Chapter 3: Knox

“This is childish. You should take her advice and just reject her. She’s obviously not interested in you. Move on and pick a strong Luna.” My father was dangerously close to meeting his end. “I will not.” I growled, echoing Alistair’s complaints. “You’re being a child.” Alto huffed. “I’m respecting the Moon Goddess, unlike you.” I snapped. “Excuse me?” “You betrayed the Moon Goddess by not waiting for your destined mate and, instead, sentenced you and mom to a lifetime of unhappiness. I won’t be like you and I won’t do that to any woman.” I glared at my father, daring him to argue with me. He grumbled at me but remained silent. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a lunch meeting to attend.” I left my father alone in my office to meet my siblings in the sunroom for lunch. Clay was already there with his mate, Julia, along with Jenna and her mate, Mason. Meredith arrived at the same time as me. I greeted all of my siblings and their mates with a hug or a handshake before taking my seat at the table. The staff soon entered carrying silver trays of food. “Is father still giving you a hard time?” Jenna asked, folding her napkin on her lap. “Of course.” I groaned. “Any updates on your mate situation?” Meredith asked with a giggle. I rolled my eyes at her mockery, “Yes, if you must know, I met with her two days ago.” My sisters and Julia shared a high pitched outburst. “And?” Meredith pressed for more. “And nothing. That’s it.” I shrugged, playing it casual. Clay and Mason shared a look, shaking their heads at me in unison. “Let’s talk about something else.” I mumbled, diving into the salad the staff had prepared. “Well, Mason and I have some news.” Jenna grinned. “Okay?” I asked absentmindedly. “We’re pregnant!” Jenna squealed, earning another shriek from Julia and Meredith. I raised my eyebrow at the girls and their volume. “Congratulations, sis.” I smiled at her, truly happy for her and Mason. “We’re so excited!” She giggled. I reached across the table and shook Mason’s hand. “Do Mom and Dad know?” I asked. “Yeah. Mom is thrilled.” Jenna’s smile faltered a little at my question and I noticed that she didn’t say anything about our father. Internally, I cursed at him for ruining this moment for his daughter, externally, I said nothing.
