I couldn’t help but feel in control when Noah let me pull him along down the beach. Noah made it clear that I was in charge, that he would do anything I needed him to do to make this work. And I wanted to make this work.
“The wolf that attacked me was definitely as tall as you.” I said after a long time of walking in silence. Noah looked down at me in surprise,
“Really?” He said.
“Kira was large, but she was eye level with me. I distinctly remember the wolf who attacked me hovering over me. I was triggered when Kira shifted and ran up to me, and I remembered that day more clearly than ever.” I told him.
“Do you remember what he looked like?” He asked me. The golden eyes of the wolf flashed in my mind.
“He was black with gold eyes.” I said,
“Do you think he was a werewolf?” I asked, looking up at him.
“I don’t imagine a regular wolf being that large.” He said, clearly lost in thought.
“Why would he come after me?” I asked. Noah looked down at me then,
“Why do you think it came after you?”
“I’ve never seen so much as a squirrel come into my backyard, then a gigantic dog breaks through my fence, attacks me, and runs off. What do you call that?” Noah smirked at me,
“Don’t laugh at me!” I glared at him.
“I’m not laughing at you love, you’re just so cute.” I rolled my eyes at Noah but couldn’t stop the small smile from creeping in.
“Everleigh,” Noah stopped walking and placed himself in front of me,
“If you don’t trust anything else, please trust that I will keep you safe from anyone and anything.” Noah’s eyes burned into mine and I couldn’t help but feel perfectly protected.
“I do trust you, Noah.” I whispered and the look on his face was enough to make my heart sing,
“You do?” He was so surprised.
“Yes, I do.” I assured him. Noah grinned and grabbed my hand again, continuing our walk.
“What made you want to meet Kira today?” Noah asked after some more comfortable silence.
“After yesterday, what I was feeling the most nervous about was the idea of a wolf living inside your head,” I looked over at him sheepishly,
“When Molly came over she asked if I wanted to meet her wolf and I thought it was a good place to start. I actually feel a lot better after talking to Kira.” I explained.
“I’m glad to hear that, but I really want you to be able to come to me with any concerns or questions that you have, Everleigh.” Noah urged me.
“I’m doing the best I can, Noah.” I sighed. He squeezed my hand,
“I know, love.”
“Why do you call me Everleigh?” I asked him.
“Because everyone else calls you Evie.” I blushed at Noah’s response,
“Is that alright?” He asked. I nodded, nibbling at my bottom lip. I jumped when Noah growled and spun me around to face him.
“We need to talk about this,” He purred. Grazing my bottom lip with his thumb,
“You’re testing my control, little mate.” I pushed out my lip in a pout.
“I’m not little.” I argued.
“You’re a shrimp.” Noah mocked me and I let him.
“Size isn’t everything.” I smirked at him and watched as the lust swirled in his eyes. Just then, my phone started ringing. I backed away from Noah’s touch,
“Saved by the bell.” I giggled, pulling out my phone. Noah groaned dramatically as I answered the phone.
“What’s up, Elijah?” I answered with a little giggle left in my voice.
“What are you doing?” Elijah asked accusingly.
“None of your business.” I snapped back.
“Sassy sister.” Elijah laughed.
I turned back to Noah, but not before narrowing my eyes at him and his intense expression as he watched me.
“What’s up, Eli?” I asked again.
“Just checking in. I felt some weird vibes earlier today.” I groaned internally.
Elijah must have felt my fear from facing Kira. As twins, we had a very close connection. Almost similar to the mate bond connection Noah talks about.
“I’m good.” I lied.
“You’re such a liar.” Elijah called me out.
“Seriously, Elijah, I’m fine.” I said again.
“Let me talk to her.” I hear my older brother Isaac’s voice in the background. There was a loud static sound and then Issac was on the phone,
“What’s going on? Do I need to come over there?”
“Isaac….” I groaned loudly.
Elijah was my mirror self. He was the social butterfly to my loner status. He knew me better than anyone else. Isaac, who was only two years older than us, was the protector. No one screwed with him and, in turn, no one screwed with Elijah or I. My oldest brother, Becks, was 30 and the wise old owl. He gave the best advice and had the most level head.
I hated every minute of being their baby sister, but I was beyond lucky to have them as my big brothers.
“I’m just adjusting, seriously, nothing’s wrong.” Noah was pacing the beach, clearly getting anxious. I wasn’t sure what part of the mate bond was setting him off now, but all I wanted to do was comfort him.
“You call me if you need anything.” Isaac demands.
“Obviously.” I laughed.
