Brent's expression gave me instant butterflies, his jaw was clenched, and his eyes were burning. I'd have paid to see the visuals he was playing over in his mind right now. The intensity of his gaze was making me squirm, and I put down the ridiculous headband. It was humorous, and I only meant to make Brent laugh asking for one. Now here he was scorching me where I stood. I wouldn't be surprised if I were to go up in flames. "There's Anthony; it looks like he finally found her. I still don't think she should have been invited." Andre speaks up, breaking the trance between Brent and me. Brent clears his throat and looks off in the direction Andre was motioning, "I told him it was chill; it's on me if she causes an issue." Curious, I turn to see for myself who they were speaking of.
I first spot Ant, he was standing at another booth, and I almost laughed out loud. He'd really gone way out of his comfort zone with his ensemble. Ant was typically known to sport clean lines, expensive suits, and always tailored to high heavens. I considered him to be OCD possibly. Here he was, though, wearing no shirt, a pair of neon orange electrical pants with black detailing, the same pair of boots Brent had on, and was that a chest harness? Holy s**t, it was! I'd known he was in good shape but had not realized just how good of shape. His chest was very well defined, and he had a six-pack. Good for him. He was both thinner and shorter than Brent and Andre, Andre, of course being the largest of the three. That man was built like a mac truck; he'd done well to wear all white. The black skull in the middle of his tee-shirt looking more like a cut out than a printed design. This speaking to how truly dark his ebony skin was.
Standing next to Ant was a stunning Hispanic woman with thick black curly hair. Like Brent, she was dressed in black head to toe. Her skirt was pleated and reminded me of a schoolgirl, but it had chains dangling on either side. She'd paired it with a black sleeveless crop and over it a chainlink bralette. Her legs were covered in ripped fishnet, and she was wearing the same but female version of the thick black combat boots. I must have missed the memo in shoe wear. She was gorgeous. There was no denying that. Catching sight of Brent, Ant says something to the woman, and they start making their way to join us. "At least she doesn't look as messed up as before," Andre says to Brent, slaps him on the back, and then turns to give Kenny a comforting snuggle.
Reaching us, the woman makes direct and unwavering eye contact with Brent, "Sup bitch." She says; her voice was deep yet feminine. Up close and personal, she carried the most intimidating energy I'd ever felt vibrate off a woman. The tone in her arms and shoulders were visible without her needing to flex. It was apparent that, like Brent, she spent a good portion of her time in a gym. Her build was that of a gymnast, broad shoulders, slim hips, and large toned thighs. Even her calves rippled with muscle. On her warm brown skin were scattered tattoos. One, in particular, caught my eye. The one on her forearm; a Queen sitting on a throne holding what looked to be some coin. Brent didn't blink, "Hello Lucianna." There definitely was some tension to be felt here.
I wasn't the only one feeling it. Kenny had positioned herself behind Andre. She was visibly anxious, now fidgeting with a pacifier, it was dangling from thin pieces of braided rope. Lucianna scoffs and crosses her arms; I found her stance interesting. She stood with her legs widely set apart. "Hey Tori, good to see you decided to make it out." Ant's statement startles me at first. I was so busy analyzing the silent yet very loud interaction between Lucianna and Brent unfold. It was most certainly an attempt by Ant to break the notable tensions. I decide to test something and mimick Lucianna's stance, "Ah, you know, had to see what all the talk was about. I'm still here, so I guess I'll stay." I say this adding a wink. The reason I'd found Lucianna's stance so intriguing was because I, too, stood this way. For me, though, it was more a defense mechanism. I used it to intimidate.
Lucianna laughs, "Where did you find this one?" Turning to Brent, she motions to me lazily. Straightening my shoulders, I take two large steps to be beside Brent. "Actually, I found him." Taking Brent's hand, I smile. "You were a curious little s**t that night. Snooping out one of my family's many homes." I squeeze his hand and then turn my eyes to Lucianna. She was giving me a slow nod, eyes squinted. "Cute." She was picking up on exactly what I was throwing. I was not one to be intimidated. She undoubtedly could beat my ass in a physical fight. But verbal sparring was my specialty, and I didn't fight clean. It could and would get ugly fast if she felt up to it. I raise a brow. "I know. We are, aren't we?" I go to grab the stupid headband I'd sat down and stick in on my head. Going back to Brent, I place my hand out palm up, "I've decided I want it."
