, “Let us go.” she says leading me out through the front door.
“I was only trying to get to know your friend better.” her mom says as we leave the house.
I cannot help myself but laugh at what just happened.
Nandi asks me something, but I do catch it, I am dumb struck staring at what she is wearing. A floral top with long sleeves which exposes her bare shoulders as well as a bit of her waistline, a demine skirt with a slit up to her thigh. Her braids are untied and loose falling on her back. She does not have any makeup on but looks very beautiful.
“Hey.” she snaps her fingers in my face.
“Sorry did you say something?” I ask.
“Did you use Ulendo?” she asks.
“No.” I shake my head. I start walking towards the golf “My cousin allowed me to take his car.” I open the front passenger door and she folds in.
I go round and get into the driver’s seat. We both buckle up before I start the engine.
“Where do you want to go?” I asks her
“Anyway, just not here.” she says.
“Okay.”
I drive out of the premises and head straight back to Josh’s apartment in mass media. I cannot help but take several glances at Nandi. She is so relaxed as I drive. Her exposed thighs are not doing any justice to me. my d**k keeps twitching whenever I look at her.
She has not noticed anything, she is telling me about how she spent yesterday with Audrey packing some of the things she will be carrying to Malaysia.
We finally get to our destination and I usher Nandi into the house. The house is empty, Josh mentioned he was heading out just as I was leaving to go see Nandi. I lead her to the living room and we both sit on the couch next to each other. I put my arm around her shoulder, and she voluntarily lets her head rest on my shoulder.
“Do you want anything to drink?” I ask.
“I am okay thank you.” she responds.
“Anything to eat?”
“Nope.”
“Okay.”
“You were awfully quiet the past days, what happened?” she asks a question I have no proper explain for.
“I am really sorry for that, I was so occupied with training and the games.” I kiss her forehead and she shifts in my embrace to face me.
“I missed you.” the moment she says those words I struggle with everything within me. I just want to hold her tight in my arms and lavish her with kisses. It’s like she has read my mind because she immediately presses her soft lips against mine.

Nandi’s POV
When mom woke me up, to inform me that there was a young man looking for me. She was all smiles and confusing me who had just woken up from a deep slumber. I rubbed my eyes as I got out of the bed wondering who is here looking for me on a Saturday afternoon. Only Brian ever comes home on a weekend, but he always informs me before he comes by.
When I get to the living room and see who is sitting on our couch I fail to believe my eyes. What is Wiza doing here?
I have missed him so much and who would have thought he would surprise me with a visit on a Saturday afternoon. He did mention he would be back from Ndola on Saturday, but I did not think he would come straight to see me.
I want to jump on him and tell him how much I have missed him but, but my mom is standing here and being all weird.
“Hi, what are you doing here?” I ask. I am very shocked he is here, am I still sleeping and dreaming that he is sitting on our couch?
“I came to see you. I could leave if you do not want me to be here.” He says sound sad.
“No, you do not have too, I was just not expecting you.” I shrugs my shoulders.
I sits down on the couch next to him.
He smiles. I missed his smile and would always imagine him smiling at me when I missed him.
“Did you just get back?” he nods his head after I ask.
“How did it go? Are you not exhausted?” I bomber him with questions then mom walks in,
“Can I get you kids anything to eat or drink?” she politely asks. She is trying so hard to eavesdrop on our conversation.
“Do you want anything?” I ask Wiza.
“No thanks I am okay.” He says.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I am okay.” He says.
“Okay, let me change then we can head out.” I get off the couch after realizing what I am wearing. Mom is still standing close by, lord please restrain her from doing anything funny.
“So, are you my daughter’s boyfriend?” I hear her ask when I enter my room.
“Mom!!!!!!!!!” I shout from my room as I grab the nearest clothes I can find.
I change as quick as I can and rush out of the room to rescues Wiza from my mom. I will end up single if she behaves like this with every guy that comes home.
Wiza drives us to his cousins apartment in mass media. The whole way there I can feel him glancing my direction. I cannot help myself but be nervous about the way he is looking at me.
