5 My hip bumped against the kitchen counter and jostled the phone in my pocket. All that talk of my mom had surfaced more than a little homesickness. Even though I’d only been there for a few days, that was the longest I’d been away from my mom in years. I set the plates to soaking in the sink and turned to rest my butt against the counter. With cell phone in hand, I pressed the speed dial button and listened to the familiar ring. A false baritone voice answered the phone. “Bob’s Roadside Burgers.
