My Monday morning started how it always did, everyday the neighborhood cockerel woke me up.A typical country Wake up call but it saved me from being late to every morning.i enjoyed sleeping as well as the next person and waking up at six am was always hard. springtime was coming, and with that came so much to do around the village to prepare for the spring market and festival.my village was small a population of about one Hundred and ninety six, but it was so for a reason the smaller our numbers the fewer supplies we needed and the less suspicion, and why suspicion you may ask, I'll tell you two hundred and five years ago on a sunny summer day the supernatural creatures from children's tales decided to come out in the sun to play.they were savages destroyed human villages with no Mercy, killing innocent people with no intention.the human population was down three hundred thousand in a matter of days. we humans retalaited of course being a stubborn race we fought back for those we had lost we had armies,weapons and medicine but we didn't realize how well the enemy had studied us. they were many creatures out there lurking in the shadows, the ones that made themselves known were like tales from a children's books.first there were the vampires,they only hunted at night raiding homes as we slept,they found bodies drained of blood their necks broken or sometimes never found at all luckily there hasn't been a vampire sighting here in 10 years but they said the creature to be immortal only able to be killed by ripping out it's heart. Next there are witches,they seem like ordinary people to an untrained eye but we were taught from a young age how to tell them apart, they were selfish creatures not choosing a side in the great war, they were prideful, boisterous even and always keen to trap an unfortunate soul in one of their spells . there also existed faes which were also like witches but they didn't need spells their gifts were natural,but I've been told they're very beautiful species with very dangerous powers. the most dangerous of them all were the shifters,men who could turn into beast,they were immortal destroyers with a thirst for human destruction,they could shift to furred beast at will.razor sharp fangs and claws,deep furry hides that towered over an ordinary hound anyone who came across a were shifter did not live or return to tell the tale. My father was one of them, just ten years ago he and his friends ventured a little down stream and got carried away,he was stubborn, resenting the hold of privacy our village forced upon us.My mother had told me he left that morning to go swimming since it was summer, only to have none of them return all six of them left that day and they found only four bodies. My mother hadn't been the same since I was nine years old just a child and by the age of twelve I learned how much i l depended on her.she primed and prepped me for adulthood those three years and as soon as I hit twelve she turned sour and left me on my own whilst she shrunk into herself in her room. I had taken on so much responsibility at such a young age one of those responsibilities being my sister Clark. Clark was 3 years younger than me naive enough to not know any different.it became my responsibility to prep her for school and once she was at school i went to work.i was fast to secure a job at a cafe as most adults had taken pity on me and once I told my mom about the job she said no one would hire someone like you unless you whored yourself to them.I was just a child i didn't know what she meant. I would go to work,earn the money we needed to survive and pick my sister up in Tim for dinner, luckily as per village rules we all could earn the same pay we lived by coins or by selling your belongings,I received two coins per hour and i worked seven hours per day everyday which gave me about a hundred coins per week which I spent on our upkeep. as we grew older my sister wanted to work hours after school, she begged me to leave school to help with the income more but i refused at least one of us needed to have an education, and Even though they were gossips all around us we managed to keep our head up and survive. one day as I was working a shift at the cafe my mother walked in and I could feel my breath caught in my throat, she looked better than she had in a while but that was not the biggest suprise, the biggest suprise was that she left her room all these years she had became recluse but here she was outside again and looking so beautiful.from that day onward she had totally change and became a different person from the sad and depressed woman she used to be, she became this outgoing lively and beautiful melanin goddess with long hair much like mine. it didn't take long for her to change the narrative of her being an irresponsible mother to me being a w***e and a rebellious child even after all she did I still kept calm as I was just happy to have my mother back then one day she told me to get ready to go out with her it was strange because Clarke was not coming with us on getting there she put on her best act as a loving mother which she is not and introduced me to the people I came to realize were the top family in the village aka my mother's new friends who's influence on her was very questionable, during the dinner i was informed that i was to marry their son Darius. Darius was a few years older than me and I was to court him for two years until I turned eighteen and then we were to get married after leaving there i tried to confront my mother about it but she quickly shot me down saying I didn't have a say in it and with that I was doomed
