The rays of sunlight tip-toed through the abandoned house, searching for the girls who took shelter in it the previous night. It first found the dark-skinned girl sleeping stiffly on a makeshift bed. Her dark curly hair was frivolously spayed on the surface she slept at. Her face looked peaceful but once, now and then, the skin between her thick bushy eyebrow could crinkle, bringing them together before it would even out again.
Not very far from her, laid the brunette on a big table. She had her back turned on her friend as she slept. She was deep in the sleep, seeing the dream playing on her eyelids.
Suddenly, a loud thud on the roof had them sitting up straight in alert. They looked at each other as they sat still and listened for more noises. After several moments had passed, they had finally decided to investigate the source of the sound.
Without making any sound, they stepped down on the floor before tip-toeing their way to the front of the house before. Just like last night, Orabelle took an attacking stance as Kiara reached to open the door. No one was outside which had them going out of the house and looking around.
After a couple of moments, they were successful in discovering the reason that had greeted them morning. A big branch from the nearby tree had hit the roof near the kitchen, knocking some of it inside the house.
With a relieved sigh, both of them walked into the house to decide what had to be done with the rest of the remaining day. They were tired. The constant running and worrying had driven the serenity far away from their existence. As much as staying in that abandoned house and resting for one more day sounded tempting, it was dangerous too.
If any hiker managed to stroll so deep into the woods and find them in the demolished house living by themselves, then it wouldn't take them long to find themselves in the hands of another group witch-hunters. Also, they were hungry. Their stomachs threatened them to eat their backbones would they fail to provide it with food.
With their bags, they had left for the small town nearby. They knew that a couple of other supernatural creatures lived there too, so there were chances waiting for them in the town to get some help.
The sun glared at them from the middle of the sky when the woods had started to thin out, marking the signs of civilization nearby. The hunger that had now started to eat their stomach was fueling the motivation for them to walk faster to the town.
When the sight of the town peaked at them through the few trees that were left between them and their destination, they had almost broken off into a run. Since the town attracted a good number of tourists, it added to their benefits when they had walked down the streets without receiving second glances from the natives.
Their empty stomachs roared with hunger at the sight of a small restaurant. Without any delay, they went in and ate as if it was their last time and to be fair, there was a fair chance that it could have been their last time eating because they were unsure of the future. All this time, their luck was by their side, favoring them but it wouldn't take it long when it would get bored of giving them chances to live. They knew how cruel luck could be because life had already given them enough chances to be met with the ugly face of it.
They had seen their friends and mothers die. It wouldn't be long when they'd be joining their beloved departed who watched over them from the skies.
After paying, they had stepped out of the small building in search of a job that would earn them the crispy papers to buy them food for their next meal. It didn't take them long to locate the local bar and their looks were enough for the manager to hire them at one glance.
With that, they had set out to look for a place to stay till night. At the favor of their luck, the old day at the small barn on the outskirts of the town had granted them a small room to stay for the night. They rested throughout the evening before setting out at night for work.
After being dressed in the scandalous clothes and applying two layers of makeup on their face, the girls were met with an intoxicated crowd. Orabelle got chosen to dance with a group of seductive belly dancers while Kiara was appointed to give lap dances to individual customers.
Orabelle's dignity screamed at her as her dress threatened to spill her breasts out of her tight blouse. It was choking her and her self-respect. As she took the small cloth that was set with the costume to cover the lower half of her face, she couldn't help but notice the irony of the situation.
The small cloth was there to keep her face and identity hidden regardless of all the salacious messages that her body sent to the onlooker. It left nothing to the imagination. It seemed like there weren't just enough clothes in the world to cover herself.
The cold air of the bar had her wrapping her arms around her almost naked body in an attempt to keep herself warm but her arms failed at it miserably. As the crowd roared with anticipation, she stepped on the stage with the rest of the female dancers.
Instantly, she felt lustful eyes, raping her with their sight. It made her feel disgusted but she didn't have any choice but to ignore them as she let the music take control over her. Even if it was for a few moments, it somehow always managed to fill her with serenity.
With her eyes closed, she let the music direct her body. Instantly she had forgotten all the stares and the people that watched her with lusting fascination. They wanted to get under the clothes without wanting to take risks to discover the treasure that laid under her skin.
