"You know we have to talk about what happened." Cory says as we get out of the car. "What exactly happened?" I still can't believe he wants us to talk about that. I told him it happened, was a mistake we should both move on. He just doesn't get it. "We had sex." I fake a smile. "I know that." "And it felt so right." I raise my brow and laugh sarcastically. "It's s*x Cory, it always feels right." We are at the entrance of the bunker awaiting for them to let us in. Coffey's headquarters, or more of our office is in these safe bunker that's safely hidden away from town. It's like one of the safest place I know. "You know I can just talk to Kira and we can be together." I crease my brows. Okay, what? "Like hell you are, Don't you dare tell Kira what happened, it was a mistake, and it's never going to happen again." "But..." "No buts Cory, you're Kira's girlfriend I'm not going to try and get in between that, besides, I'm not into dating, and if I did, I'd definitely not date, for one a colleague and two someone as young as you." He nods. "Ouch! that didn't hurt my feelings at all." I know what happened between us was a mistake, that's so clear in the back of my head and I know I'm never letting something like that happen again. I know Cory always has this like deep desire for me and I shouldn't have let that happen, but I won't let him ride on it like it's going to happen again. But honestly, Cory has been tempting enough, and as much as I kept turning him down, I knew one way or the other this was bound to happen. Now that it's happened, I feel nothing. I know, it was just lust. My phone buzzes and when I check the caller ID, it's my brother. Of course he knows I'm back. I told him I'd be back by such a time. "Sankey." I take a step away from Cory. "Sis, you back?" "Yea." "How was the conference?" I clear my throat. "Good." I lied to Sankey that it was an emergency conference for the company out of the country and I had to leave immediately, he didn't believe me, but he bought it. "That's good, look, I know you're exhausted and all, but we need to go back home." He sounds worried. "Go back home? What do you mean?" "Dad is sick." Oh, again. I let out a sigh. It's not the first time he has been fake sick just to get me back home, it never worked. "And?" "What do you mean 'and' Cass? Dad is sick, he needs us." I shake my head. "And it's not one of his tricks." "Why would you say that?" "He's done it before." "Yea, once and he apologized, it's real this time." I really don't have time for this. "San, I'm kind of busy right now, let me call you another time." I want to hang up but he calls me. "Cass wait." "Sankey, I'm not going back to Pineville." I don't know why he never gets that. I moved on, I moved away, I'm so never turning back. And he knows that so well. "I know...but, he's our father." "He's not dying, look I have to go." "Fine, can I ask one favour?" I internally roll my eyes. "What." "I'm going to see dad, I can't go with Kimberly, I'll leave her with the nanny, but please take care of her." I let out a sigh. "You know I will." I hang up before he says anything else. I walk into the bunker and I can see Coffey and the other guys checking the gadget. Coffey has on this happy face. "Is it safe?" I ask as I walk down the stairs. "Very, I'm so proud of you two." I turn to look at Cory who's arm is around Kira's waist and I get this fuzzy feeling. He forces a smile. I don't know if anyone can tell, but something has definitely changed between us. "How did you get it Cass?" Kira asks and I shrug my shoulders. "You know, shot one or two guys, got kicked in the ass, then here we are." They both laugh when I say that. Kira is twenty two years old, she joined the gang a little late, she's been with us for like six months but she is a smart ass. And good at what she does. She's pretty too. "Am I allowed to check on the prisoner now?" I ask Coffey who lifts his eyes to look at me and frowns. "No." Oh come on. "I just want to question him." "Cass we've talked about that, the last time we let you torture someone, you killed them." I roll my eyes, we are back to that again. "It was an accident." "Cass you shot him in the head." Kira says and I turn to look at her angrily. This is none of her business. "As I said, it was an accident." "I think Coffey is right, you shouldn't be allowed to interrogate prisoners." Okay, she speaks one more time and I'm pulling off her hair. "You're not the boss of me Kira, why don't you just mind your own business?" She takes a step towards me and I know what she wants to do. Kira and I try to get