Noel nervously looked around the room as he waited for Bluebeard to come back with fresh clothes. The room looked both deary and elegant at the same time. The long drapes that covered some parts of the walls somehow creeped Noel but he decided to focus on the paintings hanged on parts of hall which were not covered in drapes.
After Noel introduced himself to Bluebeard, he was forced to go with him and change into a fresh set of clothes since he had spoiled his clothes after falling down.
Noel groaned in embarrassment at the memory of him falling down the carriage. He let himself fall on the soft bed, he was made to sit and looked up at the painted ceiling trying to forget the embarrassing thought.
He was already in so much pain from the whipping he got yesterday. He waldo nervous about the mission, since, he was going to be working close with a serial killer, who killed his own wives and used an ancient family curse as an excuse.
Noel head someone open the door and followed by an apology.
"I am sorry for making you wait," Bluebeard's voice filled in the empty room.
Noel sat upright quickly and gave Bluebeard a small smile.
"I should be the one saying sorry, my lord," Noel said, "I gave you so much trouble," he said and got up from the bed.
Bluebeard shook a hand in the air trying to dismiss Noel's words. Noel noticed the golden wedding ring reflecting in the light.
He is still married. Is he going to kill his current wife too?
"I assure you it's no trouble." Bluebeard smiled and gave him the clothes, "I hope the clothes are of your size."
Noel took the clothes and looked at Bluebeard expecting him to leave. However, Bluebeard just gave him a mischievous smile and sat on the olive green couch by the fire place.
Realising that Bluebeard had no intention of leaving, Noel slowly walked to the other side of the bed and started unbuttoning his shirt.
Bluebeard bit into his lips as his eyes traveled to and fro from Noel's back and his own shoes.
Edward Bluebeard had an obsession with beautiful things and people. He had the finest collection of paintings, sculptures and jewels. And all of the wives he previously married were known to be one of the most beautiful women in the kingdom.
The moment Bluebeard saw Noel through his carriage window, he just knew he had to contain that beauty.
Bluebeard looked back at Noel and admired him. Those golden locks of hair were curly and hardly sat in place. He remembered how he was sucked out of breath the moment he looked in those bottled green eyes that were filled with so much innocence it almost made him laugh. But their beauty were impeccable.
And his skin so soft looking—
Bluebeard frowned and pushed himself from the arm chair and stride towards Noel.
Noel looked back at when he heard footsteps coming towards him and was surprised how quickly Bluebeard was approaching him, that he froze half way from taking off his shirt.
The two of them stared at each other and Noel felt his neck strain because of his short height.
"My-my lord?" He stammered.
Bluebeard said nothing as he held Noel's arm and turned him around. He frowned at the fresh whiplash wound overlapping other old wounds.
He slowly placed the tip of his finger on the fresh wound and Noel let out a soft whimper.
"Who did this to you?" Bluebeard slowly asked, surprised by the calmness of his own voice.
Noel just shook his head. Even though he would very much like to tell the world how Alistair James treated his own son but Noel knew he shouldn't stitch on his father not like this. He was the only one from the three siblings getting the beating, no one would believe him.
"I will get some ointment to apply on it, please wait for me," Bluebeard softly said and walked towards the vanity.
Bluebeard had heard rumours of the James family. He had known how the head of the James family was cruel and treated his own child like puppets for his business ventures. He smiled in a sardonic way to himself.
The James and the Bluebeard were no different.
Maybe that was what messed Edward up from inside. The sight of his mother's mutilated body when he came back from his boarding school had unleashed something inside him.
The way his father blamed the ancient curse casted open their family as the excuse of his wife's death, made him so fascinated with collecting beautiful items and people and ruining them slowly in the most horrific way.
Edward Bluebeard became a monster as he killed his beautiful wives for fun and mutilate their death bodies.
Bluebeard shook away the thoughts from his mind and walked back to Noel. He instructed him to sit on the bed. He sat next to Noel and began to apply the ointment.
The silence in the room thicken as none of them tried to spark up a conversation.
Bluebeard scooped the ointment and lightly applied it over the whip mark. He retreated his hand everytime Noel shuddered at his touch.
He helped Noel get dressed and when they were about to walk out of the room, the bedroom door opened and revealed a surprised looking woman.
She must be the sixth wife, Noel thought.
The woman had a petite hourglass figure. Her mahogany hair was tired into an elegant bun and her small face was framed by the two opal earrings.
She stretched her red lips into a smile.
"Dear husband, everyone is looking for you," she said, as she crutized to Noel.
Noel lightly bowed back and looked at Bluebeard who gave his wife a nod.
"Elizabeth dear, he is one of the guest, Mr.Noel James."
Elizabeth smiled at Noel, "It is nice to meet you Mr.James."
"The honour is all mine." Noel smiled back.
"Very well, we should head to the ball than, shall we Mr.James?" Bluebeard looked at Noel.
"O-of course, my lord," Noel shuttered.
He bowed to Elizabeth again.
As Noel and Bluebeard walked down the hallway. Noel looked back at Elizabeth. She politely smiled at him. Noel smiled back at her.
However, Noel couldn't help be worried for her. After all, she had married a sadist who enjoyed killing his wives.
