THE DISGUISE

FLASHBACK Lady Carolyn was worried about the incident that happened to Gaia when she lost her control in school and was thinking about what to do so that the kind of incident will not happen anymore. It’s already enough that she’s living a friendless life, it will be too overwhelming for her to be tagged as a monster on top of that, it will only make her life sad and she’s not ready to make her go through that life of torture. “I have to help her out and make sure she is being able to live a great life instead of a lonely one” she said as she prepared the primrose tea for her She went to visit her where she was sleeping and saw how she was struggling in her dreams and she could not help but feel bad for her “Don’t worry, I will make sure to relieve you of this burden, I will not allow you to pass through it alone” she said to her as she covered her up with a blanket before removing the strand of hair straying on her face She set out to the palace the next day so she would request a presence with the king who was also looking for his daughter who had gone missing for years. Since she was very familiar with the palace due to the fact that she grew up there, she knew all the corners and other places where she could sneak into the palace. She sneaked in through one of the channels she knew which was leading to the kitchen, she entered the kitchen to find the maids busy with foods and other things so she was not noticed by anyone. She went straight to one of the maids she knew in the palace and begged for her help “Lady Carolyn?” the maid exclaimed as she turned to look at her when she tapped her shoulder “Shhh” she said with a signal putting her hand on her mouth to shut her up “How did you get in here? Did anyone see you?” the maid asked away but she just pulled her hand and dragged her into the store “you have to help me out first, I don’t have enough time to explain how I got in here” she replied as they closed the door to the store and held it in place with its hook to prevent unapproved interruption “what are you here for and how can I be of help?” the maid asked immediately “I have to see the king and it is very urgent, the lunch has not been delivered to the king’s chamber right?” she replied and the maid paused in surprise for a while before thinking of a reply “So what you are telling me right now is that you want to see the king and you need my help with that?” the maid repeated “Exactly! I have to see the king and to do that without getting noticed, I need your help” she replied to confirm “But how can I do that? If the prime minister finds out it will be a disaster” the maid said with worry “the lunch has not been delivered to the king’s chamber right?” she asked with hope in her eyes “Yes, it has not been delivered. We just finished cooking the last dish and we will be sending out the foods soon” the maid informed her “Good! Then let me take the food to him instead” she offered and the maid was confused “How are you going to take the food to him with your face revealed? Everyone in this palace knows you so there is no how the prime minister will not hear of it immediately and you know what that means? You know you have been branded a traitor who mislead the princess and manipulated her to run away from the palace” the maid remarked “Don’t worry about all that, I will use the kitchen’s mask to cover up my disguise” she offered “That will be weirder, we don’t use the kitchen’s mask outside the kitchen because we don’t have a need to” the maid countered She placed her hand on the fearful maid’s shoulder and told her to calm down before listening to her “I will make it work, I have been a court maid for years and I know all the tricks so leave it to me, even if I am caught, I will never mention your name so it won’t be traced back to you, you can be rest assured” she said and the maid sighed again still thinking if she should agree to the offer “this is very risky and I am only trying my best because of the princess who has been a good person to us while she was here but just as you have promised, do not ever mention my name if things go awry” the maid said finally agreeing to the deal The maid told the other maids to leave the king’s food as they were about to carry it, she told them that another maid will deliver it and they backed off to do other things while Lady Carolyn changed into the king’s maid dress she was given by the maid. She came out with a piece of white cloth tied to her nose and mouth “You have to be very careful, I hope you see the king safely though” the maid said wishing her luck before pointing to the food she was to carry She carried the tray of food and head to the king’s chamber to deliver it, no one paid attention to her as she moved to the chamber and she was glad until she reached the king’s door and the guard at the door stopped her “Who are you?” the guard asked stopping her “I am a kitchen maid and I am here to deliver the king’s food” she replied sharply and the guard scanned her from head to toe “Why are you covering your face?” he asked further “I got pepper into my nose during cooking and I got a running nose since I have been sneezing since so I have to guard the food” she explained calmly “Then you should have let another person bring it, are you trying to contaminate the king’s food?” the overzealous guard asked again making her get tired of all his questions but she had expected it “Everyone is busy doing one thing or the other, if I stop them from performing their duties then the quarters they are working for will suffer for it. I have taken precautions and prepared the king’s food with extreme care so you can be rest assured, if anything goes wrong then you can gladly have my head” she said trying her best not to fidget “You already said