"Anything for you, Princess," Brent pulls out his wallet and hands me the cash and then some. "Get the shoes too." He says, laying a kiss on my forehead. "Okie Dokie." I snatch the cash from Brent's fingers and turn on my heel to grab the shoes. Well aware of just how bratty I am appearing, I smile to myself. I didn't give a s**t. It wasn't jealously. Jealously was to assume I could lose. This was my competitiveness rearing its ugly head. I was accustomed to winning, and if I couldn't manage to do so fairly. There was always the money angle. One call to my Father, and I could pay anyone I wanted to do anything I needed to be done. Was it ethical? No, but as I said before. I fought dirty.
I pay the woman at the booth and slip my chucks off. I wanted to wear the new shoes right away. The fact they lit up made me exceedingly happy. I threw in a pacifier right before checking out. I'd chosen one that was hot pink and white with a rainbow at the center. It was adorable. I would get a lot of use out of it, even at home. I owned one once but lost it in my apartment somewhere. Placing it around my neck, I feel Brent come up from behind me; in my ear, he growls, "You were such a little brat for that.", gripping my right ass cheek in his hand, he jiggles it then lets it go only to then give it a swift and sharp slap. "I know," I say matter factly, adding a bratty shrug. Brent laughs, "She's fuming. She'll play it cool, but you definitely ticked her off. Be careful, though. Her temper is like if you took a fire tornado and a volcano and had them hate fuck." I couldn't help shake my head at the description. He sure had a way with words. He did not lack creativity.
"It's okay. I f**k back." I say, spinning around quickly. Leaping into the air, my knees meet my ass; when they come back to the ground, my new light-up shoes begin to spaz out. "Yassss! These are the s**t!" I squeal and hop in a place like a bunny on crack."Look! I"m a crack bunny!" I giggle and look up at Brent who's smile was currently taking up his whole face. "Crack bunny? I dig it." Kenny runs up and joins me. "Crack Bunnies!" She squeals. "Oh great, there's two of them." Lucianna groans adding in an eye roll. I continue to hop unbothered, flipping her the bird with both hands. "Hater," I say, sticking out my tongue in her direction. "Careful bunny, you're f*****g with a wolf." She snarls at me through gritted teeth. "Okay, okay, ladies. Let's try and mellow out a bit, huh? We're all here for a good time, right?" Ant says, arms outstretched. He was such a peacemaker for the one who usually got thrown out of clubs for fighting any young dude with a mouth. Curious. I think to myself.
"You got the stuff?" Ant directs the question towards Brent, who nods and pats his left pocket. "Yes, sir. I'm with you. Let's switch the vibe and start having some real fun." He answers with a wicked grin. "Drugs!" Kenny shouts. Andre throws his head back and begins to laugh. "B-Baby! Baby girl. Some furtiveness is required in this situation, my dear." Kenny giggles. "Furtiveness means to be secretive about something. That was the word for today, everyone." She says, poking Andre's side. Brent laughs. "Always did love that game. We used to play that too! I learned so many damn words!" Kenny smiles. "Me too! I love it. I did place a bet on this one, though. I really didn't think he'd be able to fit it in. We have no secrets!" She says the look on her face was of mock surprise. "Good job Daddy, I guess you're just too smart for me!" Andre rolls his eyes, "No. You love spankings." He says, shaking his head and slapping Kenny's ass. "She loves spankings." He adds. Kenny bites her bottom lip. "Yeah. Yeah, I do." She admits with an adorable shrug.
"Alright ya freaks, can we get this show rolling. Like literally, I'm ready to be f*****g rolling." I hadn't noticed, but Lucianna was under Ant's arm now. Were they together? That would explain Ant's behavior earlier and the harness. I was starting to put two and two together, and it was definitely something I would talk to Brent about later. If my hunch were bad intuition at work, then I would need more information to rectify it. Brent was sure to know. He didn't seem to be bothered by it since I'd also intuitively figured this was also the ex he'd been talking about back in the Uber. Brent had known me long enough to distinguish that I had a sharp mind. I didn't need a lot of explaining or even follow up. I didn't like to assume, but with how many times my assumptions had been right in the past. Assume I did. I didn't voice it, but I did log it away as factual in my mind. Then when someone tried to tell me my hidden assumptions were true, I would reply, "I know."
