I led Navy back down the elevator, to the ground floor where the library was.
“My family is a relatively new Alpha line. My grandfather was the first Alpha of Blue Moon. He was already a grown man with one son, my father. My grandparents migrated down from Canada where there was an overpopulation of wolves. The Council requested that some of the larger packs send members to form new packs in the states. My father came down with about 100 werewolves from different packs and formed Blue Moon here in Eureka.” I was talking mostly to myself, thinking aloud, and was unsure if Navy was really focusing or understanding what I was saying. I continued on my ramble anyway,
“There was a small packhouse already here and my grandparents saved any information or records they could find about the previous pack that was here. They couldn’t get the Council to tell them anything about it. We keep those in the archives section of the library.” I led Navy to the back of the library where a locked door safeguards the archives.
I pulled out my keys and unlocked the door, motioning Navy inside. I flicked on the lights and started walking around the room, trying to find the right date.
“What are you looking for?” Navy asked.
“I’m wondering if it’s possible that your grandma’s mate came from the pack that used to live here.” I said. I wasn’t sure if such a coincidence was even possible, but something was telling me that it was.
Eventually, I found the records from just before my grandfather came here, which would have been around the time that Navy’s grandmother was the Luna with her Alpha mate, Quinton. I pulled out the large, leather bound book and began to thumb through the pages. It was more of a photo album than a record book, with dates, names, and the number of pack members written next to the pictures.
“Look.” I waved Navy over and sat the book down on the desk, shining the desk lamp over the picture.
“January 1960, Alpha Quinton Marshall turns 18 and takes over the position from his father.” I read the caption of a black and white photograph of a young looking man.
“No way.” Navy gasped. Next to the picture was information about the condition of the pack upon Alpha Quinton’s take over. I turned the page and there was another large picture with Alpha Quinton and a young woman with a startling resemblance to my own mate.
“June 1960, Alpha Quinton meets his mate, Cordelia, and she becomes the Luna.” I read off the caption. Navy ran her fingers across the picture,
“That’s my grandmother.” She whispered.
“You look just like her.” I said, studying my mate’s face. The page went on to detail Cordelia’s Luna ceremony. I turned the page and noticed jagged tear marks in the binding and the rest of the pages were blank.
“Someone ripped out the last page.” I said, running my hand down the binding.
“Who would do that?” Navy asked, looking at me with her wide, blue eyes.
“The Council? To try and hide what they had done.” I suggested.
“What if they find out about me, Knox?” Navy’s voice shook. I closed the book and pulled her close to me,
“I promise you, nothing like this will ever happen again. My pack won’t allow it and neither will any other pack. Alphas are being mated outside the species all the time now, they would have an uprising on their hands.” I told her, rubbing my hands up and down her arms to try and comfort my mate.
“How do you know?” her eyes were pleading with me.
“Listen, just last year an Alpha in Washington, not too far from here, was mated to a fae. Actually, rumor has it, the fae princess. She’s no different than you.” I said, retelling the news I had heard a few months ago about the Silver Moon pack in Anacortes, Washington.
“Really?” She asked, a glimpse of hope flashing across her face.
“Really.” I smiled at her reassuringly. I felt her relax in my arms.
My expression went blank as Clay mindlinked me asking where we were. He wanted to meet the new Luna.
“Navy, how would you feel about meeting my Beta and Gamma?” I asked her. She shrugged her tiny shoulders,
“I guess so.” She said, I smiled at how strong my mate was being.
“We can meet them in my office, that way you’ll know where to go if you need to find me there.” I said, taking her hand. If I wasn’t by my mate’s side, chances are I was in my office doing work for the pack or for the business. I wanted her to be able to find me no matter what.
I showed her to the second floor where the conference room and offices were. I decided not to show her her office yet, not wanting to put too much pressure on her about becoming the Luna. At the moment, I was more focused on her agreeing to stay and be my mate.
Clay, Dover, Julia, and Natasha were already waiting for us in my office. I had told them over the mindlink to behave or else there would be hell to pay. The girls were sitting on the large, cushioned chairs trying to contain their excitement while Clay and Dover stood behind them.
Dover was the most eager to meet Navy and the first to greet her. I given them all very strict orders to only call her Navy and not the title Luna.
“It’s nice to finally meet you, Navy,” Dover reached out his hand to shake hers, instead of the traditional bow,
“I’m Dover, the Gamma.” Navy timidly shook his hand.
“And I’m the Beta and also Knox’s brother, Clay.” Clay introduced himself next.
“This is my mate, Julia, and Dover’s mate, Natasha.” He said, motioning towards the ladies who scurried over to meet my mate. They each gave her a quick hug.
“It’s so good to meet you! I hope you like your room.” Julia was practically bouncing.
“Oh, I do, it’s very nice, thank you.” Navy smiled, nodding poliety.
“Okay, I think that’s enough for one day. My mate’s had a long day.” I shooed them all away and took Navy to the dining hall for some food.
