6 As soon as the light streamed in through his window, Jayhan jumped out of bed, dressed quickly and sped out the door, jumping down the stairs four at a time and nearly crashing into Clive who was carrying a tray of glassware along the downstairs corridor. “Oops, sorry, Clive,” he said cheerily as he dashed down the side corridor, through the kitchen, skilfully dodging Rose who was carrying a stack of plates to the sink clearing up after the servants’ breakfast, and across to the stables. Hannah shook her head in fond exasperation in his wake. Sasha was already working, filling the horses’ feedbags before getting started on mucking out the stalls.
