An Angel

Noel's eyes stirred behind his eye lids as he slowly woke up. He rubbed his eyes and opened them. He hissed lightly when he felt a sharp pain on his forehead. He lightly felt his forehead, it was bandgaed. The sun light illuminating the room caught Noel's attention, he looked around the room. This time instead of a dark room, he was in a fairly bright room. The room was decorated in royal blue drapes. Old paintings hanged on the walls and it had a fireplace right infront of his bed.  Noel looked around and from the corner of his eyes, he saw a figure at the side of the bed. Noel looked and it was Stephen who was sleeping with his arms over his head. "Dragon Prince," Noel whispered. "I am not a prince," Stephen's voice filled the room. Noel bit the inside of his cheeks, feeling quite stupid he said that loud enough for Stephen to hear. Noel glanced at Stephen through his lashes. Noel saw Stephen smiling at him. "I am just a dragon." Noel scoffed, "I do not think, "just a dragon" is something ordinary." Stephen just laughed. His golden eyes shining with a happy look. "Let's go and have breakfast," he said, with a charming smile. Only when Stephen mentioned breakfast, did Noel realised he hadn't had anything since he got kidnapped. "Did I slept through the night?" Noel asked. He got of the bed and realised he was wearing a silk pajama too big for him.  "Yes," Stephen answered as opened the chamber doors. Noel followed behind, Stephen. He was led to a garden. In the middle of the garden there stood a long white stone table. The legs of the table had vines wrapped around. The table must have been there for ages as there were random patches of green around it. Despite the wilderness around, the table still managed to look beautiful. "We can eat here under the stars when we have dinner here!" Noel gushed as he sat on the chair. He looked at the table and back at Stephen who sat next to him. "Did you prepared the breakfast?" Noel asked. He looked at the food at the table. There were normal breakfast he had in the castle. "Yes," Stephen answered, "Is it to your liking?" "I am not a picky eater," Noel assured Stephen. He just asked the question because he was curious from where they came. Stephen did not looked like the type to cook and he haven't seen any castle workers around. Stephen reached for the teapot and poured Noel tea. "I ca—can do it by myself," Noel said. Stephen smiled. "I doubt that, Prince Noel, when we had breakfast together, all your maids did the work for you while you talked with Lloyd." "Well, Prince Lloyd has many interesting stories, to say," Noel defended. Stephen raised his eyebrows, "What kind of stories, do tell me." Noel shrugged, " He tells me his adventures when he goes to war or fights mythical creatures." Stephen nodded. "The stories sound fascinating," Stephen said, as he poured himself a cup of tea, "Well, when I was just a baby, I somehow ended up in a human's house in my dragon form and slept the rest of the winter season there." "And the human did not harmed you?" Noel asked, his eyes widened in excitement. "She did not. In fact, I visit her at the start of every winter." Stephen said. "What happened when you woke up in spring?" Noel asked. "I found myself wrapped up in a small basket." Just like that, they both ate their breakfast and talked.                                   *** "Are there no castle workers around?" Noel asked as they walked side by side. Their footsteps echoing loudly in the empty castle. "There are." Stephen answered, "But they come only in the night." Noel gave Stephen a funny look. "Are they magical like you?" Stephen lightly chuckled, "You think I am magical?" "Dear sire, you are a dragon who can shape shift into a man, you are magical!" Noel said. Stephen accepted Noel's point and answered his question. "Yes they are magical, they are fairies gifted to me by my father." Stephen answered. "Fairies?!" Noel said, and stopped walking. Stephen stopped to look at him but Noel jumped and held Stephen's hands and gushed. "Can I meet them? It would be like a dream! Oh, I have always loved listening to stories about fairies! To meet them would be so much fantastic!" Stephen smiled at Noel's energetic ramblings and just nodded his head which made Noel cheer even more loudly.  However, the excitement was too much to hold, and the strong emotions kicked Noel's narcolepsy and he was immediately knocked asleep. This time Noel did not fell on the floor since he was holding Stephen's hand, and Stephen was also holding Noel's hand. "Huh," Stephen said, as he pulled Noel towards his chest. He lifted the hand he was holding and smiled. "Your hands are so small."                                  *** "How long have you been living here?" Noel asked as he reached out for the heavy looking leather bound book from a shelf. It had almost been a month and Noel was getting used to the life here in the ruined castle with Stephen. It was nicer than the castle life, somehow. Since they nothing to do for the day, both Noel and Stephen, decided to explored  the castle. And they stumbled open the library. All the books were in good condition but Noel insisted they clean the place. They spent their afternoon in the library dusting and arranging books. "It has almost been seven hundred years," Stephen easily answered. Noel settled a stack of book on the long dark table made out of oak with a loud thud and gave Stephen a surprised look.   "How long do dragons live?" Noel asked. "Forever if we are not hunted."  Noel looked down at his brown shoes, realising where this conversation is leading them to. "Did my kingdom—" "I heard you complaining about dragon hunting," Stephen interupted him. He turned to look at Noel in the eye, his golden eyes shining with an odd admiration, "I heard how you think it's cruel to hunt dragons, who don't even enter civilizations." Noel looked away, his heart skipped a beat, from the way Stephen was looking at him. "I-I just said what I think is right." Noel mumbled as he opened a book on random and pretended to go through it. Stephen smiled. "Dear Prince, your moral compass is facing the right direction." Stephen said, he climbed the ladder and started taking books out from it. "Of course, it is!" Noel said, "Isn't that what everyone should have?" Stephen looked down at Noel who was straining his neck and looking at Stephen.  "Not everyone have a right moral compass, Prince Noel," Stephen said and turned back to the shelf. He stacked around seven books in his hand and got down the ladder. He settled the book on a table and smiled at Noel. "And you are really special to have it." Noel blushed and looked away. "I do not think I am—" Noel never finished his words and fell on the floor limply. Stephen let out a string of curses words as he held Noel's limp body in his arms. "I really need to prepare my reflex for the Sleeping Prince's medical condition." Stephen muttered to himself. He picked Noel in his arms. He settled Noel on the olive green couch in the library next to a fire place. Stephen brushed away Noel's soft curls from his forehead. Noel looked like an angel deep in sleep.  "You could look just like angel if I fly with you in the sky." Stephen whispered to Noel.  As Stephen watched a sleeping Noel with a tender look in his face, he got an idea. Stephen decided to surprise Noel with a  clean the library.
