Chapter 4

I woke up with definitely the worst headache in my whole life. My whole body felt like floating in the air and I could feel my whole world spinning around even with my eyes closed. I knew I wanted to get wasted but I never thought I would be this wasted to the point that I cannot even remember what happened last night. It’s as if last night never happened—if not for this hangover I am feeling right now. I flickered my eyes open and scanned the surroundings first before I realized that I am not familiar with where I am right now. “s**t,” I mumbled under my breath as I forced myself to get up even with the horrible headache I am feeling right now. The walls were white with gray accents. There’s a flat-screen TV in front of me, which I think is about eighty-two inches wide, with a set of surround sound speakers. There are two doors to my right, near the huge window. On my left is another door which I think is the door out of this room. I looked down at what I’m wearing. I am still wearing my clothes from last night. Somehow, I am relieved that I didn’t surrender my virginity to a random stranger because of too much alcohol. I am proud of myself. I heard something chiming to my left and saw my phone on the bedside table. I quickly grabbed it and my eyes widened when I saw fifty-nine missed calls from Prayne. I immediately called him and he answered in one ring. “Where in the world are you?!” he hollered and I had to put away the phone from my ear because of his loud voice. “I went to the club that you told me last night but you weren’t there anymore!” I pursed my lips and sighed. I raised my knees to my chest and massaged my temple. So this is the feeling of having a hangover. I don’t want to get wasted again in my whole life. “I don’t know what happened,” I answered Prayne in a hoarse voice. Damn. Even my voice wouldn’t come out. I heard a harsh gasp from the other line. “What do you mean you don’t know what happened?” he asked and now, I am sure that he’s already hysterical. “My goodness, Jelia! Where are you right now? Please tell me that you didn’t have a one-night stand with some complete stranger!” I pursed my lips and sighed. “I still have my clothes on,” I replied. He scoffed and let out another harsh breath. “Wait, wait, wait…” he said like he’s trying to calm himself. “Do you know where you are right now?” he asked me. “The manager is going to go nuts if she knew about this!” I pursed my lips in a thin line. I could care less about the manager right now to be honest. My problem is that my head is aching so bad. It’s throbbing and I feel like the pain is not going away any time soon. “My head is throbbing, Prayne. Can we not talk about this right now?” I pleaded. “I just want to sleep the whole day.” “Jelia, how can you even think of sleeping right now? You’re practically nowhere to be found!” I pursed my lips and sighed. “I can share you my location, okay? I’ll send you after this call,” I told him just so he would stop nagging me. “Why did you even think of drinking? It’s not like you!” he began his litany now. “The next time you drink, you should be under my supervision. I will not allow you to get drunk on your own anymore!” I rolled my eyes because I already know that this will never happen again. This was supposed to be a form of rebellion against my parents, not against my own body. But I guess it is the latter that happened. For sure, my parents will not wonder where I am right now. All they care about is their business. Prayne continued on his nagging and I listened to it. It’s not like I’m not used to it anyway. But then again, I haven’t really heard him talk so frustrated like this. I must have pushed all the buttons with this self-proclaimed rebellion of mine that he’s doing this right now. “Are you okay though? Do you not feel anything that hurts? No bruises?” I slowly smiled at his sudden change of tone. I looked at my arms and limbs. “Aside from my headache and dizziness, I am feeling good,” I replied. “Did you even sleep on a nice bed? Or on a bed, per se?” I chuckled weakly. “Yes,” I replied and leaned on the headboard. “I might be in a hotel room, though,” I said because the whole room looked so sophisticated. This could be a suite room or anything. He sighed hard. “Okay,” he uttered, slowly calming down. “Please share your location with me so I can go and fetch you.” I sighed and nodded even though he wouldn’t be able to see anything. “Okay,” I told him and was just about to hang up when I suddenly heard the shower running. “What the hell?” I muttered under my breath. “What did you say? Why? What’s happening?” Prayne asked from the other line. “Did something happen?” I narrowed my eyes at the first door to my right which I now believe is the bathroom. “No, nothing happened but I think I am not alone in the room,” I replied as I slowly got out of the bed and walked to the bathroom door. “What are you doing?” Prayne was hysterical once more. “Just leave that damn room and hail a cab to your place!” He’s right. I should leave the place. But aside from my phone, I don’t have anything else. I don’t have my wallet, my keys, and even my shoes! Ah, goodness