~ LARK ~ Lark stood in the lobby with her father and brothers. Jordan and a handful of the Baptiste cousins just happened to be there also, spread around in pairs or on their phones, looking intimidating, but disengaged. Lark smiled when Jordan caught her eye and winked. But then her father stepped between them and Lark’s smile faded. She still wasn’t sure what to make of his mood. He hadn’t been cruel. If anything, he’d seemed indifferent. Anna and the Baptistes had kept Lark completely away from her family until everyone was seated for the lunch and it was unavoidable that she would have to walk in with her father and brothers. She’d been horribly nervous, wondering how her dad was going to react to her fleeing—and taking Adam with her. But he’d only looked her up and down, comp
