Chapter Five
One night, I came home to find a check in the mail. It was a bonus check from work, one that had taken so long in coming that I’d almost forgotten about it. I remembered my boss mentioning that a few of us would be getting some extra money for working so hard on this one project, but we’d finished it months ago. To me, it was just money falling out of the sky and into my lap.
When I opened the envelope and saw the amount, I smiled with excitement.
“We’re going out to dinner,” I told Justine after we greeted each other with kisses. “Any place you want. We can dress up, too.”
“Is it that much?” she asked, eyeing the envelope in my hand.
“It’s that much.”