Several moments into the performance, she felt something stir in the air. It buzzed with tension that sizzled when it came in contact with her skin. She felt a powerful presence in the room and all of a sudden, her existence seemed to gravitate to it.
Among all the pairs of the eyes that stared at her with lust, there stood the owner of another pair of eyes that stared at her with something more superior and powerful than lust. The intensity in them was so strong that her whole existence was screaming at her to open her eyes and have a look at the owner but she chose to ignore it as she ignored the rest of things in the room and concentrated hard on the music.
A loud, thundering growl had her snapping her eyes open and she was instantly met with a pair of deep blue eyes whose owner stood tallest among the whole crowd of intoxicated people. His eyes stared at her with possessiveness and something else that she wasn't familiar with yet.
She was dazzled when she moved her attention from his eyes and chose to look down at the rest of his existence. He was breathtakingly handsome. His blond hair was messed up on the top his head and the stubble on his face made him look manly.
She didn't realize when she has gotten distracted by him and stopped dancing. Her heart fluttered in her chest while several butterflies threatened to escape her stomach. She had forgotten to breathe as she stared back into his eyes.
She was met with the urge to go running to him but she didn't. A part of her dreaded the distance between them and wanted to eat it until she was standing close to him.
Her actions surprised her when she chose to spin on her heels and run in the opposite way. She heard another thundering growl behind her but she chose not to turn around and have a last look at the man who had filled her with desire after so many years.
She received some bewildered looks from her fellow dancers but she ignored them as the cognitive part of mind came into function and told her that the owner of those eyes was a wolf borne – the biggest enemy of her kind. She was well aware of the fact that they were participating in witch-hunting too.
The thought only flamed the panic inside her as she grabbed her and Kiara's belongings and sneaked into the private area to look for her friend. They had to flee then. She could feel the heaviness of the situation as the fine line between life and death had started to appear in front of her in the epitome of more wolf borne swarming the crowd of intoxicated people.
She broke into several rooms in search of her companion, causing a stir in the private are. She heard people cuss at her but she didn't have any second to spare by answering them back. When she couldn't find her friend, she cried out loud helplessly before choosing to leave alone.
Her heart was running faster than her due to her dress that restricted the fluidity of her actions. It was not meant to be worn while running from the wolf borne. It was meant to be worn and dance in- a fact that was instantly proven when Orabelle tripped on her feet and fell on the ground with a loud thud. She heard footsteps behind her in the hallway which lead her to get up instantly and run out of the bar.
It was freezing outside but she didn't have the chance to do anything about it because, at the moment, she was being chased. She heard another growl behind her which made her increase her speed.
She was barefooted and as she ran, small pebbles and other things greeted her feet's soft surface with a pain. She winced in pain but didn't have the change to stop and take them out of her feet. It seemed as if luck wasn't happy with her tonight. It was bored with giving her chances. Tonight, it was having fun with her as she was chased by the wolf borne.
Tears welled up in her eyes but she didn't let them out yet. She reached for the traveling sand in Kiara's bag but she didn't want to leave without her. She wouldn't do that with her friend.
After running across five deserted blocks, she found herself alone. No footsteps were following her so she stopped to catch up on her breath. To take cover, when she turned into the narrow alley next to the warehouse, she was met with darkness. She chose to stand there and come up with a plan to find Kiara.
Suddenly, fear rained down at her as the thought of the wolf borne already having Kiara in their possession struck here. She dropped the bags at her feet and stood straight at the thought. At the moment, she wanted to go back to the bar and see if they were still there – if she was still there.
She didn't realize that she was crying until tears trailed down her cheeks. She clutched her head, feeling overwhelmed by the situation. What should she do?
She was pulled out of her thoughts when a low growl had her turning towards the dark alley. There, two blue eyes blinked at her. They were the same form the bar. She could tell because they had the same intensity and effect on her but right now, her cognitive part of her mind was distorted with fear and anger as she pondered the chances of the wolves having her friend.
There was no way in the world, she would let them take her away. As the owner of the blue eyes stepped out of the darkness, she clenched her teeth and faced him fully. He was walking straight towards her while she stared back at him with vengeance.
He was close when she uttered a spell under her breath and flexed her arms out. His eyes grew big as she started to glow with a blue light.
"NO!" His deep voice rang out in the silence of the night before the brunette felt all the life drain out of her body. She was soon falling into the bottomless pit of unconsciousness.
The last thing she felt was sparks.
