Chapter 4

1996 Words
A smile flashed across her face from beneath reams of hair. It created slight dimples and creases that moved her freckles. Even though it was gone quickly, it was still there. She dipped her head down; never someone to be loud or extroverted. That was something males of the century appreciated in so many ways-she just got on with it and never needed anyone else’s validation. Casting her eyes to the side, he could see the shape of her face like a silhouette. It gracefully moved up and over her cheek bones then slanted sharply at her mouth. Being milk bottle white only gave her an extremely ethereal quality that glowed out of her near translucent skin. Each of her shoulders curled in, towards her chest. She was as statue at this time, drilled down with a sense of being completely exposed, on display. Each of her fingers were laced together with one another, holding herself together amidst her fragility. Gretel kept herself slightly in difference from the man that she had collided with. “Are you alright Madame? You have still not replied to me,” said the handsome stranger. Gretel kept her head down and said,” It is of no consequence at all Sir. I am alright. I just was trying to find someone who would help me carry the utensils to the lake-shore for washing. The water in the trough of the kitchen is so dirty that everyone will fall ill if I do so. I did not see you coming at all. My apologies to be of hindrance Sir. Please forgive me if I have caused any problem.” “It is I who should be asking for your pardone Madame…it was my fault for thinking that there might be no one in the kitchen considering it is Sabbath and all have gone to the church for their ritualistic prayers. If you require any assistance then I am absolutely thrilled to be of help. Please show me the way. I must rescue you from the obvious distress that you are in,” said the handsome stranger. Gretel thought that this was the best way to break ice and she demurely nodded and showed him the kitchen. Everyone was at Church which meant that the glory of Christ was already in their hearts and they would not have to do much work in spreading the gospel. That was good in one way at the least. “Pardon me for being so rude. I am Sir Caspian Catalone, knight and Prince of this realm, at your service,” said the stranger. Gretel gasped out loud and then said,” Holy Heavens Master…I am the one who is at your service My Lord. I am new here. I did not know that it was you or I would not have done anything of this sort even in my wildest dreams. Please forgive me for my impudence.” “There is nothing you need to apologize for. I am happy to be at the service of my people even when she is new to this place, especially when she is new to this place,” said Caspian with an enigmatic smile as he lifted the basket of the half-washed utensils and Gretel did the same on the other side. “What is your name Miss? If I am not being too intrusive or impolite to the lady?” asked Caspian as they walked with the weight in between them. “Rosa Maria, my Lord,” said Gretel, and she tried to feign weakness in carrying the basket because the demonic strength was going to land her into trouble. “So tell me about yourself Rosa Maria,” said Caspian as they halted on their way towards the pond. “There is nothing much to tell Sire. I have no family left, am an orphan along with my brother who is a priest. I had thought to be a nun but then I did not feel if that was my calling,” said Gretel as truthfully as it was possible to tell this pathetic lies. “Why did you feel that way? That the path of the Lord was not for you?” asked Caspian as they lifted the basket once more and resumed walking towards the pond. It was a gravelly path and quite difficult to stop their feet from slipping up. “I did not receive any calling at all. It felt that the path that my brother had chosen was not meant for me at all. I did not feel comfortable amongst the nuns and their dark gloomy cells with the meagre rations. I would have to say that it does definitely provide security and protection from the wolves running hither and thither but I also want to have a family of my own. See my children playing around in the backyard. I did not think I would be able to keep my vows even if I took them,” said Gretel as they finally reached the pond. Caspian looked at her in amazement and said,” You are a young woman but you are wiser beyond your years and that is true Rosa Maria.” Gretel blushed at his words and took the wooden bucket and filled it to the brim from the pond and she started washing the dishes and utensils on the stone slab. “It is alright if you take leave of me Sire. I shall manage it from here onwards,” said Gretel as she scrubbed the dishes hard. “That is not going to be possible on my part I am afraid. You see, once you are done with washing these things you would need a hand to carry them back to the castle kitchen won’t you?” asked Caspian without looking up at Gretel who was smirking at him. But she did not let him see that. She needed to be as