The sun was just beginning to peep out over the horizon when Manella jumped out of her bed. She had only slept for a very short while finding herself going over and over again in her mind what she had to do. She dressed quickly, having the night before laid out the clothes she intended to put on. She had wrapped those she was taking with her in a light shawl. She had intended to take three of her simplest muslin gowns, which she hoped would not get too creased and would last her through the rest of the summer. For the time being she gave no thought to what would happen in the winter. Her riding habit was warm and would be all she wanted if it rained. She had two pairs of shoes that fitted into Heron’s saddle-pockets and a few other small articles that she knew she would need. She h