along, at least for the sake of the respect we have for Coffey, but deep down we loathe each other. I think it's more of we envy each other. She hates that Cory has an eye for me yet he's dating her. As for me, I could care less. "Well if you didn't go killing everyone then I'd mind my own business." "Kira." Cory tries to stop her but she ignores him. I want to tell her something mean but I really don't have the time. I know that's what she wants, to make me look like the bad guy so that Coffey can withdraw me from the job. "Coffey, I have to go, give me a call when he talks." Coffey only nods. I love how he always acts calm when things get heated in the office. It's just funny how he never tries to intervene. "Yea, running away like the coward you are." Kira screams behind my back and I turn my mouth wide open. "Did you just call me a coward?" "That's right, you always act all bossy but you're only here because you're screwing Teddy." Oh. I let out an angry chuckle. "Is that right?" She nods very confidently. "Honey, it's not Teddy I'm screwing in here, neither is it Coffey, so maybe you should ask your boyfriend who I'm screwing." Cory is giving me the look of betrayal, but I ignore them both and walk out of the bunker. They can just go to hell. "Cassidy." I hear Coffey's voice and I groan in frustration as I turn around. "I'm not in the mood to explain anything." "That's okay, I don't know what happened between you and Cory but don't you think if you two start hating each other it will jeopardize our work? I just want you to get along, all of you." I can see what he means by that, but I'm so not working with Kira and her nasty attitude. "Coffey, all I want is to talk to that guy, I have been searching for years for him, and now that we've found him, you can't let me interrogate him." "Cassidy, I know, but just give me time I'll get all the information for you." I shake my head in disbelief. He doesn't get anything. For five years, I've been trying to find the woman that shot Thomas, everyone I found was either a wrong lead or they just wouldn't talk, so I killed them all. Then we find the guy that was driving that car on the day that Thomas died and they can't let me interrogate him, because they think I will kill him before he tells the truth. Now, I know they also have questions for him and that's why they need him alive, but my case is more serious. "He knows who killed my fiance on my wedding day." "I know, just give me a little more time and I promise I'll get you the name." I want to keep arguing, but I know it's going to be pointless, so instead I nod my head in agreement. "Good, you can go back to your normal work, I'll call you once something comes up." "Okay." "Oh, and Cass...you did a good job out there." "Thanks." I walk out of that place glad that I made him proud for once. I always mess up. I mean, I do get the job done, but there's always casualties. How he still keeps up with me is something I'll never understand. *** I watch as Kira and Cory walk to her car hand in hand and drive off. A moment later Coffey walks out and drives off in his car. I'm in my car a distance away from the bunker but I can see every movement. I give them a few more minutes before I get out of the car and walk to the bunker. I always have a spare key. We both do. I know they won't know I came back, because I make sure to delete the CCTV camera footage and turn them off. I walk to the basement, where he's been locked. He seems to be asleep, tied in his chair. I slap him straight on the face and he wakes up.The moment he sees me, I can notice the fear in his eyes, but he covers it with a smirk. "You." "Yeap, in the flesh." "You know I'm not going to tell you anything." I smirk. "I know, that's why I came to kill you myself before they try to let you go." I pull out my gun from my jacket pocket and c**k it. He sees how serious I am before he stops me. "Wait, I'll tell you what I know, just please don't kill me." I let out a chuckle and take down the gun. "Okay, who was that woman?" "Her name was Mary, look, I only drive people on their missions I don't get to ask questions." "So you're trying to tell me you don't know anything about her apart from the name?" "I know she's dead." My eyes shoot wide open. "What?" "When you guys started looking for her, it might have pissed off someone, because she was murdered." That can't be true. I needed to be the one to kill her. "And that's all you know." "I swear...please don't kill me." He begs in a shaky voice. "Right." I point the gun at his forehead and pull the trigger. ##########
