#18 - The Icing On Our Love Cake

974 Words
“Mom, you are embarrassing me.” Liam whined, making me smile at the typical teenager attitude I never in a million years thought I would be dealing with. The first time he'd called me that, I had frozen and fumbled and insisted he just calls me Linda, but the kid wouldn't have it. He'd shot me one of those looks that said I was being ridiculous. In my defence though, it had only been two weeks since I had met the kid. One of which I had been his nanny and the other, I had spent putting off the wedding Ethan kept insisting on. He'd proposed the evening after our hot night at the cabin and if it were up to him, we'd have been married right there and then. By the time we got to the mansion, there was a ring, the most beautiful dress and a priest waiting. We'd fallen into a negotiation right after because as much as I had fallen for him, I wasn't ready to change their whole world in such a way. Of course I should have known that I didn't stand a chance. Ethan brought his A game to the negotiation table and unleashed the business beast that had done wonders to put Easton Corp. on the world stage. And he'd brought the kid too. An unfair advantage. Long story shot, I lost the whole thing and ended up with a son and a sexy husband. And for all that is sacred and beautiful, I wouldn't have it any other way. “Well, it’s not everyday my son becomes a teenager. Besides, Hannah and I spent an awful lot to make this cake perfect.” I pouted. “It’s not my fault you insist on not using all the resources an Easton is entitled to–” Liam shrugged to which I feigned shock. “You mean have some professional baker whip up some flawless cake? Nope, because then it wouldn’t have a sprinkle of that heart that loves you so much.” As old fashioned as it was, I loved doing all this mundane stuff with Liam. Loved how it had brought us closer over the time I had been his mom. The widest grin, I’d come to love shone like the sun. “You are right about that.” Liam swipped at the icing before turning to my buldging belly, “Kiddo, you have to get here soon, or I can’t promise not to finish all heart there is in our world.” “About that…” Liam froze. “You have that look–” “No, no, this is not that look. It’s a happy look, I promise.” Apparently his observational skills where only getting sharper with age. “Uh huh.” The kid looked sceptical as always. “It’s something we’ve been meaning to tell you, actually.” Ethan walked into the kitchen, looking all handsome and delicious in a tight muscle tee and loose pants. The reason for the attire had heat blooming in my cheeks. On a wink that was clearly suggestive, he snaked his arm around me, making my heart skip a beat. That had become my default setting to his touch, apparently. “I know you said no presents, but we couldn’t help it-" "You promised not to embarass me in front of my friends." "We did." Ethan's gaze fell on me, his eyes twinkling with excitement and all I wanted was to get lost in him. So much had changed since the first day I'd met his furious amber eyes. Changes I loved. We'd grown closer, loved each other deeply, healed together, but nothing beat that look of excitement he'd had after finding out that he would be a dad again. It always felt like the icing on our love cake. "I mean getting not just a baby sister, but a baby brother too is kind of awesome right?” Liam's jaw dropped, the first of its kind. “Twins? You guys are having twins? Like I'm getting two little beautiful siblings?” “In a nutshell, yes.” I answered breathlessly, but frowned the next second. “That means he’s happy, right?” I stared helplessly after Liam who'd bolted after the news. “Give him a moment, Mrs. Easton.” Warm lips found mine in a quick kiss that was still every bit sensual and left me weak at the knees. “It’s not only freaking awesome, but you are awesome. Both of you!” True to Ethan’s words, Liam came running back in, arms spread out in the biggest hug invitation. We all melted into it. Into each other, holding tight, letting the love that bound our little family flow. "So, you want to get away from here, Mrs. Easton?" Something stung on my butt , making me jump and squeak the moment Liam stepped out of the kitchen. "Care for some pole dancing?" The invitation was sexy as hell, but I was also a very practical person. Now that I was pregnant anyway. My gaze dropped to my belly. "You can't be serious?" "Of course I am–" "I'm not exactly in the position to–" "Who said anything about it being you?" The ground shifted and I found myself in familiar arms, giggling like a little girl. "Are you offering then, Mr. Eas–" my words died down in my throat as warm lips found mine, making me melt. "Anything for my sexy wife." Read on for your next short romance.
