Chapter 6

Katherine pov I found myself uncomfortable with the woman's gaze, which seemed to linger on me. Her intense stare, accompanied by dramatic eye rolls, made me feel uneasy. I would often force a smile when our eyes met. Scarlett's gruff tone was unmistakable as she said, “How does it feel to live alone, like a loner?” The emphasis on the word “loner” sparked a defensive response within me, but I chose to laugh it off. “That's my problem to deal with, don't you think?” I replied, my voice dripping with sarcasm as I shrugged my shoulders and pocketed my hands. I turned to escape into a book, but my solitude was short-lived. A gentle hand on my shoulder sent shivers down my spine, and I spun around to face Scarlett, my eyes wide with surprise. “How did you get here?” I asked, my voice laced with astonishment. She replied simply, “I walked.'" The sound of footsteps on the stairs caught our attention, and we both turned to look in that direction. “Nyx,” I whispered, smiling at the sight of the reckless, big-headed driver making his way down. I glanced over at Scarlett, who was standing beside me, and continued, 'I thought you'd left for the night.' I stuttered, “It's already 9 pm, so... how about a sleepover?” I asked, bouncing up and down on my toes in a playful gesture. Nyx smirked "A sleepover? You want to have a sleepover with me and Scarlett? What's next, a slumber party with pillow fights?" "Hey, don't knock it till you try it! Besides, it'll be fun. We can stay up late, watch movies, and share secrets." Scarlett smiled"Actually, that sounds like a great idea. I'm in." "No, Scarlett, you're not involved in this," I said, turning to nyx, Marian. "You'll stay at Marian's house while I spend the night with Nyx." I grabbed Nyx's arm, rubbing it from shoulder to wrist, as Scarlett stared at us in confusion. Nyx smirked, objecting to my suggestion. "Katherine can't spend the night with Marian," he said, his tone dripping with disapproval. I felt a surge of adrenaline coursing through my veins as I clenched my fist in anger. "Fine," I muttered, trying to keep my voice down to avoid causing a scene. "I'll stay in Marian's stuffy house...coward," I added under my breath, the last word barely audible. "Can I have the address of Marian's house?" Scarlett asked rudely, her tone grating on my nerves. I felt a surge of anger and removed my hand from Nyx's arm, my eyes locked intensely on Scarlett. "What's your problem, Scarlett?" I asked, my voice low and even. Nyx stepped in, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Scarlett is our guest, Katherine. No need to be hostile." But I continued, my words dripping with venom. "Stay out of this, Scarlett. You don't need to make decisions for anyone. Just mind your own business and don't cross me." I leaned in closer, my voice barely above a whisper. "And stay away from Nyx. I'm watching you." "Can we skip the drama? I need a place to stay, not more fighting," Scarlett muttered, pushing me away from her side. I watched as she strode over to Nyx, her eyes flashing with anger. "Are you going to let me stay here while your...friend" - she spat out the word, glaring at me with disgust - "speaks to me so rudely?" She flipped her hair back stylishly, her movements sharp with annoyance. "I need to stay at Marian's house," she demanded, her voice rising. "Now." And with that, she stormed out, leaving us in an awkward silence. Nyx let out a sigh and rubbed his temples. "Well, that was fun. I'm glad we're all getting along so well." I rolled my eyes. "You think?" Scarlett stepped in, her voice calm and soothing. "Hey, let's not fight about this. We can all stay here tonight and figure things out in the morning." But I was still fuming. "I don't want to stay here with her. She's toxic." Nyx raised an eyebrow. "Oh, come on. She's not that bad." I glared at him. "You're just saying that because you're attracted to her." Nyx's expression turned neutral, but I could see a flicker of guilt in his eyes. "That has nothing to do with it." But I knew the truth. Nyx had a weakness for Scarlett, and it was going to get us all into trouble. As we stood there, the tension between us palpable, I knew that this was far from over. The drama was just beginning, and I was stuck right in the middle of it. "Scarlett, you're going to stay at Marian's house, got it?" I said, snatching up my car keys and tossing them to Nyx, who caught them with a questioning look. I jerked my head towards the door. "Let's go, before she makes herself too comfortable in my home." My face went from pale to beet-red with anger as I spun on my heel and stalked away, Nyx and Scarlett trailing behind me. "Move it, Scarlett!" I barked, my anger boiling over. "We're leaving, now." As we drove to Marian's house, the tension in the car was palpable. Scarlett sat silently in the backseat, her eyes fixed on her phone, while Nyx and I exchanged uneasy glances. When we arrived at Marian's, Scarlett quickly grabbed her bag and jumped out of the car, without even a thank you. "Hey, wait up!" Nyx called after her, but she just kept walking. Marian greeted us at the door, a concerned look on her face. "Hey, guys, what's going on?" I shook my head. "Scarlett is just being her usual charming self, anyways you got a new girl to deal with, she suvks." Marian raised an eyebrow. "Oh, joy. Well, come on in. Let's get this drama-filled night over with." As I sat in the car with nyx, I broke the silence. "No thanks, huh?" I asked, my voice tinged with sarcasm. Scarlett turned to face us, her eyes flashing with anger, and raised her middle finger in a crude gesture. "f**k you both"
