Chapter FiveThe next afternoon, Trevor stood in the morgue while Christopher hunched over the skeleton, white lab coat stretched taut across his shoulders. The cool, windowless room, tomblike, was located in the basement of the hospital. Stone walls rose from a floor made of cement. Stainless steel shelves and gurneys gleamed in the bright lights. A glittering array of knives, probes, saws, and other evil-looking instruments were lined up on the wheeled table at the doctor’s elbow. Trevor sniffed the sharp, chemical-scented air and cringed.
