Chapter 1

Crystal As my last class ended, I made my way down the hall to my locker. I was met by a pair of light hazel eyes and pearly white smile. Lucas, he stands at 5'11", dark brown hair, very lean but well built. You can't help but look at him when he passes by. Just as I was making my way I heard a thundering of movement behind me and I saw Lucas' smile falter. As I went to turn around I felt someone shove me from my side and a sharp pain on my back. I was lying on the floor in excruciating pain when someone from the group that was running stopped and looked at me. Jet black hair, chiseled jawline, he easily stood at 6'2", and very muscular. The last thing I remember before I fainted from the pain was a pair of piercing light blue eyes. I woke up looking at a white ceiling and cream colored curtains. I felt a little disoriented, but soon realized I was in the nurse's office. I went to roll over, but felt a searing pain on my back. My jacket was on the bed and my shirt was pulled up to my bra line, I could feel bandages on my back. I can hear people arguing just on the other side of the curtain. "Still playing these stupid games Mason? It’s your fault she got hurt again!" That was Lucas' voice, but who was Mason? "Calm down. What happened is in the past now. Besides she’s not my type" Was he talking about me? This hurt my ego, coming from a stranger. What type was I? What was his type? When I opened the curtain I was faced with those familiar piercing blue eyes. I watched as his eyes looked up and down my body. I was lost in thought, thinking about his comment that I forgot to pull my shirt from under my bra when I pulled back the curtain. “Damn” I whispered to myself. I pulled my shirt down with tears forming from the embarrassment. I ran out of the room heading for Lucas' car. "Crystal!" Lucas shouted. I didn't care. I didn’t know why it bothered me to hear a stranger say I wasn’t histype. I never cared what people said about me. Maybe it bothered me because he said it to Lucas, but he seemed familiar. I made my way to the car wiping a few tears that had fallen, when I missed the first step to the stairs leading outside. I braced myself for the fall but felt an arm around my waist. I was met with blue eyes that I was so desperately trying to get away from. “You okay?” I felt a lump in my throat as the tears threatened to fall, ‘She’s not my type’ kept repeating in my head. I pushed away and continued to make my way outside. Not wanting him to see that his words affected me. I heard his footsteps just behind me. “Mason!” I paused and looked behind me to see an angry Lucas yelling and walking towards us. I have rarely seen him like this, but it is scary when he gets to that point. “I was just seeing if she was okay” “You’re not her prince anymore Mason. Just forget about her again!” Prince? What was he talking about? I don’t know Mason or any of the Elites for that matter. I started to feel dizzy and began to sweat. “I never forgot her” He looked down and whispered this, but I heard him. Who were they talking about? Lucas looked furious walking towards Mason and shoving him. I did not realize how close Mason was to me till he stumbled back and knocked me into the car. I screamed as pain shot through my body when my back hit the window. I fell to my knees, wrapping my arms around myself. Lucas knelt down next to me. “She’s burning up”, his cool had on my forehead, “I need to get her home” “Annissa” was all I could say before my vision became blurry and I started to drift off into darkness. Mason I was hanging out in the commons of the school with my group of friends. The last class of the day for us is a free period. It has been years since I have been back in this part of town. Due to renovations being done at our school, we were told we would be sharing Benz Public for the first week while the renovation was being completed. Josh is my best friend, we met at the daycare in the hospital my family owns and have been close since. Ethan is the chairman’s son at Lutz and is the reason we were basically untouchable. Aiden and Andrew are twins. Sam transferred to our school in 6th grade. “I can’t wait for the party tomorrow” Ethan said while leaning back in his chair, feet on the table. “Especially since there are going to be some new faces,” Andrew said, elbowing playfully at Aiden. “Not their faces you’ve been paying attention to is it” Sam said winking at the twins. “Who’s ride are we…” Josh was interrupted by water falling on us from above. We looked up and saw my half brother Chase smirking with a mop bucket in his hands. We have never gotten along even after our father’s countless attempts to get us to bond. We were just complete opposites. I like sports, being outdoors and hanging out with friends. Chase was always quiet, read books and would hide behind his mom whenever we were supposed to see each other. We jumped up and ran after him. One thing I noticed over the years is that he has become incredibly fast. It had become more difficult to keep up with him. We were mowing through everything and everyone. Just as Aiden was about to catch him, Chase pushed some guy from Lutz and his back hit the sharp corner of a locker that was left open. I stopped to see if he was injured. I was responsible if Chase caused any more trouble in school. I was already on thin ice with my father since Chase caused the damage at the school, which is why it is being renovated. I almost lost my apprenticeship at the hospital because of his stunt. I saw the guys light gray eyes as they began to close. