The Dragon's ready mate Family

Chapter 3

Sheara woke very early the following morning after a difficult night, to the sounds of waves breaking onto the shore. Surprised by the sound she decides to leave the room via the glass doors in the left of the room. Walking out the doors a fresh breeze with a salty smell hits her. Feeling refreshed she gazes out towards the sea, when she spots a flash of gold somewhere in the distance. Surprised, she tries to make out what it is that she saw. An unconscious feeling of having to KNOW what it is has her stepping down the steps towards the sea, hoping to catch another glimpse of it.

The sounds of a wracking cough coming from Rudi distracts her from her thoughts. Worry about her son drives her back in the house towards his bed. With a last glance backwards before entering back into the house. Touching his forehead, she can’t help but gasp in shock. He is running a fever. She will need to get him to a doctor or some sort of medication rather urgently.

Darius couldn’t sleep. Every time the sound of movement came from the room next to his, he was hit by the smell of lavender and fresh grass all over again, driving him and the creature inside of him wild. The drive to go to her and claim her as his own was getting out of hand. Feeling desperate, he went to his study, but even the reading of his books and the sound of soft music couldn’t distract him from the roaring inside of him.

Finally, when the sun rose over the sea and the wind blew all the rain clouds away, he couldn’t take it anymore. Walking onto his patio, he quickly undressed and with a jump into the air his body transformed. In the place of it was a huge dragon.

The dragon was a deep blue in color, with different shades of light to dark blue on the wings. Although he was mostly blue in color, his wingtips, as well as horns on his head and spikes on his back and tail was a golden color. The most pronounce however, was the color of his eyes, looking like true molten gold.

With a few beats of his powerful wings, he was over the ocean, drifting in the sky, becoming part of the wind that he can feel under his wings. His eyes became sharper, finally being able to see more even if those are the outlines of what he sees. So much so that he spotted exactly when Sheara walked out on to the steps in front of her room. Even this far away from her, he could still smell her sent mixed in with that of the ocean.

Noticing her glance towards him, he beat his wings a few times to get him higher, out of the eyesight of a human. When she returned inside, he changed direction with the flick of a talon, heading back towards the shore, where he changed back into his human self, feeling frustrated with once again not being able to see his surroundings, before heading back to his patio and where he left his clothes.

Entering the house, Darius immediately hear raised voices filling the house. Walking towards the sounds of the voices, his dragon is enraged when he hears Collin shouting at his mate.

“I’m telling you; we have to go!”

“And the answer is no, Darius said you are to stay inside the house!”

Fighting for control of his dragon who was rearing to take down Collin for yelling at his mate, feeling unable to control himself and the dragon inside of him and blaming the first one he sees, Darius turns to Sheara in a fit of rage.

“I thought I told you to stay inside! First, I have to see you walking around outside and now in my kitchen as well! Do you WANT to get hurt? Do you WANT to cause problems?!”

Feeling taken aback at the sudden attack from a new front, Sheara turns towards Darius, then narrows her eyes.

“Well excuse me for wanting to take care of my son! And when we took refuge in your home during a storm; that does NOT mean you can keep us prisoner against our will! Or is that why you are living here all alone, away from civilization, to keep people prisoner? Well, been there done that, not going to happen again!”

“Mommy, what’s happening, why is everyone fighting? Rudi’s really sick and you’re waking him up.” A small girl’s voice fills the sudden silence that had descended after Sheara’s outspokenness.

A change seems to settle over Darius’s face, before he goes down on his hunches in front of the small girl.

“I’m so sorry sweetheart, what naughty people we are for waking you up! Mummy’s just going back to your room now…”

“To hell with you, I’m not!” A quick glance into the yellow gold of Darius’s eyes make her fall silent however. As soon as she’s quiet, Darius normal blue eyes returns, and he focuses back on the girl in front of him.

“And then I’ll phone the doctor to come have a look at your brother, shall we?”

The next moment the little girl threw her arms around Darius’s neck to give him a hug. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!!”

A startled look passed over his face before he slowly stretched his arms and wrapped them around the little girl that was nestling her face in her neck.

“It’ll be good if mummy doesn’t have to worry all the time” she whispered before excitedly running back to the room.

Looking slightly uncomfortable Sheara glances between the men, before speaking again. “Uhm, if you don’t mind, I’d like to make the children something to eat? They are rather picky, like most kids, so uhm…”

“How about I bring them pancakes with chocolate syrup to the room instead?” Collin offered.

“Wow, uhm, that’ll be great. But I don’t mind making for them.” Sheara answered, surprise evident on her face.

“Don’t worry about it.” Sheara nodded, before, with a last, questioning look to the almost frozen face of Darius, went back to their room. Pausing in front of her door, looking back she can hear the drifting of their voices to her.

“What’s going on Sir? I know you don’t want them to leave in the rain, but isn’t it better for us to take them to the nearest town and drop them off? This puts all of us in danger.”

“Need I remind you of our discussion yesterday?! She stays and that’s final. Now make those pancakes and get Aria here, NOW.”

Feeling extremely confused, Sheara enters into their room, closing the door to be greeted back Rudi’s coughing and a worried looking Kendy sitting next to him on the bed.

“Why don’t you go play darling, then I’ll sit with him till the doctor comes.”

Not long after, a knock on the door interrupts Sheara from her thoughts and the sounds of Kendy playing in a corner. Opening the door, a small, dark haired lady is found standing in front of the door with a HUGE smile on her face. The excited atmosphere around her was so palpable that Sheara couldn’t help but smile back.

“Hi, uhm, I’m the doctor… Alph… I mean Darius send me, he said your son needs attention, Lu… I mean, Sheara? And I was asked to bring you this bag of clothes too you know. I really hope that it'll fit, you know, case I didn't really have your sizes, but I did try.”

“Yes please, I wanted to take him into town, but Darius wouldn’t allow me out of the house!” Sheara sounded really exasperated as she said this.

Giggling excitedly, the girl gives a look under her eye lashes. “O, you have to excuse him. It’s just, after everything that has happened to him, you know…”

“No actually, uhm, I don’t know?”

“Yes, off course you don’t, stupid me, sorry blond moment there. Uhm, but he’s not always this cranky, it’s just he doesn’t trust strangers easily after he lost his fam...i…ly… O s**t! There I go again, putting my foot in it! I’m Aria by the way, Aria Newman. Stupid surname that. Anyway, I hope we can be friends. O gosh, I better shut up now.”

By this time, Sheara is laughing out loud at the girl that seems to be unable to stop her mouth.

“What about the medication though? How am I to get that, if I can’t leave the house?”

Blushing a bit, and looking every bit uncomfortable, Aria can’t seem to meet Sheara’s eye.

“Uhm, just don’t worry about it, okay? It’s already taken care off. I better leave, else I’ll never stop babbling and Darius is going to mad as hell as it is already. O s**t, there I go again. Well bye!”

And just like that she darted out the door, leaving a very confused Sheara behind who was definitely NOT happy feeling so confused and FRUSTRATED all the time.
