I never thought about getting back to his home, not the castle, not his coven. No, his quarters were his home and I never thought getting back to it would make me feel relief. But as soon as the door shut behind us, and he set me down on my feet, I felt boneless, even a little delirious. I had requested our little outing, but now I was thinking maybe it would have been better to just stay put. I don't think I truly got out of it what I had wanted to. I now know who my pack was, what they had done. And I also knew that they started all of this. If they had just stopped, if they had just gone about ignoring a vampire's existence like they ignored us unless it was unavoidable, then maybe they would all still be alive. Or maybe, just, maybe. In years to come, a war would have broken out. B
