I couldn't believe what I was agreeing to. Twenty-five thousand dollars to pose as Gino's wife? It was a lot of money, but was it worth it? I wasn't sure. But as I looked into Gino's eyes, I saw something there that made me hesitate. Something that made me want to say yes.
Gino's eyes sparkled with amusement as he nodded. "Excellent. I knew I could count on you, Harriet. You're a smart businesswoman, and I know you'll do a great job."
I felt a flutter in my chest as he released my hand. "So, when do we start?" I asked, trying to sound casual.
Gino grinned. "We start tomorrow. I have a meeting with my partners tomorrow afternoon, and I want you to be by my side."
I nodded, trying to process everything that was happening. This was going to be a wild ride, but I was ready for it.
As we walked back to the office, Fiona caught up to us. "Hey, guys! What's going on?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Gino turned to her. "Harriet and I are getting married," he said, his eyes glinting with amusement.
Fiona's jaw dropped. "What?!" she exclaimed. "When did this happen?"
I rolled my eyes. "Just now," I said dryly.
Fiona turned to me, her eyes wide with excitement. "Oh my god, this is huge! You're going to be Mrs. Yarn!"
I shook my head, feeling a sense of unease creeping in. This was all moving so fast. I wasn't sure if I was ready for this.
But Gino just smiled and put his arm around my shoulders. "Don't worry, Harriet," he said softly. "We'll get through this together."
And with that, the deal was sealed. I was going to be Gino Yarn's wife, at least for the next few weeks.
As we walked back to the office, I couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. What would this fake marriage bring? And what would happen when it was all over?
But for now, I had no choice but to go along with it and see where this wild ride took me.
The next day arrived all too soon. Gino picked me up from my apartment and we headed to his office building. As we stepped out of the elevator and into the conference room, I felt a sense of trepidation wash over me.
The room was filled with suits and ties, all staring at us with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. Gino's partners were seated at the head of the table, their faces stern and unyielding.
Gino took his place at the head of the table and smiled at me. "Everyone, this is my wife," he said, his voice dripping with sincerity.
I felt like I was going to pass out as the room erupted into applause and congratulations. It seemed that everyone knew about our little arrangement already.
As we sat down at the table, Gino's partner's began to discuss the details of the merger. I listened intently, trying to keep up with the technical jargon and complex financial terms.
But my mind kept wandering back to Gino's words from last night - "Just be my wife for a few weeks." What did that mean? What did he want from me?
And what would happen when this was all over?