gracious, Jelia! Is that what you’re thinking about right now? What if this person is a serial killer? All the bad thoughts have started to flood my brain, especially with Prayne talking to me on the phone. I don’t think he’s helping me with this. He is only giving me added stress by nagging me to go out. “Wait, Prayne. I’ll call you back, okay?” I told him before hanging up without even letting him say anything. It’s better that I do not hear him say anything more because I’m sure that I will only be more stressed if I do. I stood in front of the door and waited until the person inside is done. After a few minutes, the shower stopped. I stood straight, despite my hangover that makes it hard for me to stand on my feet because of the fast spinning of my surroundings. Not long after the shower stopped, the door opened revealing a man who only has a small piece of a towel wrapped around his waist. I was stoned on my spot as I saw water dripping from his hair down to his rock-hard abs and down to the towel that’s covering his private part. Okay, this is definitely not the first time that I have seen a man’s body. I have been in photoshoots with half-naked men but none of them actually exuded this kind of s*x appeal. No. Not anyone. I swallowed hard as he stopped in front of me. He cleared his throat when he probably noticed that I am left checking his body out. It’s embarrassing. I pursed my lips before looking at his face, only to be shocked to see a familiar man staring down at me. I cannot be mistaken. This is the man who was annoying me last night in the bar when I was on my first shots of drinks. “You?!” I asked, hysterical, angry, and dumbfounded all at the same time. “What are you doing here?!” He narrowed his eyes at me before smirking. “This is my house,” he replied. “You are inside my room.” My jaw dropped at what I just heard. I looked at him in disbelief and denial. “What am I doing here then?” I couldn’t stop myself from asking. Well, now, he knows that I can’t remember anything from last night. “Why did I sleep in your room?” He smiled at me before smiling like an i***t. “You don’t remember anything.” It was a statement and by the look on his face, he is enjoying this. He chuckled lowly before shaking his head. He stared into my eyes deeply before taking a step closer. By instinct, I stepped back. With every step he made forward, I took a step back and made sure that there is at least two feet distance between us. Until I could feel the back of my knee hit the edge of the bed. That’s when I started to panic internally. He took that advantage to inch closer until his naked upper torso is only a fingerbreadth from me. I gulped hard, obviously intimidated by the close proximity of our bodies. Suddenly, my headache was not my main problem anymore but this awkward feeling now that he’s close to me. “You really don’t remember? It’s fascinating.” His low voice sent shivers down my spine. It’s as if he’s trying to trap me under a spell and he’s slowly winning with that. I pursed my lips in a thin line and looked at him in a fierce manner, hoping that he doesn’t see right through me. “I don’t care about what happened last night,” I told him. “I’m leaving,” I announced bravely. But he only tilted his head to the side and looked at me with an amused expression on his face. He crossed his arms against his chest and damn if those pecs weren’t to die for. Ugh, Jelia! Stop checking him out, you stupid! “I need to know where my keys are. And my purse. And my shoes,” I added. “Tell me where my things are so I can go home now.” He raised his brow as he stared at me like he’s trying to read my mind. “You’re having a bad case of a hangover,” he commented. “You should eat and sleep first.” I narrowed my eyes at him. I don’t really care if my head is aching or if it’s too hard for me to hold my ground because I am feeling so dizzy. I want to go home and have my rest. “I want to go home,” I insisted. He shrugged. “Then you can go. You won’t know where your car, shoes, and purse are,” he said before walking away. My eyes widened and suddenly grew alarmed by the situation. “Wait!” I went after him. “Give me my things back!” I demanded and followed him to the room that he entered—the other door which now I know is his wardrobe. He ignored me and proceeded on picking his boxers. When he was done, he looked at me with a look as if asking me if I am going to peek all the way. I gritted my teeth and turned my back on him. “Just give me what I want so I could go and have my own peace again.” I didn’t stop nagging him even when he was changing into his clothes. I really put myself into trouble this time. Prayne is going to scold me big time when he learns what happened to me. “Are you done putting clothes on?” I asked him because I want to face him so bad so he could see my facial expression now. But then instead of answering me, he slung his arm around my shoulders and leaned closer to my ear. “Why don’t we eat breakfast before I drive you home, my wife?” he whispered to me which automatically sent my whole system in shock. What? Did he just call me his wife? What the hell is happening?
