~ JOHN-PAUL ~ Despite the late night the night before, JP woke early. He wasn’t surprised. He hadn’t slept deeply, half his mind always on alert for the sound of another intruder. When he rolled over at six thirty and realized he’d been staring at the wall long enough to watch the light grow from near-black, to dim pink, he knew there was no point waiting. Careful not to jostle Lark, he picked up his phone from the nightstand and sent Tomas a text. He wasn’t sure how much his brother had had to drink the night before—and it sounded like he’d gone out on the prowl after he left JP’s. He probably wouldn’t be awake.
