I went to my sister’s house the next morning as my shift didn’t begin until that evening. Gloria had agreed to help me with the honeymoon plans. People these days didn’t use travel agents. Online made it easy to be your own agent, but I still thought it might be fun for Gloria to help me.
She was living on her own with her toddler after her husband got locked up for beating her. She had a one-bedroom apartment that was pretty small, but she had a good job at the county courthouse, so the apartment building was nice and only a couple blocks from the bay. If you squinted from her bathroom window you could even see the ocean.
