By then, Stella was already standing in front of Edward. She rubbed her wrist as she looked up. "I've returned the brooch and signed the agreement to cancel the engagement. Do you have anything else you need from me?"
Edward was expressionless as he said, "Nothing. I just happened to pass by."
After that, he turned around and walked away.
Stella looked at him thoughtfully for a moment then shouted, "Mr. Benz."
Edward stopped and looked back at her with a cold expression.
She smiled. "It doesn’t matter what the reason was when you wanted to help me, I hope it ends here and now. I'll pretend that we've never met before."
From Edward's birth until now, no matter if it was a man or a woman, everyone wanted to get to know him through various means.
It was the first time that someone tried to distance themselves from him.
He furrowed his eyebrows coldly. "It just so happens that I was thinking about that too."
After Edward left, Stella turned her head and stared coldly at Ray, who was waiting for a taxi by the roadside.
Ray could feel someone looking at her from behind. The chilling gaze made her scared.
Just then, a taxi stopped in front of her.
Without any hesitation, Ray got into the car and urged the driver to drive off.
When there was no one around, Stella frowned.
The severe pain in her stomach made her remember that during her previous life, she had fainted a day or two after the engagement was canceled. Then, she found out she had been pregnant for a month.
In other words, she was currently pregnant.
When Stella thought of this, she endured the pain in her wrist and touched her belly.
This was her baby, Abby.
In her previous life, if it wasn’t for her mother, Elena, who forced her to marry Victor Stone, her daughter would not have been beaten to death by Victor.
Although she had killed Victor, she had lost her daughter too.
At the thought of Abby, the pain all over her body caused her heart to ache too. She suddenly felt suffocated.
Everything went black and she fell to the ground.
Even when she fainted, her hands were still subconsciously protecting her belly.
…...
When Stella regained consciousness, the smell of disinfectant made her frown.
She slowly opened her eyes.
When Bruce saw that Stella had woken up, he walked over with a glass of water in his hand. "Stella, you’re awake."
After staring at him for a while, she remembered who he was. She didn't take the cup and stared at him with vigilance.
"I remember that I fainted. Were you the one who sent me to the hospital?"
Bruce shook his head. "No, it was Mr. Benz. That day, he went back to the company to retrieve some documents. He saw you unconscious on the bridge."
He didn't lie. The other day, halfway through the journey, Edward suddenly asked him to stop the car. He shooed him out and explained that he needed to go back to the company to retrieve some documents.
"That day? How many days have I been unconscious?" Stella frowned.
Bruce replied, "Three days."
Her face darkened. Then, she reached for the phone that was on top of the bed.
However, the phone was switched off because it was out of battery.
According to the company's regulations, they would be immediately fired after being absent for three days without notice.
Stella looked up at Bruce. "May I borrow your phone to make a phone call?"
Bruce handed his phone to her.
As she was calling her manager to ask for leave, Edward happened to walk in from outside.
Stella was looking at Edward while she explained through the phone, "It won't happen again in the future. I'll go to the company tomorrow..."
Before she could finish her words, the manager hung up the phone.
With an embarrassed look on her face, she returned the phone to Bruce.
Bruce took the phone, placed the cup on the bedside table, and walked out.
He closed the ward door when he went out.
When the ward was quiet again, Edward looked at her coldly and asked, "Do you have anything to tell me?"
Since he asked that question, it meant that he knew she was pregnant.
Stella stared into his eyes. "The child isn't yours. Do I need to report my pregnancy to you?"
"It has been exactly a month since that night, and you are pregnant for a month. If I remember correctly, it was your first time that night," Edward stated plainly as he stared at her.
Stella looked away and chuckled. "Mr. Benz, do you think that every woman hopes that you are the father of their child because you have such good qualifications?"
"Moreover, some blood on the sheets does not always mean that it’s a woman’s first time. Perhaps it could just be period blood."
Although what she said was reasonable, Edward still felt that she was denying it just because she wanted to distance herself from him.
He was unfathomably slightly heartbroken. "Before I prove that the child is not mine, you'd better not get rid of the child."
Stella was startled and tried to anger him. "Are you happy to be a father? Or is it because that night was your first night and you have only had me as your woman? Is that why you have such an obsession with my unborn baby?"
“Edward's voice was cold. "Don't worry. I want the child, not you."
He didn't deny it!
As she watched him leave, she felt a little at ease.
Was it really his first time that night?
After Edward left the ward, Fiona came out from the corner of the corridor of the hospital.
She was there accompanying Richard to change his wound dressing when she stumbled upon Edward.
She recognized him as the man who helped Stella that day, thus she followed him all the way to Stella’s room. She didn't expect to hear his conversation with Stella!
Fiona turned around, walked to the window, and made a phone call
…...
After learning that the baby in her belly was all right, Stella went through the discharge formalities.
As soon as she walked out of the hospital, she received a call from her father, Edison Biber.
On the phone, Edison's tone didn't sound good. He asked her to go home immediately.
Stella took a taxi home from the hospital.
In the living room, Edison was sitting on the sofa with a long face. He was still wearing his mechanic uniform.
Elena and Ray were sitting next to him.
Stella closed the door and walked in. "What's wrong?"
Edison roared unhappily, "Kneel."
Stella asked, "What did I do wrong?"
Her father did not expect that she would dare to ask him such a question. He stood up angrily from the sofa. "Your Grandma arranged a marriage for you, but you just canceled it without informing us. You broke Ray’s friend's finger on the street. Not only did you steal money in public, but you also got pregnant before getting married. Now, you are asking me what you did wrong?"
Were all these things that came out from Edison's mouth her fault?
She didn't even need to ask to know who had blabbed.
She turned to glare at Ray. "Ray, tell me, did I steal money?"
"I, I don't know." Ray's voice stuttered as if she was frightened.
Edison was furious. He raised his hand and pointed at her. "How dare you threaten your sister in front of me? Do you still think of me as a father?"
"What about you? I was in a coma in the hospital for three days. Did you ask me if I was okay? You said that I broke off the engagement and I stole money. Did you ask me why?"
"You don't have to kick me out this time. I'll leave by myself."
After that, she went straight to her room.
Edison was so angry that he was out of breath. He walked out from behind the coffee table and scolded, "Hurry and get lost! I'll pretend that I never had a daughter like you!"
As soon as Stella reached the door, she hurried into her room.
She packed some daily necessities and clothes only. She didn't even fill half of the suitcase.
She pulled the suitcase through the living room and went straight out.
When she was about to reach the door, she suddenly stopped. She looked back and felt a sharp pain in her eyes.
"I've never been blood-related to all of you anyway. Mom, don't you know best how I came to this house?"
After that, she opened the door and shut the door with Edison questioning Elena and Ray crying.
After coming out of the building, she took two bus trips to a single apartment near the company.
The rent for a single apartment was 1,500 Dollars a month, and she had to pay a deposit of 500 Dollars.