it with your mouth and I will make sure to follow up on it, if I discover any issues that can be linked with you then you should be prepared to face the wrath of…” the guard blabbered away before the king’s voice cut through their conversation from inside “who is that at the door? What is going on?” the king asked and the guard quickly opened the door for him “The maid here is suspicious, she is using a mask and I am asking why she is doing that” the guard explained to him “Send her in, I will interview her myself” the king said putting an end to the argument which obviously made the guard hurt because he was trying to use his power on her “You can go in” he said leading her inside She released her breath as she walked into the room and gently placed the tray on the large table before setting the table, the king motioned for the guard to leave them and he finally did “you, who are you and why are you covering your face?” he asked setting down the paper in his hands “it is I my king” Lady Carolyn said before reaching for the mask and gently removing it from her face “You! Are you not the princess’ nanny? How come you are here?” he asked with surprise boldly written on his face “Yes, my king, I am the princess’ nanny and I have come here because I have a very important discussion to have with you my King, pardon my rudeness” she replied bowing her head to the ground “You have something important to discuss with me? What could that be that you are willing to risk your life?” he asked paying rapt attention “It is about the princess’ daughter my king” she replied and the king sprang up from his seat “Are you with the princess? How is she doing? Where is she right now? Is she safe?” he asked one after the other as he moved closer to Lady Carolyn who was on her knees “The princess is not with me because she was taken hostage by the prime minister during her wedding ceremony to her husband but I was able to escape with her daughter and I have been living with her while bringing her up all these years” she explained and the King slowly squatted to come closer to her on the ground “Did you just say you were able to escape with the baby? Is she safe now? How have you both been coping?” he asked with so much pain and joy mixed in his voice “She is fine and she grew up well but I am here because she has a problem which I have to help her resolve” she replied going straight to the point “Something is wrong with her? What could be wrong with her?” he asked with confusion laced on her face “she is too powerful because of her breed which is made up of werewolf and your own nature. Everything she touches catch fire and also she can’t seems to control the usage of it. She had to grow up without friends because she is someone who was above all her mates and extraordinary, these days too she can’t seems to control it anymore and even got into an accident yesterday at her school” she replied with so much worry “She is exhibiting energy that is beyond her control. The energy of the two breeds has always been a disaster so we always try our best to avoid it but do not worry so much, we have a solution to it” the king replied making her face lit up with hope “we have a solution you say? What do I have to do? I want her to live as a normal person who is able to have friends so I am willing to make any sacrifice for her” she said excitedly “Back then when we had a witch who was born on the night when a werewolf was giving out enormous power into the moon, she got some powers mixed with hers and had to live as a hybrid even when both of her parents were witches. They were forced to seek solution and they didn’t get one until they consulted the moon who told them to take her to the deserted island where her powers will be isolated and controlled, she will be tied to the island until she has learnt how to control her powers. These set of people are powerful people whose existence has a purpose so they are given extraordinary powers. The deserted island is their training ground before they carry out their missions” the king explained “So you mean I should take her to the deserted island? Can I live with her there?” she asked immediately “there is always a keeper on the island that will help her out so you don’t need to worry about her. You will have to leave her there to face her own fate. This must have been the signal I kept reading from the moon all these while. Although I can’t undo my mistake of sending her mother out, I will make sure the child doesn’t have a rough patch. Always use this method whenever you are coming to visit and make sure to give me constant feedback about the child” the king said as he settled down in front of his meal “thank you my king, I will make sure to carry out everything you have said and I promise to stick to her side and help her the way I can” she said with a bow before leaving the chambers and ran back to the kitchen where she changed her clothes, thanked the maid so much and left the palace with immediate effect before the prime minister will notice. It was there she knew about the island and took her to the island according to the king’s instruction, although she has never visited after she left her there, she relocated close to the place so she could get update about her from time to time “My poor baby, she must have suffered so much and I was not there by her side, what a bad mother am I” Shirley wailed as Lady Carolyn explained to her “You are lucky to be a mother of someone who is that powerful, they don’t come easily so be glad that you have given birth to a powerful child who has a mission to fulfil” Lady Carolyn said to her as she hugged her and comfort her “we will set to see her soon, don’t worry. You are a blessed mother” Convel said placing a hand on her shoulder to comfort her
