“You love fish so much, how come you don’t eat them these days?” the queen questioned

replied without looking up and the queen bent down to check her

her eyes before she paused and took a step back in fear

before covering her mouth and she looked at her in confusion

“How come you are so white? When did this start? Since when did you start to hate fish?” her mother yelled at her to her surprise and she stood up immediately, the matter was getting more intense

“Why don’t you talk in a language that I understand? I don’t get why you are yelling at me just because I said I don’t want to eat fish. I don’t want them, they smell so awful” She yelled back at her mother before a smack landed on her shoulder

“Do you even know the trouble you are in?” her mother whispered with a worried tone

“I’m asking you to tell me because I don’t know, why are you even whispering?” she lashed already exhausted with all the questioning

“You are pregnant you brat! How can this be possible? Who did you get pregnant for?” the queen revealed trying her possible best to lower her voice because she was getting so angry and perplexed at the same time but her daughter just stared at her before bursting into laughter which made her raise her brows in confusion

“Why are you laughing? Do you think this is funny?” her mother couldn’t suppress her anger again and yelled at her

“Because it is funny! Why would you just say that I am pregnant because my skin is pale and my eyes are white? How will I even get pregnant? It’s not like I have any man I am seeing” she lashed back at her mother but deep down her chest was thumping, she knew she has a man somewhere and they already slept together, there is a high possibility that what her mother was saying is true but she will not give her the upper hand, at least not now.

“Shut your mouth! Just shut your mouth right there! Do you take me for a fool? I am a woman and a mother. If you are sure that nothing is wrong with you then I will tell the physician to carry out the proper test so I can be sure, you wouldn’t run away from that right? Since you are so sure nothing is wrong” her mother stated

“Sure, you can tell him to come check me up if that’s what you want” she insisted before going under her blanket

“That’s what I want and he will come do that soon so be prepared” her mother remarked and went out of the room since she already faced the other side and stopped talking to her

As soon as she heard the door close, she jumped out of her bed and called unto Lady Carolyn who was coming back from the yard with Debra

“There is trouble” she announced and the lady who was used to her drama didn’t even bother to fidget or panic

“What’s happening this time? Did you get into some trouble with your mother?” Lady Carolyn asked calmly as she entered the room with Debra at her back

“How did you know that it was with my mom? Anyways forget about that for now, we have a serious issue to attend to” she replied pulling the lady with her to the bed

“I think my father will have my head one of these days” she began but she was only frustrating the poor old lady

“From what I know, your father loves caviar so why would he have your head?” Lady Carolyn countered

“That’s because I have committed something equivalent to treason” she replied biting into her lips

“I don’t think you are ready to talk now maybe when you are relaxed and ready to open up, you can send for me then because I have tons of work to attend to. We have to start picking the color and style of your engagement cloth” Lady Carolyn replied standing but Shirley pulled her back to the bed

“Engagement clothes you say? With who?” she asked opening her eyes wide

“I am pregnant and the worse thing is that my mom knows already, she already suspected it when she came to the room some minutes ago and said she will send the royal physician to come check up on me and confirm when I kept denying that it wasn’t true” she explained and the confused maids were left speechless at her revelation

“Okay! Wait a little bit!” Lady Carolyn said finally finding her voice

“According to what you are saying, it’s still an assumption that haven’t been confirmed by the physician right? If by chance it turns to be true, who is the man responsible for the said pregnancy?” Lady Carolyn asked trying to stay calm even in the situation that’s making her chest thump

“Who else would it be? I don’t have anyone except him” she replied shyly playing with her fingers but that was the last straw that broke the camel’s back for the lady who was trying to keep calm

“Wait, you can’t tell me that you are talking about that…. It can’t be him right?” Lady Carolyn asked springing up from the bed and Debra gasped

“Can you not shout?” she said trying to cover her mouth but the lady flung her hand away in anger

“I shouldn’t shout? In this absurd and weird situation? Can you even hear yourself? What will you tell people? Who will you introduce him as? Why did you allow this costly mistake to happen?” Lady Carolyn questioned one after the other

“I don’t know what to do honestly, can’t you give me suggestions?” Shirley asked biting into her fingers in fear

“Now first, since it’s still an assumptions, let’s try to confirm first before we can even know what to do for you” Lady Carolyn stated and the maid at the door announced that the royal physician is around

“He’s around! What do I do?” she asked holding unto the lady who is as confused as her

“You have to take the test first, there is nothing you can do” the lady stated firmly

“Send him in” Lady Carolyn shouted and the door opened to reveal the royal physician

All that was going through Shirley’s head was how the ground would open up and swallow her up immediately.
