Jenny stepped forward. “Do you remember me, Mrs. Edwards? I’m Jenny Hershberger, but my name used to be Jenny Springer.” A strange look came over Chantrice’s face. “Jenny Springer? Jerusha Springer’s daughter?” “Yes, Mrs. Edwards, Jerusha’s daughter.” “But what are you doing here? And why do you have a picture of that quilt?” Elbert cleared his throat. “Can we come in, Mrs. Edwards? It’s important that we ask you some questions.” Chantrice looked from Elbert to Jenny and then to Bobby. “I know you. You’re Sheriff Halverson.” Bobby nodded. “That’s right, ma’am. And we really need to speak with you.” Chantrice looked at Elbert again and then opened the door and stepped aside. “The house is a mess,” she mumbled. “I wasn’t expecting visitors.” They went inside.