The skirt I grabbed has a long slit exposing a lot of my thigh. Wiza is a guy, and I am sure he is feeling whatever it is they feel when a girl is dressed the way I am. Lord help me.
After getting to the apartment in mass media, I ask him why he was quiet while he was in Ndola. He apologizes saying he was busy with training and the games. In the moment he is explaining himself I am thinking about nothing else but to kiss him.
I missed kissing him while he was away as well as spending time with him. Our relationship is not yet defined but I am sure of one thing.
I want to be with him. Date him or anything.
I fail to hold myself back and slam my lips on his kissing him hungrily. For the first few seconds he is still and just when I am about to pull back he kisses me back. He lifts me and positions me on his laps while his hands wrap around my waist. My hands make their way to his neck as we continue devouring each other’s lips.
His lips nudge for permission and I part my lips granting him access. His tongue meets mine and they both move in sync. The kiss is so passionate and consuming, we have never kissed each other like we are doing so right now.
I need air.
I break away from his lips, if I had not done so soon I was going to pass out.
“Wiza can I ask you something?” I ask once I catch my breath.
“Sure, what’s up?” he responds.
“I am just wondering what we are calling this…..” I fail to complete my question.
“What do you mean?” he asks me all confused.
“People keep asking me if we are dating of if we are a couple and I do not know what to tell them.” I manage to say. Mainly it is only Audrey and Brian who have asked me.
“Do not think too much into what people say or ask. Only think about what you want.” He says then finds my lips again.
This time he is not just stuck on my lips but trails off down my neck smothering me with kisses.
I feel his hand on my bare thigh as it makes it’s way up my inner thigh as he sucks on my collar bone. Heat spreads across my body with every kiss and touch. My neck arches backwards giving him more access.
With his free hand he starts to lower my top in the front exposing my black strapless bra. His other hand is still in my inner thighs and making its way to my core. Whatever he is doing is making me feel strange but in a good way. I feel my lace underwear get wet, and in that moment I know it is time to stop whatever we are doing.
But how do I stop something I am enjoying. He squeezes my left breast, and a moan escapes my lips. He continues playing with my breast. The other hand finds it’s way under my underwear to my core. The moment he touches me I freak out.
“Stop!!!” I shout instantly getting off his laps. Wiza gets off the couch, I startled him.
“What’s wrong?” he asks.
I start walking away from him and he follows me.
“Babe, what’s wrong you are worrying me?” he asks.
“Nothing.” I say.
Wait did he just call me babe?
“Are you sure?” he asks.
“Yes!” I turn around and look at him.
He looks confused, I am more confused from him not answering my question to us almost having s*x on his cousin’s couch.
“Talk to me. Did me touching you make you uncomfortable?” he asks. “If you do not want me to touch you, that is fine I will not do it.”
I have no words. I just shake my head and look everywhere but at his face.
“Let’s sit.” He suggests.
We both sit down, and he puts something for us to watch. After a while he orders some take out which is delivered within half an hour.
As much as I want to sit here with him and watch movies, I need to go home before my mother starts blowing my phone. The sun has set, and I need to get home.
“I need to get going before mom sends a search party.” I say which makes him laugh.
“No problem, let me just pee before I take you.” He says with a smile.
“Sure.”
“I’m sorry for freaking out earlier.” I apologize.
We are seated in the car parked outside my house.
“It’s fine, I was a bit too forward.” he says while brushing his fingers on my chin before he leans in and kisses me gently.
“I missed you so much and got carried away. I promise to not do anything you are not comfortable with.” he says in between kisses.
“I missed you too.” I smile.
The front door swings open and that is my que to leave.
“I will call you later.” I tell him before I get out of car. He waves at me then drives off.
“Who was that?” my dad asks while standing in the doorway.
“A friend.” I respond as I quickly make my way passed him. I bet he is going to tell my mom about this, and she will tell him about Wiza coming over earlier.
Since supper is already cooked I head to the shower to take a shower before sitting down to have supper with my family. I need to call Audrey and tell her about my eventful afternoon.
