In Richmond, Vic checked his phone every time he pulled up to a bus stop. No calls from Matty. When he dialed his lover’s number again, the phone just rang and rang in his ear. A half hour had passed since Vic left a message—Matt might be napping, but he wasn’t really one for zonking out in the middle of the day. Sometimes Vic came home from work to find Matt snoozing, but that was at nine or ten at night, not one in the afternoon. As he sat waiting out his time at another bus stop, he scrolled through the contacts on his phone, wondering who else he might try calling to check up on his lover.