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed someone from Benz rushing over to the unconscious guy on the floor. When he looked at me, I couldn’t believe it was him. “Lucas?” “What did you do?” anger dripped from his voice. He picked up the unconscious student bridal style, and Lucas began sprinting. I followed and noticed that the Lutz student had incredibly long dark brown hair falling out of his jacket. When we entered the nurses office he found the nearest empty bed and laid him down. As his arms slid from the limp body he was holding I saw blood on his arms. “S**t!” He started to pull off the guy's jacket and rolled him onto his side, pulling his shirt up to reveal a giant gash. I grabbed some towels and peroxide off the counter to help clean off the blood. As my eyes looked up his back to find where the blood was coming from I saw Lucas tuck the shirt under… a bra strap!?! “Why is he wearing a bra?” Taking a step back. “He?” Lucas gave me a confused look “Surprised you haven’t figured it out” Snatching the towels out of my hand. Hidden beneath the suit was a small frame, curves in all the right places, snow white skin. Looked at the sleeping face, long curly lashes, light pink plump lips. I felt my heart tighten as it finally dawned on me. This he wasn’t a guy at all, but wasn’t just any girl either. “Crystal,” I whispered. She was completely different from the little kid I grew up with. She had always been cute, but now she was a gorgeous young woman. “What the hell did she hit?” “She fell on the corner of a locker” “Who pushed her?” “Chase” “You guys just don’t quit do you? Now look at what happened to her” “It wasn’t my fault” “I don’t care!” Wrapping up the wound, he covered her with the blanket and closed the curtain around her. “Why is she dressed in a Lutz suit?” “She got accepted” he crossed his arms and leaned against the counter. “But why is she wearing a male uniform?” “They gave it to her by mistake. Her new one will be here before Monday” “Why wouldn’t she just wait for her uniform? Why hide and pretend to be a boy?” Lucas rolled his eyes at me. “She wasn’t hiding anything. She just put her hair into a low ponytail and put the rest under her jacket” “Why?” “She worked her a** off to get into Lutz. A small thing like this wasn’t going to stop her from going. It’s only for a week and she’ll have her new uniform” I looked at the curtain. After getting a glimpse of her body I wished she would continue to wear the suit. The girl's uniform would show off her body perfectly. Just thinking about the other guys looking at her made me angry. A silence fell between us. What has she been doing all of these years? I know her grandma passed away. Where has she been living now? Who has been watching her? *Flashback* I remembered when we were younger and they used to come over when their grandma was our nanny. Our families actually used to be very close. Our parents were childhood friends and their grandma was a mother figure to all of them. We were always together and I don’t know why I always felt the need to protect her. Back then Chase and I would still fight. When I was 8 years old Crystal and I were playing on the stairs. She was Cinderella and lost her slipper and I was Prince Charming who was returning it to her. We were in our own little world when Chase and Lucas came down playing cops and robbers. Chase was the robber and pulled Crystal into a hug pretending to hold her hostage. “Stop Chase! Mason is playing princess with me” she said in her sweet little voice as she tried to get out of his arms. “I will be your prince once we make it out of here” he said smiling at her. “I don’t want you to be my prince. I have Mason. Besides princes are never the bad guys” “I can be a good guy for you” “Mason!” She reached her tiny hand out for me. I went to grab her hand, but Chase pulled her away. “Not today princess” kissing her on the cheek. This sent me over the edge. I jumped at him. We started to roll around on the stairs hitting each other. “Stop it!” Lucas and Crystal shouted at us. I felt a pair of hands on my shoulders, but Chase hit me causing me to roll into someone. It all happened so fast. I heard Crystal scream, but when I looked back she was at the bottom of the stairs. *End Flashback* I looked at the curtain. I could see her face through the small opening. She looked so peaceful. “Beautiful” “What?” “You heard me” I wasn’t going to deny what I said because it was true. She was f*****g gorgeous. “She’s not just one of your random groupies Mason! Leave her alone. She is going to find someone better than you” The thought of someone else with her made me furious and the fact that he was saying it made it worse. “What she chooses to do is none of your business. She can do whatever with whoever she wants” I winked at him knowing this would touch a nerve. "Still playing these stupid games Mason? It’s your fault she got hurt again!" It pained me to know what he was talking about, but my anger began to get the better of me. "Calm down. What happened is in the past now. Besides she’s not my type" As soon as these words left my mouth I regretted it.