demure and distant as possible and then haunt him in his dreams if she wanted to make this man her eternal slave. Suddenly a voice calling out the name of the Prince was heard from inside the castle. And the voice came on closer as Gretel turned back and saw a woman in royal attire coming down as if one with the wind. She was fair to extremity of golden blondeness. It looked exotic to Gretel who was a dark-haired demoness. She could not help but lick her lips at the thought of seeing Hansel put his thick member inside the soft pink p***y of this maiden. Her features were small and perfectly delicate. She had feet which you could call dainty. Her nose was straight and agile giving her a shade of distinction from the most common women. She was a woman of personality and she came closer Gretel felt that she smelled something familiar. The woman was very slender and erect and Gretel could feel something very intimate about this woman. “The whole castle has been looking for you and you are sitting here beside a maid near the pond Caspian,” said the woman with exasperation,” what were you thinking in the name of the Holy father?” “You seem to be quite in the mood today Clairmond. Good morning to you as well,” replied Caspian, cheekily, not even bothered to get up from where he was sitting on the rock. “It is bad enough that you do not go to the Church of Dark Lord to pray but now here, this is absolutely sinful. You there, lass, what is your name?” asked the woman named Clairmond. With the phrase Church of the Dark Lord the utensil which she was scrubbing in her hand had dropped hard on the ground. She got up fumbling with it and said with her head bowed down,” Rosa Maria, Mistress. I am the new scullery maid.” “Fine fine…but do you not think that it is not proper for you to indulge in this kind of behavior in broad daylight? And you Caspian, what the hell are you thinking? Deflowering a maid in your chambers at night is one thing but now in the light of the sun we are not allowed to give in to our instincts, you have been told that multiple times,” said Clairmond. “You might think everyone to be of loose morals like you Clairmond but that is not true. And why on earth shall I go deflowering someone in my chambers in the darkness of night? Just to relieve the fire of my loins? It is bad enough that you have controlled my father and all the other servants but remember I am the Crown Prince of the Kingdom and everyone here has the freedom to do whatever they wish and pray to whomever they want. I do not bow before this Dark Lord of yours and neither does this young woman. She is Catholic and I wish that she remains so. You do not need to be bothered by my actions or whatever I do and when I do. I answer to no one except my father and the Lord Himself. So please get out of my sight before I drown you in this pond,” said Caspian with considerable rage. Gretel understood why she was having this familiar feeling the presence of this woman. That is because she was a witch and she had masked it well. And this one was quite powerful to have everyone in the kingdom under her thrall. She was back in the Dark Ages, Gretel thought with a sigh. Clairmond smiled at Caspian’s furious display of temper and turned back and went towards the castle. Gretel started shivering in a fake display of fear. “Rosa Maria? Are you alright?’ Caspian came forward to hold her as he found her shivering. “I want to leave this blasphemous place as soon as possible Sire,” said Gretel as he looked at her with concern. “But you just arrived today Rosa Maria..Don’t you think that you should give this place some chance?” asked Caspian as she looked up at him with admiration in her eyes. “I am not sure I am strong enough to withstand anything so dark as the Queen was saying. After all I am just a scullery maid. I also need to pray to the Lord but here I would never consider that to be a real possibility. I am going to the outcast here, am I not?” asked Gretel, just thinking how many more lies she needed to tell in order to get the job done. Caspian caught hold of her shoulder and turned her towards him and said,” Look into my eyes.” Once she did that he continued speaking in his deep resonant voice,” I am willing to fight for you as long as you are willing to fight for our faith. That is something that no one take away from you. Even at the weakest point of your life you did not consider running away from life and hiding behind the walls of a monastery but you chose to fight. Fight for your faith, fight for your life and for yourself. That is something others could have never done if they were standing in your position. I don’t think that you give yourself enough credit for being strong.” Gretel listened to him feigning careful consideration while her mind was flooded with thoughts of how she was going to torment this poor boy tonight and the nights after. “Once you are done with the dishes we can go back to the kitchen,” said Caspian and Gretel gasped out and placed her palm on her mouth and started washing the dishes once more.