I'd done it so often with Brent that he stopped going to over-explain things as he adapted to do over time with others. We have never openly spoken about this, but I knew he appreciated it. I myself appreciated that he didn't call me out for being a "know it." He excepted it as a part of who I was. Smiling, I look to him now. He was leaned over Ant, talking in a low voice. "Yeah, cool. Alright. Let's do that," Ant says, nodding towards Andre. "Back of the booth. I'll buy us some waters." Andre gives a thumbs up and guides Kenny to walk around to the back of the booth. "Oh boy. This is going to be fun." She squeals. Brent grabs my hand. "You too, Princess." He says, following behind Andre. I felt like I was back in high school going behind the bleachers at a game to smoke the weedy deedy. I laugh to myself, remembering my coined phrase. It got around my school so fast what I called it, that it became a game. It was called "Let's make a Weedy Deedy." After "Let's Make a Deal,"
I cringe at the thought of High School. Not great times for me. I was popular, of course. Money always guaranteed an influx of fake and attractive friends. Silly me for thinking they'd been real. I was Regina George but with a splash of mental illness. Although I never did get involved with cheerleading, I'd felt I was above it. I refused to fake a smile for anyone, no matter how much attention it guaranteed me. I was a b***h, yes, but I was never a fake b***h. I didn't participate in bullying, but I never made any move to stop it either. I only lived my life the way I knew how. Privileged, with nothing but the world at my feet. It was true what they said of bullies; they did it to make themselves feel better. I didn't need to do that; I was better. I questioned if I was narcissistic. It was possible. Considering who my mother was, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. At least that's what they say.
We reach the back of the tented booth. Andre, Kenny, Brent, and I stand in a small tight circle. "You sure you want to do this, Princess?" Brent asks me, squeezing my hand. "Yep," I answer. I was sure. I almost did Molly once a few months back but had watched a friend freak out on it the same night and decided against it. But Ecstacy seemed to be a safer option. I'd stopped smoking weed a year ago; I felt like I depended on it to feel normal. I was completely substance-free, so one night wouldn't take away from anything for me. "This isn't suspicious," Lucianna says, joining the circle. A moment later, so does Ant with a large plastic bag of bottled waters. "Everyone takes one, and I will go get more later." He says, placing the bag on the ground into the center of the circle. Bowing down, both Andre and Brent pick up two bottles. Then Lucianna, Ant pick up their own.
Brent digs into his pocket, taking out a plastic baggie with small pink colored pills. With his fingers, he takes out one pill at a time and places them in the hands of everyone in the circle. "Should take like 30 mins." He says to me placing mine in my hand. "Drink the whole water bottle when you take it." Throwing it back, I go to chug the water. "That's my girl," Brent says, throwing his back once I was finished with my water. Once everyone had taken theirs, we all stood silently for a moment. "Are we there yet?" Kenny asks in her little alter. "I will turn this car around!" Andre says, wagging his finger at Kenny. Everyone laughs at the comical relief before making our way back to the front side of the booth. "We all should be amongst the other people when this s**t hits," Andre says, making a beeline for the crowd.
It had grown monstrous! We were the only ones beside a few others sprinkled here and there in front of the booths. Everyone else was up near the music. Brent bends down in front of me. "Uppies!" He motions for me to jump up on his back. "Yay! Uppies!" I holler back, backing up to make a running jump. Taking me from his back to his shoulders, Brent follows after Andre and Kenny. Kenny looks back to see me on Brent's shoulders and stops Andre to point. "Uppies! Uppies! Uppies!" She squeals. Andre looks back and laughs. "Alright, Baby girl. Uppies it is." Instead of bending down, Andre deadlifts Kenny in a sitting position and places her on his shoulders. "Okay! Show off! f**k you!" Brent yells. Coming up beside them, Kenny giggles and reaches out to me.
"So this is what it feels like to be tall?!" Kenny asks, looking down at Andre's face between her thighs. "Enjoy it, Baby girl!" He says, repositioning her with his shoulders. "Race?" Brent asks. "Oh hell yeah!" Andre says, getting in position. "Hold on, Princess." Brent goes Andre. "Oh, this I've got to see!" Lucianna says She and Ant were now beside Brent and me. She goes to stand between us and puts her hands in the air. "Ready! Set.." She starts off "GO!" Kenny squeals and Andre takes off full speed. "Hey! Cheater!" Brent Hollars taking off. Gripping down with my thighs, I squeal. "Oh s**t!" The wind hits my face as Brent runs towards the crowd of dancing bodies. Damn, he was fast! This was going to be a night to remember!
