Chapter 10

"Jace Patterson."Jace spoke into a small box situated in front of a gigantic iron gate as he entered a narrow driveway. I watched in amazement as the the gates opened within seconds of him stating his name.We drove a little distance again passing outstanding trees that swayed gently on both sides of the vehicle before the house came into view. The house, rather the mansion, loomed gloriously ,outshadowing everything else that was at least a few feet away.It was surrounded by an extraordinary garden that consisted of a variety of popular flowers.Placed directly at the centre stood a beautiful  marble fountain. The architecture pouring clear water out in a graceful manner. It felt like déjà vu all over again, just like when my mom and I went to meet my dad just a few days ago. If I thought that house was huge well I was clearly in for a surprise for it was like a tiny shack  when compared to this one. "Are you coming or not?"Jace asked impatiently.                                      He was standing at the shimmering glass front door, his hands on the buzzer , impatiently waiting for me .I was so caught up in admiring the house that I hadn't even realised he was already out the car. Something was definitely wrong with him, there was no more sign of the playful Jace, almost as if he had vanished into thin air. I wonder what had him on edge so much,so far I had a hunch that it had something to do with his mother, ever  since I mentioned her in the vehicle a while back now  he seemed tense all over. I walked over to him slowly, totally ignoring the annoyed  look he was giving me at the moment, I was not going to allow myself to be intimidated by him anymore. If he wanted me to walk faster that was his problem not mines. That's right buddy, deal with it! However I soon regretted my decision as he opened the door and slammed it shut in my face a few seconds before I reached it. Damn it!Did he always have to win? Taking a deep breath I started to knock on the door, not stopping for a second, if he wanted to act like a child and lock me out of the house well two could play at that game! Finally I heard the snap of the door unlocking and it opened slightly. "You jerk! Why do you always have to—". "Excuse me?" A woman about the age of fifty-five asked with her hand on her chest , clearly surprised at my language. I stared at the lady in front of me feeling my cheeks heat up. Clearly she wasn't Jace ! He had managed to make a fool out of me yet again. "I am very sorry Ma'am , I thought you were—". Behind of the lady leaning against a painting was none other than the devil himself, Jace! "I'll get you back for this you—" "I beg your pardon?"the lady asked again in shock. "Oh I'm so sorry, you see , um, I thought you were —"I didn't know what to say, this lady would probably hate my guts from now on! Way to go Leah! I narrowed my eyes as I saw him chuckle.Well there you have it, his playful mood was definitely back. "Its okay grandma, that's Mr.Rose's daughter Leah."He explained walking over to give her a kiss on the cheek. Her eyes widened, looking at me warily . "Hi."I greeted her shyly. "Hi dear, its nice to finally meet you."she said smiling kindly. "May I come in?" I asked unsure. "Oh sorry sweetie, of course, make yourself at home." I walked in and was greeted by a large central hallway.I looking around the house in awe, it was definitely the most beautiful house I'd ever laid my eyes on.The interior was a magnificent work of art that must of been designed by the very best professionals in housing design. The paintings alone must have cost a fortune. Not to mention the furniture, this place was like a palace, the walls looked like it had just been painted yesterday which I was sure it wasn't.The refined beauty of the tiled floors was nothing compared to the ceiling staring down from above. My favourite inspection of the house happened to be the 92 inch flat screen and stereo.I loved music and spent most of the time with a head set in my ear. That was until my eyes settled on the pool outside of course, I always wanted a pool in my home. Now was the time for that dream to come true. I turned around excited to explore the rest of the house. Jace was looking at me completely amused by my behaviour . "What?" "It seems like you really like the house."he said pleased . I flushed, realising I was probably acting a little too excited for my own good. "Well it is a nice house."I managed to say. "Sweetheart, you're here." Before I had a chance to say anything I was already in my mom's strong embrace. "Hi mom, happy mother's day."I replied, returning her hug. She smiled , her eyes falling on Tue bags in my hand. "What are those?" she asked curiously. "These are for you."I said smiling brightly. "Oh sweetie , you didn't have to."my mom said smiling at me. "Mom, please, don't start, you're the best mom ever you deserve a reward for all your hard work." "And you're the best daughter ever."She chimed pulling me in for a hug. She opened the bags and I had the delight of seeing her eyes widen and brighten at the presents. "I must say though that the gifts came from Jace's pocket."I added quickly. My mother's head snapped up as her eyes widened at me. "What?"she asked even though I was sure she heard me the first time. "I forgot I didn't walk with any money and I went out to buy you presents but didn't have any money and he went and bought it for me."I explained in a rush. "Sweetie you have to give him back his money."My mother replied. "Its fine Ma'am, you don't have to pay me back, consider it a gift from me."Jace said smiling at my mom. "Oh well aren't you just the sweetest handsome boy ever."my mom replied warmly. Really? If only you knew mom, if only you knew. He was anything but sweet, but my mom didn't know that. "You've made it."Someone said curtly. I turned to see Bridgette standing next to Jace . Where was my dad? "Hi."I replied , my voice was supposed to come out kind but I'm sure that wasn't how it came out. "Make yourself at home, I'm sure my son was a good company, after all he is the —" "Just save it mom, I have to attend a meeting now, it was nice meeting you ma'am."He said looking at my mom. "The pleasure was all mine and please call me Marianne." He nodded his head and walked out , leaving Bridgette standing there alone in shock. Well that definitely cleared out my suspicion of something going on between them.
