“I am sorry, my Lord,” Jaela said, “I was so bemused by your fine horses.” The Earl did not seem to be appeased by her explanation as he was frowning as he lifted Kathy up onto the saddle of the pony. It was aptly called ‘Snowball’ because he was white. Kathy picked up the reins in quite an experienced manner and pleaded beguilingly, “Please, Papa, may I take Snowball for a ride?” “You are not dressed for riding,” the Earl reminded her, “but the groom could lead you a little way down the drive.” “I want to ride very very fast!” Kathy stated. “Not until I am quite certain that you can ride well,” the Earl said firmly. Kathy indicated to the young groom who had been holding the pony’s head that she was ready. They started and rode out of the yard. “I am riding! I am riding!” Kathy
